Director’s Note We’re all familiar with THAT feeling at bedtime…the itch that needs to be scratched, the raging thirst that needs to be quenched RIGHT NOW, the mystery and possibility of a dark room filled with real and imagined friends, the irrefutable knowledge that the second we fall asleep we’ll miss something amazing. You’ll recognize the world that has been created here — don’t you practically know the book by heart? (And doesn’t it only take a few seconds to read?)

Theater is collaborative — big, fat duh. Words, intent, mise-en-scène and someone to play to are all necessary to create a meaningful theater experience. I’ve known that for years; you’ve probably known it for years. And over the years I’ve been privileged to work with many wonderful theater artists. But with this particular show, with this particular company, that particular lesson has been brought home again and again. This production would not have been possible without the tireless work (on top of steady jobs and family life, no less) of so many. And they did it joyfully, generously and with enviable creativity.  I thank them all. — Deane Shellman, May 2012

Goodnight Moon
