09/09/2010 Sachin got his first ODI 100. look at his best ODI 100s This day back in 1994 was a very special day for the master blaster. Sachin Tendulkar got his first ODI hundred and that was against the team he always loves scoring, Australia. That was a special day not just because it was his first but for the journey that began after 79 ODIs is now an unending one. Incidentally, his 46th ODI was a double hundred. A record that could stay in the books for a long long time. For any player, a first is a first and Sachin and his fans will be remembering his innings at Colombo for a lifetime. As we today celebrate 'this day that year', let us also tell you how the little master has been peaking with age.

200 against South Africa at Gwalior, Feb 2010

This was truly matchless in every sense and it came when most people were startingo talk about the ageing legs of the little master. This fabulous innings showed spiritor sport defies all other minnows like age, stamina, etc. Even the South Africans

were left happy that they were a part of the treat. This inning broke Saeed Anwar'sold record, which incidentally came against India. Sachin knows how to undo a badecord for India.

Superlative No. 2

143 against Australia, Sharjah 1998

Tears and goose bumps were the emotional feelings that ruled not just India butevery lover of the game of cricket with this innings. Truly majestic and it came at aime when India had their backs to the wall and had to get past New Zealand on runate to qualify for the final. Even the desert storm, which engulfed Sharjah may haveushed the players to dressing room but the little master stood in the middle and senthe storm away. Sachin exploded and even made commentator Tony Greig saying,This is unbelievable. Sachin Tendulkar wants to go for a win and they are dancing inhe aisles of Sharjah.". How true

Superlative No. 3

140 against Kenya in 1999 World Cup

Sachin was overcome by a personal tragedy just at the start of the 1999 world cup, when he lost his father who was more than a friend for the little boy. Even whilebraving to overcome the personal tragedy that struck him, he returned to play for theountry and returned in the way he knows doing. A majestic 140 off just 101 balls

against Kenya was his way of paying tribute to the departed soul. Cricket, since 1877had never seen anything like that emotionally.

Superlative No. 4

117 against Australia, Commonwealth Bank series 1st final Sydney, 2008

First ODI century in Australia and what a way to get it. And what a moment toachieve it. For all those critics who felt Sachin was not a man for the big occasion,Sachin's 117 was the perfect answer. This inning came shortly after that flamboyant63 from 54 balls against Sri Lanka that ensured India would sail into the finals

Superlative No. 5

138 against Sri Lanka, Compaq Cup Final, 2009

A brief rest given to Sachin by selectors before the Compaq Cup gave the West Indiesbowlers a big relief but proved to be a doom for Sri Lankan bowlers. The little mastereturned with freshness and smacked Lankan bowlers in the final to score a majestic

138. This was Sachin's 6th ODI 100 in a final and India had won all of those 6 finals.

134 against Australia, Final, Sharjah 1998

t is not always in a player's long career that two innings from a same tournamenteature in the elite list. If Sachin's kangaroo lunch during Sharjah 1998 semi final was

an absolute treat, the 134 in the final was no less. The only difference, the effort inhe final was certain even before the first ball of the final was bowled given the

massive momentum. Reaction of Aussie bowlers was a testimony to the dominance of Sachin in that series

Superlative No.7

104 against Zimbabwe, Standard Bank ODI Series 9th match, 1997.

Do you remember this series? India were struggling against the South Africans andunfortunately not doing too well against Zimbabwe either( that was a good Zimbabweide though). In this 9th match at Benoni, India had to beat Zimbabwe with 9.4 overso spare and only then will the team progress to the summit clash against the

Proteas. And Sachin did it for India. The fans went delirious and India romped home inhe 40th over.

Superlative No.8

128 against Sri Lanka, Singer Cup final 1998

t was a rain-affected tri-series and New Zealand were an unlucky side as most of

heir matches were washed out and in the process their chances too. India had lost toSri Lanka by just 8 runs in the dress rehearsal to the finals and the final that followedwas a classic. The Mumbai maestro put on a record opening partnership of 252 withDada Ganguly and took India past the 300 mark. What made Sachin's masterlynnings of 128 special was that there were only 48 runs that came in the form of 4sand 6s.

163 retired hurt against New Zealand, Christchurch, March 2009

Sachin had got into the 3rd ODI at Christchurch with some unease in the stomach. But, when he is feeling a little unwell, we all know who faces the heat. The Kiwibowlers were smashed all over the park as the master blaster raced to 163 beforetomach cramps proved too much to handle. The job was done as India headed to

392. Sachin could not play in the next 2 ODIs but that inning of 163 was enough ingetting India the series 3-1.

Superlative No.10

175 against Australia, Hyderabad, 2009

t was a tantalising scenario going into the 5th game of the 7-match bilateral series. The series was tied 2-2 and any team winning the 5th one will be in a strong positiono win the series. Australia had raced to 350 for 4 and at that time even a die-hardndian fan had written off India's chances. But, they forgot Sachin's love for theBiriyani city. He reached 17000 ODI runs and also got his personal best againstAustralia but when he almost got India to the door of victory, he threw his wicket.ndian tail failed to wag and the team lost by 3 runs.

Superlative No.11

186 against New Zealand, Hyderabad 1999

We spoke just a moment ago about the little master's love for Hyderabad. A decadebefore that awe-inspiring 175, Sachin had scored his highest ODI score of 186 in theame city although at another ground. His innings of 186 was special and left therowd at the Lal Bahadur Stadium stay back for hours after the end of the match anded to chaos on the roads of Hyderabad. New Zealand could never come back in thatmatch and series.
