[Okinawa] Cactus Ridge - Japanese outposts. Setup order 1 x8 2 x4 3 x16 4 x9 5 x1 6 x9 7 x8 Uchitomari Cactus Ridge Ginowan Mashiki Oyama Historical Background After the landing without any opposition on Okinawa, the US troops advanced to the north with the 3rd Amphibious corps (US Marines) and to the south with the XXIVth Army Corps (US Infantry). On the 5th of April, the 96th Infantry Division was delayed by a line of Japanese outposts north of Uchitomari and was under heavy fire. The Japanese were entrenched on several hills. One of them, called "Cactus Ridge" by the Americans was defended by units of the 13th Independent Infantry Battalion with machine-guns, mortars and 47mm anti-tank guns and protected by barbed wire and minefield. Three days were needed to the 2nd battalion, 383rd Infantry to capture Cactus Ridge. But for US troops, it was only the beginning of a long battle. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history. Briefing Axis player [Japan] : 5 command cards. Special Rules - Use "Japanese Imperial Army" rules (Nations 3). - Special Weapon Asset rules (SWAs 4) are in effect for units equipped with anti-tank guns, mortars and machine-guns (SWAs 5, 6 & 7). - Use "Combat Engineer" rules for the three units with engineer badge (Troop 4). - Use "Sniper" rules (Troop 10) to the Japanese infantry unit with a single figure. - Use "Flame Thrower" rules for tanks units with badge (Troop 13). - The Japanese player lays out the minefields (Terrains 29). - Use "Cave on Hills" rules (Terrains 52).
