Medical Education

• Assisted in creating welcome letters to newly admitted students to Sidney Kimmel (Jefferson) and PCOM: 38 in all this year

• Partnered on 2 receptions for DIMER students:

• New DIMER grads from medical school (May 2018)

• DE Branch Campus students in 2nd and 3rd years (Aug 2018)

• In partnership with DIMER, planning at least one opportunity each in Kent & Sussex County a year, to increase qualified DIMER applicants (event in Jan 2019)

August 2018 Reception

• Making it more attractive for DIMER students to return as physicians to serve Delaware

• DIMER partnership can be leveraged to create deeper connections with students and residents

• DE health systems can be hubs for recruiting DIMER grads through connections which start in med school

• Plan a statewide DE Recruitment Day in partnership with all health systems and DIMER for those nearing end of residency

• Created workgroup with leadership from all 4 institutions

• Linked DHSA social media accounts to each of the institutions• Opportunity to highlight efforts that align with DHSA priorities

Research that matters to Delaware

• Our emphasis on a statewide research strategy resulted in successful NIH grant (2013-2018) and its renewal (2018-2023)

– ACCEL program includes all DE DHSA members + Delaware State Univ. + numerous others as part of Community Advisory Committee

• With many other groups providing research funding (ACCEL, INBRE, etc.), in 2019 DHSA will focus on high-impact pilot funding for population health

• Host a Shark Tank event April 2019, with AM being presentation of pop health innovations and PM being 20-minute pitches x 5

– Winner receives $50,000 per year funding

Global & Community Health

• Those with interest in global & community health are twice as likely to work in under-served communities where they train

• DHSA has hosted 5 consecutive GH Symposia, linking key faculty from all 4 institutions.

• Helped create CCHS Global Health Residency tracks (many DHSA volunteer speakers), x-pollination for UD courses (public health, global health, anthropology), UD Plastino advisors, and TJU global health group participants

• All global health track grads (2014-18) from Family Medicine and Medicine/Pediatrics practice clinical primary care

Engagement of Affiliates

• Every Delaware health system has a stake in Delaware’s health future

• DHSA is interested in partnering on areas of mutual interest such as DIMER, workforce/recruitments, and community engagement

• Meetings with DHA health system partners in 2017-18:

– St. Francis Hospital

– Nanticoke Heath Services
