Worthy Brother Knights, Vivat Jesus,
Calling all Knights! Our August Membership Meeting will be moved from the normal third Tuesday to Friday, August 21st at 7pm. I am calling this the “New Grand Knight Inaugural Event” to bring the Monaghan Knights together in Unity and Fraternity. This is a general meeting that will include information on all of our events for the fraternal year (July to June), and allow you to update your contact information so we can keep you informed of events at your Council. I am also inviting wives and friends to this event. While we are in our meeting, they will be warmly welcomed and share hors de’oeuvres with our sister organization the Donne Gals. After the meeting we will all come together for food and fun. As your Grand Knight I ask that you make the effort to attend and feel the pride that comes with being a Knight of Columbus.
July was a great start to the fraternal year, and I would like to thank some people for a couple of very successful events. It started with the annual
boat cruise on the Detroit River. Three sold out buses of Knights, family and friends arrived for a perfect night. Thank you to Joe Kronk for organizing this event and the many others that pitched in to make this event a success.
July was also our Monaghan Golf Outing to support the Miracle League. Our numbers substantially increased from last year with 84 golfers and 41 hole sponsors. Mark your calendar and schedule your day off to participate in the outing next year, always the third Thursday in July. A huge thanks to Sam Aldridge and the golf committee. They put in a lot of hours, cooked a great steak dinner and ordered perfect weather. They really nailed this event!
If you know of a Catholic gentleman that would like to join the Knights of Columbus, Monaghan Council will be hosting a First Degree on Wednesday, August 19th at 7pm. I can help coordinate their induction, just contact me at 734-751-9513.
I have been working with our newly appointed Director of Communications, Michael Ware, to keep our website up to date with current events. Here are some things to look for in September. Dave DiPonio is working on a tour of the Model T Museum and lunch at Mr. Z’s in midtown on September 11th, more details to follow.
On September 13th, Kevin Rogers will be hosting the 5th Annual John Rogers Memorial Father Son golf outing and this event sells out quickly. This is a 9 hole scramble with steak dinner at the Council afterwards for $50 per golfer. Hole sponsors are also available at $25. If you are interested in supporting this event, contact Kevin at [email protected].
Our annual Monaghan Council Picnic will be held on Sunday, September 20th. This is fun for the whole family with food, fun and games. Thank you to the Council softball team for hosting this event. Look for more details to be updated on the Monaghan Council website, www.monghankofc.org.

How Would You Feel?
Hundreds of SE Michigan people donate blood every day. On certain days, Dan, and Pat and Dan Joe of our Monaghan Council join in.
So far, there hasn’t been a major problem in in our local hospitals, doctors offices, or EMS vehicles, with running out of blood, and having someone die!!!But, it could happen, if enough people say “It’s not my job”.
How would you feel, if you didn’t donate a unit of blood, and you find out that 3 days later, someone in your area does die, because the blood bank Ran Out Of Blood?
