What do you remember most? How did UK impact your life? Hashtag your post #OneDayforUK. • Use a meme to enhance your message or create a video – it can be a testimonial or an instructional video showing how donors can make a gift.• Notify your friends via word of mouth, text, email or direct messaging• Follow #OneDayforUK and repost others’ messages.• On April 17, share our progress and generate buzz on your account, keeping the momentum going.• Like, share and comment on the university’s #OneDayforUK messages.

#ONEDAYFORUKONE DAY FOR UK FACTS TO KNOW

• One Day for UK is a 24-hour day of giving where alumni, friends and fans like you can show your UK love. Support your favorite college, unit or cause or help promote the day through social media.

• In our first year for One Day for UK, our goal is to raise awareness about the many ways people can support the university. We want as many people as possible to show their UK pride through their posts, activity and giving.

• Social media campaigns like this are common among universities and nonprofits. It is a chance to designate one day to focus on promoting UK.

• Donors can support one or more areas of the university, including their favorite college, department, program or cause. We want them to feel connected to the area they support.

• All colleges and units have designated funds they are promoting as part of One Day for UK. Some also have matching gifts to enhance donor support.

• All gifts are made through https://www.onedayforuk.uky.edu/. The site has a tracker that shows the countdown clock for the 24 hours of giving. It has a list of funds and challenges and a feed showing social media posts hashtagged #OneDayforUK. That site will not be live and able to accept donations until April 17.

• People can make a gift before April 17 at https://uky.networkforgood.com/. Once they complete the gift information, donors can check a box to have their gift applied to the overall One Day for UK total.

#ONEDAYFORUKFAQS

How should I communicate?Spread the word any way you can! Email your family, friends and classmates from your personal email address, send them text messages or go old school – call them on the phone. The main focus of the giving day is social media. Post from your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts about the day of giving.

How often should I post?We suggest that you post at least once a week from March 19 to April 16 leading up to the campaign. It gives you a chance to explain the campaign and tell people how they can support One Day for UK. On April 17, the day of giving, we suggest you post at least two times to tell your story and generate support. On April 18, we suggest that you post at least one thank you message from the university that includes our giving day totals. But, we encourage you to post as often as you like. The more messages, the merrier. Everything you do will help us raise awareness and promote school spirit.

What should I post?We have laid out a few ideas in this toolkit.

• Explain the day of giving: One Day for UK is a 24-hour campaign to raise money and support for the University of Kentucky. It is a chance to connect with alumni, friends and fans to share our mutual love of UK and how the university has shaped our lives. Together, we can show the world what Kentucky can do!• Share your story: Post pictures of your time at UK. Tell why you support and love UK. Explain how UK has helped you personally and professionally. Talk about the programs, organizations and professors you love at UK that have shaped your life.• Challenge your friends: Encourage people to give to your favorite college, department, program or cause and describe why private support is vital to its success. Discuss what additional support can do and how it provides new opportunities to students, researchers, patients or the communities we serve.• Get creative: Tell us why you support UK or how it has impacted your life. Some people have posted videos in the past, created slideshows, found appropriate memes or explained how scholarship support enabled them to attend UK. You know what will resonate with your social media audience. Find the best way to capture their attention and motivate them to give.

When should I use the #OneDayforUK hashtag? All of the time! Whenever you post something related to One Day for UK, hashtag it #OneDayforUK. Follow the hashtag on social media and repost university and other ambassadors’ posts to maximize the publicity and reach new audiences. Also, feel free to tag the University of Kentucky and University of Kentucky Philanthropy in your posts.
