visual identity

debrecht has taken an important step to visually reinforce the cultural alignment between its

different Businesses. During the first quarter of 2013, the Organization launched a new brand architecture that involves adopting a single brand for all businesses. Only Braskem and the Enseada do Paraguaçu Shipyard did not join the new system for corporate specific reasons.

“We needed to visually reinforce for companies and people the feeling of belonging to a single Organization,” said Márcio Polidoro, responsible for Communication at Odebrecht S.A. “One the other hand, we also needed to demonstrate to them the Organization’s commitment to each one of its businesses,” said Polidoro.

The challenge was launched by the English consulting firm Interbrand in 2011.

In work that took more than one year to complete, professionals from the company visited the Organization’s construction projects, industrial units, concessionaires and offices in Brazil and in other countries. The goal was to understand the Odebrecht business culture and the specific characteristics resulting from the decentralization of its operations. At the time, each company created and managed its own brand.

“We gathered a set of perceptions, and together with the client, we established the work premises that were always oriented by the idea that the brand is an asset that should be managed aiming to understand

those with whom it relates,” explained Laura Garcia, Brand Strategy Manager at Interbrand. “Another decisive factor was the idea to build a global perception for a corporate organization that operates in different businesses and countries. That is why it was necessary to create a single brand, one that was capable of resisting structural changes,” said Garcia.

Besides reinforcing the meaning of “Organization,” the adoption of the mono-brand system allowed the Organization to create differentiations between the businesses through specific descriptions associated with the Odebrecht brand. The descriptions have the purpose of simply and clearly informing each business’s segment of operation.

S.A. holding, April 1 was chosen as the official day for the change. A campaign to launch the new brand was prepared by the Odebrecht S.A. Communication team to involve the Members in the Organization’s new phase.

One of the campaign highlights was the disclosure of a video that features animations reinforcing the unity between the businesses, pointed out the relevant aspects of the Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Culture and presented the new architecture of the brands. The video was sent to all Members of the Organization through e-mail marketing and reached 14,042 accesses in one week, with more than 1,000 “Shares” on the social networks. On the official Odebrecht Facebook page, there were 93,000 views of the film presentation post, which was “Liked” by 446 people.

The campaign also included the replacement of the logo in the Odebrecht S.A. office reception areas, the placement of banners and posters in the indoor environments, publication of electronic banners on the online corporate portal and Organization website, as well as the replacement of the badges of some 1,200 Members of the holding. These Members also received kits with objects that featured examples of the ways to apply the new brand. In all, the launch actions included eight offices in Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo.

8

The Brand Territory was developed with aims of orienting the application of the new visual identity

“We hope that with this campaign, the Members will care for this brand, its application and use it correctly, since it is a brand that belongs to all of us,” said Karolina Gutiez, responsible for Editorial Programs and Brand Management at Odebrecht S.A. “This is very important for our Organization,” said Gutiez.

BRAND TERRITORYBrand Territory, a website that gathers all the standards for the correct use of

the brand, was created in order to facilitate Member and service provider access to the Odebrecht Organization’s new visual guidelines. In order to access it, it is necessary to register on the home page and await approval by the website management team.

In Brand Territory, users can find information about the attributes and strategy of the Organization’s brand, the Tone of Voice Guidelines for elaborating texts, Color Guide for the new visual identity, Sign and Fleet Manual, as well as the new brand architecture. Also available for download are the different versions of the logo, office stationary, the new Odebrecht typographic family, the presentation model and the pictograms used on the signs for the different environments.

Each company has its own version of the Brand Territory, with visual guidelines, variants of the logo and specific applications for the respective type of business. All in an integrated environment, developed with aims of guaranteeing visual unity and strengthening the Organization’s brand.

The opening game at the Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova, held on April 7, included the presence of 41,500 people

12

fter 1 ,959 days, or five years and five months, fans once again were able to

set foot on the site that has served as stage to important moments in soccer history. On the sunny afternoon of Apri l 7, more than 40,000 fans of the soccer teams Bahia and Vitória gathered to “kick off” a new history: the inauguration of the Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova .

From November 2007 to April 2013, a great deal changed. The former Octávio Mangabeira Stadium, inaugurated in 1951, became Salvador’s newest postcard view, imploded and rebuilt to host the Confederations Cup and 2014 World Cup.

The inaugural events at Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova began on April 5 and wil l continue unti l the long-awaited classic soccer game between the teams Bahia and Vitória on Sunday. Odebrecht News presents the details of these celebrations.

President Dilma Rousseff, accompanied by the State Governor Jaques Wagner, gave the kick marking the official inauguration of Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova

14

5, Fonte Nova Negócios e Participações – the concessionaire that administers the arena formed by Odebrecht Properties and OAS Arenas – held the official inauguration ceremony with the presence of Brazil ian President Dilma Rousseff, accompanied by Bahia Governor Jaques Wagner, Salvador Mayor Antônio Carlos Magalhães Neto and Members of the construction consortium Arena Salvador (Odebrecht Infraestrutura and Construtora OAS).

In her speech, Dilma Rousseff spoke about the pride the construction project brings for Brazil ians. “I am pleased to present the inauguration of this arena,” said President Rousseff. “It makes me proud to see that we are surpassing expectations. It is not every country that has such beauty at its stadiums. The ‘horseshoe’ shape gives the people an identity, since the arena faces the Tororó Fountain, where I drank water when I was a child, where the African Gods of this land are found, where the pride

of this city’s syncretism is found,” she said.

Present at the event were the Minister of Sports, Aldo Rebelo; Minister of Justice, José Eduardo Cardoso; Minister of Communication, Helena Chagas;

15

The famous “Senhor do Bonfim” ribbon, which surrounded the entire arena, was untied, symbolizing that the dream of delivering the new stadium had come true

Minister of Transports, César Borges; Minister of Policies for the Promotion of Racial Equality, Luiza Bairros, and Father Antônio Maria. The President of Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova, Frank Alcântara, company directors and Ney

Campello, Head of the State Department for FIFA World Cup Affairs, also participated in the ceremony.

WISH COM E TRUEOn the afternoon of Apri l 6,

16

journalists and guests attended the event to break the enormous Senhor do Bonfim ribbon that surrounded the entire arena. The ‘Bonfim ribbon,’ a tradition of Bahia culture, symbolizes a request made and fulfi l lment of a wish.

“This was a dream, a request that now became a reality: give the Bahia people an arena with the structure they deserve,” emphasized Frank Alcântara. According to Douglas Costa, Market Director of the Petrópolis Group (manufacturer

17

The participation of Arthur Nascimento and Bahia singers marked the artistic performance for the arena’s inauguration

of the Itaipava brand beer), entertainment and many events are included in the arena’s plans: “It is a demonstration of gratitude and respect for Bahia traditions, one of the most important offered by the Petrópolis Group.”

‘FONTE NOVA IS OURS’Before watching the soccer

game, the fans had the opportunity to tour the new arena installations and watch the inaugural event that paid tribute to Bahia culture.

Young Arthur Nascimento, age 13, who suffers from polio and after several treatments was able to walk with the assistance of special equipment, was the one chosen to kick off the ceremony. “I want to say that everyone needs to respect individuals with special needs,” said Nascimento. “Being disabled does not mean being incapable. I also want to ask for a peaceful Ba-Vi [classic Bahia versus Vitória game]. Everyone needs to respect one another,” said the youth, who received a standing

18

ovation from the audience. The Master of Ceremonies,

Bahia actor Fábio Lago, headed the celebration. Wearing white and holding a tambourine, he played the Repente musical style and recited Cordel – a popular l iterary genre of Brazil ’s Northeastern region frequently written in rhyme. “For these people, who are warriors, the team is canarinho (nickname for the team, meaning “l ittle canary”) and who have a miracle-working saint and say together, Our God is Brazil ian,” he recited.

Fábio Lago remembered the victims of the accident that occurred on November 25, 2007, when seven people died after part of the grandstand collapsed at the former Fonte Nova. The names of Anísio Marques Neto, Djalma Lima Santos, Jadson Celestino, Joselito Lima Júnior, Márcia Santos Cruz, Midian Andrade Santos and Milena Vasquez Palmeira were read and displayed on the big screens. “And from the wreckage and the injured, this dream is born,” recited the actor. “The wait was a sullen time, but no pain is in vain, no dream dies a pagan. Now we are al l witness to a new

dawn, our chest is fi l led with the certainty that we deserve this feat. From our chest comes this sincere tribute. Our respect and memory that prevails,” recited the actor.

After that, the Bahia singers gave the celebration a more musical tone. Margareth Menezes sang Kirimurê , a song by Jota Velloso; Mariene de Castro sang some traditional samba songs, called samba de roda , the rhythm characteristic of the Bahia Recôncavo region; and Marcia Short, Dan Miranda and Claudia Leitte stepped up on stage to sing the songs Crença e Fé (“Belief and Faith”) and Sorriso Negro (“Black Smile”).

Ivete Sangalo ended the artistic performances with a tribute to the players who made Brazil ian soccer history – Aliomar Brito, André Catimba, Baiaco, Beijoca, El izeu Godoy, Emo, Marcelo Ramos, Osni Lopes, Paulo Isidoro, Preto Casagrande, Ronaldo Passos, Sapatão, Sérgio Moraes, Tyrso, Wesley, Zé Carlos, Zé Eduardo and Ricky. The singer and other artists sang the Bahia and Vitória hymns together.

“I am happy and honored to be able to sing at the arena opening,

19

The Bahia stage designers responsible for the artistic event developed a stage made from styrofoam reused from the construction work. More lightweight, it helped preserve the arena grass

20

With a capacity for 50,000 people, the new arena has covered seats on 10 levels and three grandstand rings

which is a beloved and important place that is part of our history and culture,” said Margareth Menezes. “I hope the people are able to cherish it, enjoying this place for many years to come, an achievement earned by al l .” Ivete Sangalo, who confirmed the recording of her 20-year career special at Itaipava Arena Fonte

Nova, reinforced: “This is a temple of joy, entertainment and pride for al l Bahia people,” she said.

TH E BALL “ROLLS”The classic Ba-Vi game was

preceded by the national hymn performed by 100 musicians from Olodum, a traditional percussion group in the state. Bahia and

21

Renato Cajá’s penalty kick marked the first goal at the Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova during the game that ended 5-to-1 with Vitória as winner

22

Vitória played a heated game, with the points counting toward the Bahia Championship.

The game began highly competitive, with both teams on the offensive. Forty-two minutes into the first half, Renato Cajá’s penalty kick earned Vitória the first goal in the Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova. During the second half, there were another five goals,

four of these by Vitória – scored by Maxi Biancuchi, Michel, Vander and Escudero – as well as one by Bahia, scored by Zé Roberto.

According to Frank Alcântara, there were no serious problems at any time during the event. “It is a new start for all of us,” he said. “Today is just the first day. This arena will evolve with each game.”

23

The fans from the teams Bahia (“tri-colors”) and Vitória (“red and black”) watched an exciting classic game classified as part of the Bahia

NAMING RIGHTSThe Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova

is the first among the new Brazilian multiuse arenas to sign a naming rights agreement. In order to earn this privilege, the Petrópolis Group is investing R$ 10 million per year for a 10-year period.

The agreement grants Itaipava and the company’s other brands the right to sell their products exclusively at all of the arena’s bars and restaurants.

On March 23, Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias promoted the official launch of Porto Atlantico and inaugurated its stand in Rio de Janeiro. The event was marked by an air of celebration, since the 830 units of East Porto Atlantico – the first of the complex’s two developments, have been sold.

The opening for sale took place on March 20 and 21, when some 50 Members from the Rio de Janeiro Regional Office mobilized efforts for an event that became yet another milestone for the company. “I gathered together the team to transmit a message about the importance of the moment in each one’s life and career and its relevance for Odebrecht,” said Rogério Oliveira, responsible for Incorporation. “The result could not have been better,” he said. Oliveira stated that those involved woarked with a vibrant positive energy: “The team was crucial for ensuring a successful result and the commitment and dedication of everyone

involved made the difference,” he said. Porto Atlantico is located in Maravilha

Port, the Rio de Janeiro port region that is being revitalized with the participation of Odebrecht Infraestrutura. Its first phase, the East Porto Atlantico, will consist of two towers with 450 rooms that are part of the Ibis and Novotel chains, a tower with 330 commercial rooms, a tower with AAA Standard corporate properties and 50 stores on the ground floor. The plans are to start the construction work during the second quarter of 2013 with delivery during the first half of 2016. The second development of the complex, West Porto Atlantico, to be launched soon, will have three AAA Standard corporate towers and several different stores.

After the installation of the red chairs, the Pernambuco Arena earned yet another color: the field has been taken over by the green of the grass. On March 23 and 24, 15 days ahead of time, Odebrecht Infraestrutura planted the grass for the Confederations Cup games in June of this year.

Before it was taken to the arena, the Bermuda Tifway 419 grass, recommended by FIFA, was planted and cultivated starting in November of last year at the Nautical Training Center, the club that established a contract to play its games at the Pernambuco Arena. A total of 500 rolls of grass were necessary, each one measuring 1.20 m wide and 15 m long to fill the field, whose total area extends 8,970 square meters.

For Bruno Dourado, Contract Director, the Pernambuco Arena came to life. “Starting now, all of the work will revolve around the grass field,” emphasized Dourado. Other activities are also being undertaken, such as the final phase of the seat placement, finish work and side closure, among others.

Forming a group of social communicators to answer the questions raised by the local community as to the progress of the construction work for the Enseada do Paraguaçu Shipyard (EEP) is the primary objective of the initiative created by the Institutional Relations and Sustainability Board. On March 8, EEP held the Communicators’ Network launch event at the head office of the entity Vovó do Mangue (“Grandma of the Mangroves”) in Maragojipe, located in the Bahia Recôncavo Region.

Through this action, 15 people from the local communities will be permanently heard and informed about the project and its schedule, the government’s counterparts, planned

events, generation of job opportunities and qualification of direct labor.

According to Roque Peixoto, Coordinator of the EEP Communicators’ Network, the group is formed by interaction agents. “The participants are those people who stood out over the past years in terms of their representativeness, true local social leaders who consider EEP to be an opportunity for strengthening their regions,” explained Peixoto.

The network is a space for governance and participation, with the agents as the main participants and promoters. “The idea is to form a fluid and dialogue-based network, encouraging a ‘two-way’ communication,” summarized Peixoto.

The Communicators’ Network is formed by fishermen, shellfish farmers, quilombolas (communities of former freed slaves), community leaders, community communicators and bloggers

The Rota das Bandeiras Concessionaire began assembling a precast concrete tunnel at the Caxambu Clover, included in the duplication project for the Engenheiro Constâncio Cintra (SP-360) Highway, which connects Jundiaí to Itatiba, in rural São Paulo. The use of a European engineering solution wil l make it possible to conclude the project in half the time necessary to build a conventional tunnel.

Odebrecht brought the Portuguese technology to Brazil for the first time for the South stretch of the Beltway. “On Rota das Bandeiras, the project also adds the construction of new turn-offs with aims of el iminating

traffic confl icts and guaranteeing users more safety and comfort,” explained Jurandir Barrocal Netto, the concessionaire’s Engineering Director.

The tunnel with a length of 62 m, width of 13 m and height of 9 m wil l consist of 49 precast modules and wil l serve as the lower passage in the connection between the Engenheiro Constâncio Cintra and João Cereser Highways. The conclusion of the SP-360 duplication work along the Jundiaí stretch and the ful l release for the use of the devices such as the Caxambu Clover and lower passage of Km 70.1 is scheduled for the second half of this year.

Attentive to the needs of the civil construction sector, Braskem and Multinova launched for the Brazilian market the expanded polyethylene (PE) covers produced with Italian technology – an innovative solution to reduce the transmission of noises between the different floors of buildings and also increase the quality of the construction work.

The product is an alternative for complying with Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 15575-3:2013, which becomes effective in July of this year and establishes the minimum acoustic performance requirements for buildings. The new requirement establishes the criteria and evaluation methods for the main systems included in a building: structure, indoor

floors, outdoor and internal sealing, roofs and hydraulic bathroom installation. The PE covers follow rigorous quality control and their efficiency is proven through technical trials conducted at the Technological Research Institute and independent Italian institutes.

The product is made of expanded PE, which makes it more lightweight, more durable and less expensive. “The cover is an alternative with a better cost-benefit that we can find in the acoustic insulation market, allowing us to achieve levels that are intermediate and superior compared to the standard,” explained Jorge Alexandre, responsible for the Braskem PE Market Development. “With the strong expansion of civil construction, it is necessary to invest in new products,” he said.

In the current scenario marked by a scarcity of rains and the rationing of water in Brazil’s Northeastern region, the CONEST Consortium (formed by Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial and OAS) is adopting new solutions to save approximately 30 million liters of water. The idea involves the adoption of new technologies for hydrostatic tests and the internal cleaning of the Atmospheric Distillation Unit (UDA) piping at the Abreu e Lima Refinery, located in Pernambuco.

The new method was developed

at the consortium with the participation of partner companies and the support of Petrobras. The installation involves three new practices: the internal sand blasting of the piping (process that prevents the use of water), the passage of the mechanical PIG with passivation (removal of solid products from the internal walls of the piping) and the installation of the Water Treatment and Reuse Plant (WTP), inaugurated in March of this year with the capacity to produce 200,000 l iters of water.

‘Giants’ of Odebrecht AngolaIn order to meet

the demands of the Cambambe Hydroelectric Facil ity dam structure elevation work, the Spanish manufacturer Linden Comansa is currently install ing two cranes. The cranes are the largest pieces of Odebrecht equipment in Angola.

The cranes wil l help with the laying of 65,000

cubic meters of concrete in the abutments and central span, elevating the height by more than 20 meters and al lowing for a maximization of the energy generation at Centers 1 and 2.

The first piece of equipment, located along the left bank of the Kwanza River, has been operating since February of this year.

The second crane, which wil l be installed along the right bank, wil l have its assembly finalized in May. For Roberval Fonseca, Equipment Manager, the use of the cranes wil l optimize the work time: “This is modern equipment that can be quickly assembled and which wil l meet the needs of the dam elevation work,” said Fonseca.

With the capacity to transport 48 tons and more than 82 meters high, the equipment is the company’s largest in the country

Visit to the Providência Cable Car On March 22, the Austrian Ambassador

in Brasil, Mariane Feldmann, visited the construction work for the Providência cable car, located in the Rio de Janeiro Port Zone.

The delegation was received by Rodrigo Jurdi, Contract Director at Odebrecht Infraestrutura, who presented the system’s three stations: Central do Brasil, Américo Brum and Gamboa. “The cable car represents a new phase for Providência, which will now have its mobility facilitated,” he said.

Jurdi pointed out the other interventions being undertaken, such as the construction of 293 housing units, an inclined plane and sports center, as well as the revitalization work taking place at historical sites and the

city planning of the surrounding area.“The World Bank has accompanied these

urban mobility references throughout Latin America,” she said. “This cable car is part of the legacy that will remain for the residents. An efficient way to connect the different areas of the city,” emphasized Feldmann.

The installation of the Providência cable car is currently in the final phase and involves 400 Members whose work is concentrated in the electrical assembly work and conclusion of the civil construction work. With 16 cabins, the system car will transport 1,000 people per hour in each direction. Its operation is set to begin by the end of April.

“ Each one of us will play a multiplying role in the award. I am thankful for the recognition and congratulate the important work that Odebrecht does in the area of sustainability. This demonstrates that the company practices and believes in the topic. ”

Humberto Santos, student from the University of Pernambuco (UPE)

“ “Small things can change the course of our life. The award may be a crucial factor in the future of these youth and it makes us believe that we are capable of completing and achieving that which seems impossible. If in the future they do not follow the path of sustainability, perhaps with this award, they will be encouraged to do so.”

Egon Vettorazzi, Advisor and Professor from the Dynamic Union of

Cataratas Colleges (UDC)

“ “As a faculty member, I see how the award serves as major motivation for the student. The joy of winning and the recognition of the work help contribute toward the student’s pro-active posture.””

Ana Augusta Rezende, Professor at the University of Viçosa (UFV)

“ In addition to serving as encouragement, the award is an interesting way to publicize our work, which is developed far from the big cities. It is also a way to give back to the community for the investment it is making in a public university. I plan to use the award money to invest in important courses and tools for my profession.”

Larissa Barbosa, student from the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul

“ I thank Odebrecht for giving us the opportunity to contribute toward sustainable development in the country. This allows us to put our knowledge to practice and evaluate our ideas, in addition to offering major visibility and helping build a network of relationships. This award will remain an important milestone in my career.”

The concessionaire installed a curbside garbage collection system based on underground storage. This optimizes the public cleaning and recycling work and frees up the sidewalks

MARAVILHA PORT: SUSTAINABLE CHANGE FOR RIO DE JANEIRO

On the morning of the ceremony, the winning groups had the chance to tour the Porto Novo Concessionaire, responsible for revitalizing Downtown Rio de Janeiro through the Maravilha Port contract. “When I arrived, the construction project had contact with a unique business model, one with clear benefits for the entire city,” said Ricardo Bueno, Contract Director. “The project includes a focus on sustainability and also adds a cultural aspect,” he said.

For example, the contract brought the city several different archeological findings, social-cultural initiatives for the community and an innovative model for curbside garbage collection, with underground storage. It will also promote improvements in sanitation, traffic and landscaping in the region. For Ricardo Bueno, sustainability in Brazil is being debated more intensely.

“The topic has ceased from being discussed exclusively within the academic sphere and has earned more space in companies’ agendas, the media and development actions undertaken by communities,” said Bueno.

After the presentation of the business model and project by the President of the Porto Novo Concessionaire, José Renato Ponte, and by Ricardo Bueno, the group curiously visited the “My Maravilha Port” exhibit room, where they got an interactive look at the changes to take place in the region as well as how the concessionaire will operate. “As someone who is passionate about the project and the city, I am proud to be able to contribute to the increased urban intervention that has occurred over the past 100 years,” said Bueno.

public area of the Odebrecht São Paulo Building – was held on March 26 in São Paulo. The winner was Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), with the project elaborated by students Cecília Siqueira, César Roberti and Rafael Conforto, from the Product Design course.

The group used sources from nature to create the project entitled “Elo.” The pieces of furniture presented stood out for the lightweightness of their lines, attractive and innovative contours and aggregating shapes. The participants also created a line of benches with the central link that allows for diverse formats and several different types of use. “These pieces of furniture were created thinking about people’s integration and comfort, without the need to sacrifice the beautiful appearance,” said Walmir Soller, Polypropylene Director at Braskem. “We are pleased to see the youth embracing the project and understanding our objective. Our expectation to create innovative and sustainable pieces of furniture has been surpassed,” said Soller.

The projects of the other participating

institutions also surprised the judges. So much so that there was a special distinction awarded for the table designed by the students from the Armando Álvaro Penteado (FAAP) Foundation as part of the “Coral” line, which used nature and maternity as references for representing diversity and exchange. The São Paulo Fine Arts University Center, on the other hand, opted to take its inspiration from renowned artists to design the “Harmony” line, which features rounded characteristics and unique details in eye-catching pieces of furniture. The Mauá Technology Institute found in the grandeur and integration of nature the elements for the line “Praying Mantis,” which aligns practicality with strength.

According to Carla Barretto, Managing Director of Odebrecht Properties, the Design Challenge and creation of the building were developed based on the concepts of the Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Technology (TEO). “In addition to contributing toward the development of new talents, the challenge and development reinforce themes such as synergy, best engineering practices, social-environmental commitment and environment, and recognize the potentials of human beings,” said Barretto.

interiors project at the Odebrecht São Paulo Building. Instead of looking for renowned designers, the companies opted for a process that involved young talents from the Brazilian design world. The chosen raw material was plastic, due to its versatility, lightweightness, resistance and the possibility of developing more complex and sophisticated shapes. Furthermore,

55

For a four-month period, the participants accompanied the entire creative process, with the orientation of professionals and technical lectures related to the Challenge theme

plastic also stands out for being a more sustainable option, since it is 100% recyclable.

The Fines Arts institutions, FAAP, IED and Mauá, all of which offer the Product Design course in their curriculum, were invited to nominate students to accept the challenge of developing the project for a plastic chair, table and chaise lounge that could meet the concepts of sustainability, innovation and bold design and which also represented concepts of the Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Technology (TEO). During the preparation, the selected students received consulting from the design agency Mais Packing, a partner on the project.

The projects were required to be applicable to the theme, original,

creative and present technological and marketing innovation, in addition to offering industrial feasibility – a characteristic evaluated by the brand Tramontina, the company responsible for making the final pieces of furniture. The judging committee consisted of representatives from Braskem, Odebrecht and Tramontina, together with specialists.

Family at the Construction SiteThe cliché “like father, like son” passes

from generation to generation. The support and incentive of the father figure are important and can contribute toward the success of heirs, such as those of Hélio Ferreira Lima, Technical Assistant at Odebrecht Infraestrutura.

The Member recommended his sons to work on the construction of the Simplício Hydroelectric Power Plant in Rio de Janeiro and they are currently colleagues at the Teles Pires Hydroelectric Power Plant. Aldson Carlos de Oliveira Lima is Water Treatment Operator and Wesley de Oliveira Lima works as a Workplace Safety Technician. Hélio’s nephew, Anselmo Gomes de Oliveira Filho, is also part of the professional family as a Crane Operator. “Working with my ‘boys’ is a dream come true,” said the Member, who has been with Odebrecht for 20 years.

Wesley reveals that his entry into the civil construction sector was encouraged daily by his father: “He talked about the benefits and how I could grow in the career,” said Wesley. “I accepted the challenge and I think I made the right choice,” he said, smiling.

With his wife, daughter and nephews working on the same construction project, Mauro Vicente da Silva, Electromechanical Assembly Welder, is now seeing an old dream of being close to his family come true. “I have worked in construction from very early on and am away from home. That is why my sons and nephews always wanted to come along,” he said. The daughter Ruth Alves da Silva, for example, is Technical Assistant. “This is our first project and we will continue to follow in my father’s footsteps,” she said.

Instal led within the “Legal Amazon” area and just 7 km from Downtown Porto Velho, the Santo Antônio HPP, one of the world’s 15 largest, wi l l reach an instal led power of 3,150.4 MW in 2015, enough to supply more than 40 mil l ion people.

The plant is currently operating at 25% of its total capacity. With 11 units in operation, it can reach a power of 783 MW, enough energy

to supply 3 mil l ion homes. The plans are to end this year with 27 generator units in operation, corresponding to more than 60 % of the total capacity.

Under the leadership of Odebrecht Infraestrutura in Brazi l , the construction work for the Santo Antônio H PP is one of the first under the Brazi l ian Federal Government’ s Growth Acceleration Program ( PAC) to begin operating. Its total investment totals R$ 16 bi l l ion, R$ 1 . 6 bi l l ion of which is directed at social-environmental actions.

When it begins operating, the Santo Antônio HPP will be Brazil’s third largest plant

World Water Day: Attitudes Make all the Difference

esident of the Mata do Sossego Settlement, located in the Bahia municipal ity of

Igrapiúna, Manoel Cardoso cares for several different plantations, such as guarana, c love and rubber trees, among others, and sti l l works as a community health agent. However, the river source located on his property is what motivates him to strengthen his role as a citizen each day: “I understand the importance of conserving it and I do this, primari ly to contribute toward many people’s wel l being,” he said.

Cardoso is right. The water that flows from his source – the Vargido River, tributary of the Jul iana River Watershed – continues on to

the Pancada Grande Waterfal l , which is located in the Pratigi Environmental Protection Area ( EPA ) , with a drop of 65 meters and surrounded by dense vegetation. From the waterfal l , the tributary flows unti l the border between the municipal ities of Igrapiúna and Ituberá, ending in the estuarine region, where the main production activities include fishing and aquiculture. “I feel that I am one of those responsible for ensuring that the river always completes this path, ” said the farmer happi ly.

When the topic is water conservation, Cardoso serves as an example. In order to continue promoting actions l ike those of the farmer, the United Nations General Assembly designated

Since then, initiatives have been promoted al l over the world. One of these establ ishes 2013 as the International Year of Water Cooperation. In Brazi l , the campaign was launched by the United Nations Educational , Scientific and Cultural Organization (UN ESCO)

together with the Secretary of the International Hydrological Program in December of last year.

To maintain his contributive spirit related to the environment, Cardoso was invited by the Land Conservation Organization ( OCT) team to become part of the Payment for Environmental Services project ( PSA - Water) . R EU S I NG WAT E RThanks to the start of the

operations and two major projects – Aquapolo and Água Viva ( Bahia Basic Raw Material Unit project ) , Braskem estimates that it wi l l increase its average water reuse rate to 36 % in 2013 . Together and operating at maximum capacity, the two initiatives wi l l generate 2, 000 cubic meters of water per hour. The benefits extend beyond saving drinking water, since they help reduce the use of chemical products during the water treatment process and also al low for a lower impact on the water resources in the regions where the projects are implemented.

During its first phase, Água Viva wi l l increase the use of recycled water at the unit where it is being instal led by nearly 140 l iters per second. Aquapolo, which fal ls under the responsibi l ity of Foz and SABESP ( São Paulo State Basic

66

Sanitation Company) , currently suppl ies Braskem with nearly 1 ,000 cubic meters of reuse water per hour, reaching more than 90% of the total resource used. Inaugurated in November 2012, Aquapolo is the largest water treatment project for industrial use in Latin America and is equipped to supply

other industries in the Capuava Petrochemical Center, located in the greater São Paulo Area.

Increasing the volume of recycled water used is one of Braskem’ s initiatives al igned with its commitment to sustainable development, involving not just final products, but the entire

production process. In 2012, the company reduced its effluent generation by 11% ; water consumption by 6%; and energy consumption by 2%, further improving its ecoefficiency rates, which were already considered a reference in the Brazi l ian chemical industry. “Growing

sustainably, with a focus on excel lence in the areas of health, safety and environment, is one of the company’ s strategic guidel ines, ” explained Jorge Soto, Sustainable Development Director at Braskem. For 2013 , there are other initiatives being planned to help reduce the use of natural resources, ” he said.

The Água Viva project is considered the largest water reuse system for industry in Bahia and will supply the Camaçari Industrial Center

A New Species of LizardThe surveys of wildl ife of the Chaglla Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP)

construction area in Peru – the first Odebrecht Energia international investment – have official ly discovered new species of l izard, Stenocercus chinchaoensis , for science.

The species was discovered in the region of the forest located near the Huallaga River, which is 420 km from Lima, where the plant is being installed. The scientific name is a tribute to Chincao District, where the animal was found.

With an investment of US$ 1.2 bi l l ion, the Chaglla HPP has an installed capacity of 456 MW, enough to supply four mil l ion inhabitants, helping contribute toward the diversification of Peru’s energy matrix and increasing the availabil ity of energy to meet the growing demand in the country.

The development, which should begin operating in 2016, is considered an example of maximum energy efficiency and reduction of the social-environmental impact. The plant is considered one of the largest in terms of electric energy generation in Peru.

The discovery of the species was featured in the magazine Zootaxa, a scientific publication devoted to the description of new species

Evolution of Environmental Indicators

Braskem presented a considerable improvement in its Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) indicators in 2012. With relation to 2011, the petrochemical company reduced its effluent generation by 11%, water consumption by 6% and energy consumption by 2%. The rates are below average for the chemical industry in Brazil .

The consolidated results over the past 10 years – starting with the company’s foundation in 2002 – demonstrate a reduction in the generation of solid waste and effluents by 61% and 39%, respectively. Energy consumption was reduced by 11%. The average annual water consumption was 4.23 cubic meters per ton of product produced, a positive rate compared to the global chemical industry average of 25.9 cubic meters.

The actions designed

to make the company a global leader in sustainable chemistry earned Braskem a place in the first portfolio of the Dow Jones Sustainabil ity Emerging Markets Index in February of this year. The index belongs to the New York Stock Exchange. Besides this, from its very first edition, company has also been a member of the BM&FBovespa Corporate Sustainabil ity Index (ISE) portfolio, which gathers the shares of 37 companies considered to be a reference in sustainabil ity.

“The numbers reflect Braskem’s positioning, which is based on innovating to better serve people,” said Jorge Soto, Sustainable Development Director. Dow Jones’ recognition attests to the commitment to sustainable development through good corporate governance practices and social and environmental responsibil ity,” he said.

Raising Awareness for Health Care

During World Leprosy Week, the Social Responsibi l ity, Communication and Occupational Medicine teams from the Rio de Janeiro Metropol itan Arch promoted an awareness raising action for the local community and Members.

More than 300 homes and commercial sites in Amapá, the neighborhood located next to the construction site, were visited by the teams, which distributed folders and alerted about the importance of seeking medical care in suspected cases of leprosy. The prevention and fight

against alcohol ism were also part of the initiative. The work was undertaken by 150 Odebrecht Infraestrutura Members through internal campaigns on March 26.

“Early diagnosis is very important for the treatment of leprosy,” explained Dr. Francisco Mourão, the Metropol itan Arch Occupational Physician. “We alerted about the main symptoms of the disease, primari ly the spots on the body without any sensitivity, the types of transmission and medical treatment,” said Mourão.
