Do the sixth grade chorus students get to perform?

YES! There are 3 performances for Sixth Grade Chorus members: Fall Concert in November Music Performance Assessment in

March Spring Concert in May Additionally, interested students can participate in our Twin Cities Solo and Ensemble Festival in April.

Can 6th grade students participate in both Chorus and Band?

YOU CAN BE IN BOTH RUCKEL CHORUS AND RUCKEL BAND! Simply fill out a PE waiver, and sign up for the musical electives YOU WANT!

COME WITH US

Chorus is a class that meets every day. Students in chorus class learn to read music: finding the notes on the staff, deciphering rhythms, time signatures, scales, key signatures. Students learn to use healthy tone production while balancing and blending with others in the class. No prior experience is necessary to be in the 6th

Grade Ruckel Chorus. Boys and Girls are placed in either 3rd or 4th Period Classes, depending on the other academics in their schedule.

All Ruckel Choruses have received Straight Superior Ratings (the highest rating) at the State-Sponsored Music Performance Assessments for the past 5 years. Ruckel Chorus has had more All County Chorus students than any other school in the county, and more representatives at the All-State Convention than any other school in the state, for the past 4 years, sending 27 to sing in the All State Treble and Mixed Choruses this past January. The auditioned Choruses, CHANSON and AMBASSADORS take a performance trip every two years, with May, 2018 being our year to sing at Disney.

Sixth Grade students who do well in the Chorus Classes, and wish to advance, can audition for one of three 7th-8th

Grade Choruses at Ruckel: CHANSON (all girls’ TREBLE Chorus); AMBASSADORS (boys and girls mixed 7th-8th Grade Chorus); TAPESTRY (boys and girls 7th-8th Grade Intermediate Chorus). Annually in March, sixth grade students are given the list of Competencies necessary to move into the next level of Choral musicianship.

QUESTIONS

Do 6th Grade Chorus Members have to rehearse after school?

Not usually! Three after school rehearsals are set for 3 weeks prior to the Music Performance Assessment in March. The calendar is always set way in advance!

Is there an expense involved with participating in Chorus at Ruckel?

There is a uniform rental, as all our choruses perform in Concert Formal Uniforms.
