Once there was a dream, the same dream by both Blackwood (Woods) Netball Club
and the Panthers Netball Club….their dream to join the State League Competition….
In 1997 Blackwood
District Netball Club
took the bold step and asked the question of
SANA….
“What was the criteria
to join the State
League Competition?”
This document did not
exist. SANA in turn produced a criteria of
what was required as a
club to join the State
League Competition.
During the 1999 season a
phone call from Secretary
Brian Anderson of the Panthers Netball Club to Jean
Morgan then secretary of the
Blackwood Netball Club,
started the ball rolling.
A Combined committee of
both clubs was formed and an
agreement was made to
create The Woods Panthers Netball Club
The AIS joined the State
League competition for
season 2000, leaving the possibility of a sport
being open in the State
League Reserves.
Woods Panthers took
this opportunity to present their case.
Inaugural President Julie
Langham, and Vice
President David Adams
presented to the State
League committee
Woods Panthers charter to join the State League
Competition.
In 2000 the letter we had
all been working toward
arrived … acceptance of Woods Panthers into the
State League Reserves
Competition.
Our inaugural team
coached by Barry
Seaman took to the court
and presented a
competitive unit. Finishing 7th then 3rd in
our first two years.
When the AIS left the competition again we jumped on the opportunity to join the big league.
The offer was
made and in
2002 we competed in the
State League
Competition
proper.
Our first season saw us
with 9 wins, the most
wins by a club in their inaugural season. Over
the years we have
steadily climbed the
ladder 6th, 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th,
4th, 5th and in our 10th season it is time to crack
the top 4 and work
towards our next goal of
Premiership Glory
