When their seasons wind down, several nationally-famous circuses head for Hugo, Oklahoma, located in Choctaw County. A wintering ground for circuses since 1942, the city even has a special cemetery area reserved for performers, employees, and owners of circus operations. Plans are underway in Hugo to build a museum to honor the circuses that have made southeast Oklahoma their off-season home.
