Support our Pet Program

Our caring volunteers deliver nutritious meals to our home-bound clients and pet food for their furry companions. Byproviding pet food we eliminatethe temptation for our clients to share their people foodkeeping both people and their pets well fed.

Our pet program also includes limited emergency veterinary services to ensure the health of our clients’ pets.

Our programs ensure that both people and pets have healthymeals and are cared for. Our homebound friends and their pets are able to enjoy a better quality of life and maybe live alittle longer.

MOW West and County of Los Angeles Meals on Wheels Association Partner with USC LA Veterans Collaborative

For too many years veterans have struggled to find the services they need and toreintegrate into civilian life. Younger veterans sometimes suffer from PTSD as well as physical injuries or disabilities. Older veterans often have chronic diseases.

“I have diabetes and can’t cook right. With Meals on Wheels I’m eating healthy. It reallyhelps.” said US Airforce veteran Stan Nelson. “We are honored to serve those who have served our country,” exalted Chris Baca, MOW West Executive Director. “

“What we know in the health and human sector is that organizations that collaboratewell reach their goals faster,” stated Nathan Graeser, Community Program Administrator,USC Los Angeles Veterans Collaborative. LAVC is collaborating with MOW West andother Meals on Wheels agencies to provide meals to veterans on the Westside, Mid-Cityand DTLA for 90 days. The goal is to improve the health of veterans, provide a better quality of life while reducing health care usage and costs .

“Our tracking shows that we are helping veterans to be healthier and stay in their homes by providing nutritious meals and monitoring there health and wellness. We hope tocontinue the program beyond the 90 day pilot.” said Baca. “The Center for Effective Government shows that for every dollar invested in meal programs over $50 is saved inhealthcare costs. Most importantly we are caring for our veterans.”

We are serving twice as many veterans and their spouses as we did last year.

In just one building in Venice we deliver to a dozen clients.

There is Hidden Hunger in affluent communities including Malibu and Pacific Palisades.

Every day patients are released from local hospitals that can’t cook for themselves as they Heal Healthy at Home.

There are many more people in need of our nutritious meal deliveries and daily Wellness Check.

About 40% of patients don’t know how they will get meals when they are discharged from the hospital.

Our Heal Healthy at Home program provides healing, healthy meals and a daily Wellness Check for patients who need our help for a few weeks or a few years.

Every March, community stakeholders across the country show their support for the Meals on Wheels program in their city by delivering meals to homebound people. MOW West’s Community Champions Meal Delivery Day increased public awareness of the prevalence of hunger and isolation in our communities.
