Volunteer Newsletter Rolling Hills - August 2020 Hello Volunteers, Here at Rolling Hills, we are continuing to restrict visitors for the health and safety of our residents. Due to this, we are not able to host an in-person Volunteer Appreciation this year. Instead, I am planning a drive-by volunteer appreciation. Please see the enclosed invitation for details. Jessica Byom, CTRS Assistant Recreation Director & Volunteer Coordinator 269-8804 [email protected] https://rollinghillsseniorliving.org Ongoing Volunteer Training: Hand Hygiene When to Clean Your Hands: Upon entering a residents room; After using the restroom, coughing, sneezing, blowing your nose, eating, using tobacco or drink- ing; After engaging in other activities that contaminate the hands (wiping coun- ters/tables, picking up dropped items, etc); After caring for/handling animals; After touching a sick or injured person AND WASH YOUR HANDS WHENEVER THEY LOOK DIRTY! 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene Before Patient Contact, Before an Aseptic Task, After Body Fluid Exposure Risk, After Patient Contact, After Contact with Patient Surroundings To properly wash your hands, follow these simple steps: Wet your hands with warm water and apply soap. Rub your hands together vigorous- ly to create a lather. Scrub all surfaces of your hands, including the back of your hands, wrists, and between fingers and un- der fingernails. Keep fingernails trimmed and short. Continue for at least 20 seconds. Rinse your hands well and dry them with a clean paper towel, dispose of paper towel. When to Clean Your Hands:

Recipe Corner

Corn Salad

4 cups fresh or frozen corn, defrosted

1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese

1/4 red onion, finely chopped 1/4 cup basil, thinly sliced

3 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil Juice of 1 lime

Salt and pepper

Toss all ingredients together in a large bowl, then season with

salt and pepper.

August Fun Facts August is named after Augustus Caesar,

founder and first emperor of the Roman Empire.
