We have been treating each client as a unique, one of a kind individual since 1946. Our founder, Vilas Schertz, began making cases and cabinetry for his friends as a way to help them create more than just a kitchen. He helped them create a safe harbor to keep their families together, and provided a foundation to turn mere houses into happy homes.
This “One of a Kind” approach is instilled deeply into the heart and soul of Grabill Cabinets. It’s why, as company owners, we nurture one of a kind relationships with our dealers. This enables our dealers to in turn be a one of a kind resource to homeowners, interior designers and other industry professionals.
On behalf of our entire team, thank you for exploring Grabill Cabinets.

Much of the cabinet frame remains visible with doors and drawers covering 1/2 inch.
Small gapping between cabinet doors and drawers conceals the cabinet frame from view.

We’re proud to say the relationships we have with our craftsmen, our dealers, our community, and the home owners who enjoy the fruit of our labor, span multiple generations. A long-term view is second nature to us. Consequently, we take great steps to ensure everything we do is the highest quality possible.
For instance, our 170,000 sq. ft. facility includes a lumber division and every operation that is necessary to produce the highest quality cabinetry, architectural elements and fine furniture available. This ensures total control over the product, fuels innovation, allows us to offer the shortest lead time in the industry for custom products, connects designers with craftsmen, and develops the next generation to continue our trade. Each of our 34 most tenured craftsmen average 34 years of experience.

Your style and taste should never be sacrificed or altered due to poor workmanship, cracking, warping or separation.
We take it personally; literally...
We hand sort our lumber for color, stability and grain features for uniformity, so we can navigate around defects.
We hand sand and edge break all surfaces to open up the grain for maximum adhesion of stains, paints and finishes.
We hand sand all dovetail drawer joinery after assembly for a perfect fit.
Customized joinery equipment provides repeatable precision.
Mortise and tenon joinery and finger jointed mitered corners are strengthened with 3/8” dia. x 1-3/4” hardwood dowels so that corners don’t separate with changes in temperature and humidity.
We use plywood for all cabinet boxes as a standard.
3/4” maple drawer boxes for stability and strength.
3/8” plywood drawer bottoms.

A Grabill finish looks as good in 30 years as it did on the day of delivery. It takes seven types of sanding, topped with coatings so high tech they turn woodworking into chemistry.
The value: Unparalleled durability to withstand a lifetime of wear
Ultra smooth finish
Personalized products with predictable character that transcends generations
Consistent color, grain and texture within a species with uniformity as the goal
What it takes to achieve this: Only use Northern Appalachian hardwoods
Hand selected raw lumber for each job based on color
Zoned temperature and humidity controlled facility
Conversion varnish not lacquer
Process controlled drying chambers
Master craftsman skills
Research & development laboratory
Proper sanding and surface preparation
Optional hand rubbing after finishing to remove debris, provide a uniform sheen and protect against scuffing and scratching
VeneersThese pressure formed doors feature a 3/4” thick MDF core, eco-friendly reconstituted veneers, and Grabill’s renown natural clear top coat.
Acrylic High GlossThis sleek, flat laminated and edge-banded door offers a mirror-like sheen and Euro-chic appeal in a wide variety of finishes. The backs of these doors will typically blend with the exterior.

Grabill has pursued environmentally-friendly practices for generations. We received the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association’s Environmental Stewardship Program certification. As part of the certification, we met requirements in areas of air quality, product and process resource management, environmental stewardship and community relations. For example:
Unfinished lumber by-products provide a fuel source for heating homes in the local community.
Recycling sawdust so local farmers can use it for livestock bedding.
Our suppliers maintain certifications, including Environmental Stewardship program from KCMA (Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association), Forestry Stewardship Council and Rainforest Alliance certification. They also support the Sustainable Forest initiative.
The plywood cores that make up our cabinet case adhere to strict formaldehyde emissions standards as established by the Environmental Stewardship Council. On request, we'll procure material from Columbia Forest Products made with PureBond technology, to guarantee components and panels are assembled with no added urea formaldehyde adhesives.
