OJT OCCUPATIONS OJT opportunities are directly linked to employment opportunities either in the local area or in another area to which you would be willing to relocate. OJT may not be used to train for low skill occupations in which prior experience or training is not a prerequisite to hiring. OJT may only be used in occupations where there is a reasonable expectation that the position(s) will continue beyond the training period. Occupations with traditionally high turnover will not be used for OJT unless the reasons for high turnover are identified and exempt- ed from consideration. OJT placement should occur in jobs which provide opportunities not otherwise available and lead to economic self-sufficiency. On-the-Job Training (OJT) gives employers the opportunity to tap into a pool of workers who are good candidates for a job but may need additional training to be qualified.

OJT is training provided by an employer who will instruct, guide and prepare an employee with the skills and knowledge essential to perform the job.

The OJT Agreement is developed between the employer and case manager to provide occupational training for a program partici-pant. In exchange the employer is reim-bursed for a percentage of the employee’s wage.

The Evaluation Process for Potential Participant(s) for Placement in OJT Before you’re referred to an OJT you will work with a case manager to develop an individual employment plan. This will include an assessment of your skills and abilities as well as identifying your employment goals.

The assessment also determines if job train-ing assistance is necessary for you to obtain the position. If the employer is willing to

train you without the reimbursement help from OJT, then using OJT services is not necessary. In some cases, the position may not be an exact match to your employment goal, but what you’ll get is a stepping stone that will line you up for your ideal job.

The goal is to ensure that the wage/benefit package meets your financial needs. Salary increases can be used as part of a success-ful advancement of skills.

Employee/Trainee Agreement

Commitment: This training opportunity is an investment in your future. To succeed in reaching your goal it is essential that you follow your training plan to the best of your ability.

Responsibilities: You must make satis-factory progress in all parts of your training plan to continue with the job.

You will work directly for the employer as a regular employee and report as scheduled to the job site.

You are responsible for the care and main-tenance of any tools or supplies provided for your training program. If misplaced or stolen, please call your case manager immediately.

You must call your case manager at once if you have difficulties in accomplishing your training plan or problems with transportation or childcare.

Employee Participation: You will help develop your employment plan. If you fail to participate as agreed, it could jeopardize any further training or state monetary assistance.
