Dear PwC Colleagues,During One Firm One Day you can have some fun in the office, compete against colleagues and raise funds for young people by hosting a UK Youth Quiz. We have made running a quiz for UK Youth as easy as possible by creating this kit containing everything you need.

The quiz kit contains; instructions, questions, answer sheets and inspiring stories of UK Youth’s impact to share with your quiz participants…nibbles not included! NB The quiz answers are on pages 11 and 13 of this kit – don’t read these if you are not the quiz host!

You can run the quiz in whatever way you want. It can be run with individuals or teams competing against one another, or even virtually if not everyone you work with is in the same office.

We suggest each quiz participant makes a minimum £10 donation to UK Youth, donations can be paid online here (select “Just one donation”).

All funds raised through the quiz will support PwC’s social mobility charity partner UK Youth. We are a leading national charity committed to ensuring all young people are empowered to build bright futures, regardless of their background or circumstances. We sit at the heart of a national network of 3,536 youth organisations and support 1.5 million young people. Together with our network, we offer support, advice and training to equip young people with the vital life skills needed to engage in education, volunteering and employment.

We can only continue this vital work with the help of supporters like you. So…recruit some colleagues, book a room, choose a host and you are ready to go!

If you have any questions about the quiz or UK Youth please contact us at [email protected] or call 020 3137 3810.

Thank you for helping to build bright futures for young people.

• Promoting the quizTo promote the quiz, send an email out to your colleagues, pin the ‘sign up’ poster in communal areas of your office and advertise the quiz on your team intranet page. Include important information such as the date, time and location of your quiz.

• The more the merrier, take it virtual You’re fundraising so try to encourage as many people as possible to take part. It can be run with individuals or teams competing against one another, or even virtually if not everyone you work with is in the same office.

• Four round quizThe quiz is divided across four rounds, as well as an optional picture round, so it shouldn’t take longer than an hour lunch break to complete.

• Minimum donations and team sizeWe suggest setting quiz entry at a minimum £10 donation per person and have a maximum of six people per team.

•Team namesGet your quiz participants excited by asking them to think of an inventive team name. Points can be awarded for the best one!

•Pick a hostDecide who the host will be, who will tally points, how many rounds you will play and what questions you want to use. We’ve provided some questions for you but feel free to use your own. We do however suggest keeping the UK Youth related ones in as it’s a fun way to introduce your colleagues to the charity.

• Finding prizesLooking to include a great prize? We suggest reaching out to local businesses, explaining that you’re running a fundraising quiz and asking if they would be interested in donating a prize.

• Send our remindersSend out a reminder communication to participants the day before the quiz with the main event details.

Page 4: One Firm One Day - UK Youth · During One Firm One Day you can have some fun in the office, compete against colleagues and raise funds for young people by hosting a UK Youth Quiz

• Kick off the quiz with a warm welcome and short introduction about UK Youth. Collect everyone’s £10 donation before the questions start*. Make sure you set the rules from the beginning. This might include no mobiles and that the host’s answer is final.

• It’s entirely up to you how you run the quiz but here’s a suggested format:

Round 1 & 2 QuestionsRound 1 & 2 Answers

Picture RoundRound 3 & 4 QuestionsRound 3 & 4 Answers

Award Ceremony

• Also included are three stories about UK Youth’s work related to the UK Youth questions. Print them out for each team and ask participants to have a look when you come to the relevant question. This will really help to bring UK Youth’s work to life.

*Donating to UK Youth…

Finally, once you’ve crowned the quiz champion(s), visit www.ukyouth.org/donate to pay in the overall funds you have raised.

Don’t forget to share highlights from your UK Youth Quiz on twitter tagging @UKYouth #OFOD and also send any pictures to [email protected] and we’ll share these across UK Youth’s

MEET MICHAEL...Read these stories to inspire you about UK Youth’s work and help you with the special UK Youth quiz questions!

Michael, 23, is from the North West of England and has low confidence and mental health problems and

has been unemployed for several years. Reach Up is a programme supporting young people not in education,

employment or training (NEET) to improve their confidence and employability skills. Through taking

part in an in-depth programme of workshops, practical and real-life work experiences and mock interviews,

Michael has built his confidence, established a regular routine and now feels much better prepared to find

a job. In Michael’s words, “Reach Up was something different to other courses I’ve done before. It’s not just classroom based, it’s practical and that’s what has built

my confidence”.

MEET GEMMA...

Gemma is 18 years old and lives in sheltered accommodation in Blackburn. Until recently Gemma really struggled managing her day to day budget. This was a huge worry to her as she would soon be moving out of her sheltered

accommodation and living independently, and she wasn’t sure how she would financially cope.

Through her local youth organisation Gemma found out about and participated in UK Youth’s programme Money for Life programme which equips 16-25 year

olds across the UK with the knowledge, life skills and resources needed to manage their money.

The Money for Life programme taught Gemma a lot of things that she says “really should be done in schools”. The programme helped Gemma understand,

and prepare for, what she will need to pay for when she lives independently, how to shop around for the best deals, how to manage a household budget and

crucially ensure she has enough money to last between pay days.

Gemma is now feeling more confident about living independently and next year she is hoping to go to university. Gemma would recommend this programme to

all of the young people who live in her local community.

MEET YACOUBA...

At 16 Yacouba arrived alone to the UK as an asylum seeker. His parents, who were political activists in the Ivory Coast, were murdered and Yacouba was left alone,

unable to communicate in English, homeless, with no money, no job, no friends and no family.

Isolated and frightened, Yacouba went into foster care and tried to acclimatise to his new environment. His foster family supported Yacouba, providing emotional support and stability, and encouraged to him to get involved with his local youth

organisation, Safe In Tees Valley.

Safe In Tees Valley introduced Yacouba to UK Youth’s digital skills programme supported by Microsoft. Through this programme, UK Youth and Microsoft created

digital spaces with high-tech equipment in local youth organisations across the country. By taking part in the programme, Yacouba had the opportunity to develop

his IT skills and inspire other young people as an IT Champion.

Yacouba felt empowered to give back to his local community; running workshops for young people on online safety, careers and CV building. He also developed his

leadership skills by running a programme in a local care home, where he taught elderly residents how to set up email and skype accounts to help them keep in touch with their relatives. This opportunity enabled Yacouba to learn how to communicate

with different people and make connections across communities.

Yacouba is currently finishing the final year of a degree in Information Computer Technology.
