Lake Okeechobee is rising. The lake is over 13 1/2 feet and still rising. We were quite fortunate that we didn’t experience any high

winds so the lake is basically unharmed. We fished the North end this morning and found that the wa-ter was still clear and the bass were still where we caught them last week. The early morning bite is still key to catching numbers. We started with spinner baits and then switched over to plastics. Flipping and pitching into the weed patches and reed clumps is still productive. The tips of the Kis-simmee Grass are barely sticking out of the water in most spots and the bait is still frequenting the outside edge which will keep the bass there too. The Kissimmee River current is very strong from the inflow. The river water is carrying a lot of sedi-ment and silt with it so visibility is a little poor. It

may take a few weeks for the flowing water to clear and when it does there will be bass chasing and eating shad and small minnows that get washed along by the current.

The moon is full as I write this, and I fully expect that there are areas around the lake where blue gill and shell cracker can be found bedding. Crickets, red worms and grass shrimp will help you catch a nice mess of panfish for the frying pan.
