Park View was recognized as one of the 25 most improved K-8 schools in the state of N.C. 92.7 percent of Park View’s students are now per- forming at or above grade level; the school has increased student performance by al- most 20 percent over the last five years. Park View has also earned the title of Honor School of Excellence for 2005 because it met both state growth goals and the national Adequate Yearly progress growth goals. Wins UNCC scholarship David A. Goebelt of Mooresville has been award- ed the first Dennis N. Bunker Endowed Scholarship in Eco- nomics at UNC-Charlotte. The scholarship was estab- lished in 2004 by Dennis Bun- ker, a real estate developer and 1981 graduate of UNCC, to support economics stu- dents in the Belk College of Business. The son of Carl and Sharon Goebelt of Mooresville, Goe- belt is a resident of Statesville. An economics major, he will graduate in December. She’s a Mack Scholar Erin Ramona Leger of Mooresville has been named an Alice Azouri Mack Scholar at Duke University. The schol- arship is awarded to Iredell County students for academ- ic achievement. One of four current Mack Scholars at Duke, Leger is the daughter of Yvette and Gary Leger. Wins O’Connor fiction award Randy Nelson, a Davidson College professor of English and a 1966 graduate of Moor- esville High School, has won a Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction from the Uni- versity of Georgia. Nelson won for “The Imaginary Lives of Mechanical Men.” UGA press will publish Nelson’s work in 2006. Board OKs strategic plans The Mooresville Graded School District Board of Ed- ucation last week approved the 2005-2006 school im- provement plans for all MGSD schools; the plans cen- ter around the state board’s five strategic priorities and have been approved by each individual school.

School District recently host-ed an Appreciation Dinner forthe staff of Park View Elemen-tary, at the Charles Mack Cit-izen Center in Mooresville.Park View was recognized asone of the 25 most improvedK-8 schools in the state ofN.C. 92.7 percent of ParkView’s students are now per-forming at or above gradelevel; the school has increasedstudent performance by al-most 20 percent over the lastfive years.

Park View has also earnedthe title of Honor School ofExcellence for 2005 because itmet both state growth goalsand the national AdequateYearly progress growth goals.

Wins UNCC scholarshipDavid A. Goebelt of

Mooresville has been award-ed the first Dennis N. BunkerEndowed Scholarship in Eco-nomics at UNC-Charlotte.The scholarship was estab-lished in 2004 by Dennis Bun-ker, a real estate developerand 1981 graduate of UNCC,to support economics stu-dents in the Belk College ofBusiness.

The son of Carl and SharonGoebelt of Mooresville, Goe-belt is a resident of Statesville.An economics major, he willgraduate in December.

Mooresville has been namedan Alice Azouri Mack Scholarat Duke University. The schol-arship is awarded to IredellCounty students for academ-ic achievement. One of fourcurrent Mack Scholars atDuke, Leger is the daughter of

Yvette and Gary Leger.

Wins O’Connor fiction awardRandy Nelson, a Davidson

College professor of Englishand a 1966 graduate of Moor-esville High School, has won aFlannery O’Connor Award forShort Fiction from the Uni-versity of Georgia. Nelsonwon for “The Imaginary Livesof Mechanical Men.” UGApress will publish Nelson’swork in 2006.
