Control Valve Sizing Useful facts about control valves shall be discussed.

ISA–75.01.01 (Flow equations for sizing control valves) document shall be reviewed.

A master spreadsheet template shall be provided for calculations.

A reference VBA enabled calculation file shall be provided to the students.

Students shall prepare their own spreadsheet to solve examples.

Pressure Safety Valve Sizing Useful facts about PRV shall be discussed.

API 520 Part 1, API 526 and API 521 shall be reviewed.




Session 3

(Saturday)

Line sizing

Pump sizing

Separator sizing

Useful facts about Line sizing, Pump sizing and Separator sizing shall be discussed.

API 14E and API 12J shall be reviewed.






Session 4

(Sunday)

Orifice sizing Useful facts about Orifice sizing shall be discussed.

ISO 5167-2 (Orifice plates) shall be reviewed.

HYSYS.

Students shall solve carry out Line sizing, Pump sizing, Separator sizing and Orifice sizing and

Orifice sizing using Aspen HYSYS.

Heat exchanger sizing using EDR

Distillation column sizing using Aspen HYSYS

Depressuring utility using Aspen HYSYS

Flare system design using Aspen Flare System

Analyzer.

Students shall solve Heat exchanger sizing problem using EDR.

Students shall solve Distillation column sizing problem using Aspen HYSYS.

Students shall solve Depressuring utility problem using Aspen HYSYS.

Students shall solve Flare system design problem using Aspen Flare System Analyzer.

Aspen HYSYS Dynamics

Process Plant Design Project

Students shall solve Aspen HYSYS Dynamics problem.

Students shall carry out Aspen HYSYS simulation of a real project (industry problem).

Session 8

(Saturday)

Process Plant Design Project Students shall carry out process calculations for the same project using their own

spreadsheets prepared earlier in the course.

Session 9

(Sunday)

Process Plant Design Project

Students shall prepare PFD and P&ID (from the scratch) for the same project.

Students shall be taught about how to prepare typical Process documents (PDB, OCP, Line

List, PDS, Simulation report etc.).

Course concludes after the pizza party.
