Through this experience i learned a lot, I learn to be more patient in every task that given to me even though it is hard and you don’t like it. I also experience how to operate a Xerox copier at first i don’t know how to use it but hen one of the employees taught me how to operate it, i have fun on it after all. :) I also experience to answer their phone calls, the funny thing with that is every time i answer the phone, the caller will look one of the employee, then I’ll just shout their names, then who ever came

OJT or On-Job-Training is the activity of the students wherein they are trained or prepared to a certain job or career. It is also a requirement of a course before graduation. The students are assigned in different branches of government of private offices wherein they are assigned or perform their work to prepare and exposed themselves to a chosen career.

I have my OJT in DAR or Department of Agrarian Reform located at Amado Lim Bldg., Roxas Avenue, Roxas City. At first I feel so nervous and excited as well, it was hard for me to interact with them, come to think of it, they were professionals and I’m just a student trainee. I just trained myself to act like a professional like them so that it will be easy for me to work with them. As time goes by, i found myself working harmoniously with them, the employees there was so nice and good to me and they treat each other as a family.

In my first day of my OJT, I feel so nervous as I enter the office, the OIC of the Operation Division orient me their rules and regulations and their dress code as well, She also assigned me to assist Ma’am Leah Ubierna and Ma’am Luisa Bofill. I have experience new environment, new acquaintances who are professionals and every task that given to me. The most unforgettable and the hardest thing I’ve experienced is when Ma’am Leah ask me to segregate those past documents (Lot Data Computation) by municipalities then after it I’ll segregate it by barangay’s, do you know what’s the hardest part of it? It is when I list down all the Lot Data Computations of each barangay in every municipalities here in the province of Capiz, imagined it there’s a lot of barangay’s and municipality here in the province of capiz, do you think you can do it alone? woohhh.. It was my first time but Thanks to GOD he gave me enough strength finishes my task. Through this experience i learned a lot, I learn to be more patient in every task that given to me even though it is hard and you don’t like it. I also experience how to operate a Xerox copier at first i don’t know how to use it but hen one of the employees taught me how to operate it, i have fun on it after all. :) I also experience to answer their phone calls, the funny thing with that is every time i answer the phone, the caller will look one of the employee, then I’ll just shout their names, then who ever came in the table to get the phone, I’ll just remembering their faces then listed and memorize their names so that next time i already know them, funny to think but i learn a lot. :)

I learn a lot of things in my OJT, some of it I adopt and apply to myself and some of it helps develop my skills and enhance my knowledge. I was so thankful that I have my OJT in this office. I learn to be more patient in every task that given to me, to be nice and humble in every person I interact and most of all to LOVE MY WORK.

Just LOVE YOUR WORK and surely YOU WILL ENJOY it. Believe me YOU WILL ENJOY IT. :)

MAY GOD BLESS US ALL!!!

It’s been a week since I started my On-the-Job training here at Likha Internet Inc./WOWBatangas.com. Far from being a student, my daily routine has been changed into something unusual for me. I have to wake up early in the morning, prepare myself for the long day ahead, and give out the best upon my working hours.

I will be working here for 300 hours; it may take a month and a half, and I’m just on my day. And within those seven days I already learned a lot of things, more than what I expected. I came to realize the importance of on-the-job training (OJT) to a students’ life. Aside from the training that I got, it’s the experience and learning that I acquired and will be gaining for the upcoming days which made it more essential.

Lucky indeed for me to be able to choose the best company that do things which are absolutely related to my chosen field, and the best thing about them, they love to share everything that they can give, without any hesitation.

But not all OJTs are as lucky as I am. Not all have a wonderful experience, and that’s the bitter truth. Sometimes some are hired just to do some sort of stuff, worst of all, is when they’re tasked to do things which are not totally related to their course. It became worst in the sense that they will never have the chance to grow, to explore and discover themselves, and to gain experiences which will serve as their guidance in stepping into the real world and the opportunity to have the best experience that every trainee wished to have become unreachable for them. The training ground that was expected to prepare them for the future became a burden for their development.

We can always make our OJT meaningful and fruitful through doing things that procures satisfaction to us. Everything that we do must develop our potential and allow us to reach our objectives. It’s accomplishing every task with all our hearts and having the initiative to strive harder to learn and seek for more.

OJT is more than what it means. It’s the set of training, learning and the most important ingredients of all, the experience. Just like what a famous quote says, “Experience is the best teacher”. And nothing compares to the knowledge that it can give to us. It may be hard at first, but once we learn to appreciate and love what we’re doing, it became easier and easier every day.

HEY say that nothing beats experience, as my professor would say, as the perfect learning tool. For some students, on-the-job training gives them a taste of the real world–a glimpse of what lies ahead after they graduate.

These students share what they learned from their on-the-job training experiences, from a few tricks of the trade and bittersweet lessons, to the life principles they can live by.

“One of the most important things I’ve learned is that talent alone is not enough. It is important, but it is no guarantee of success. One must also be hardworking and should practice self-discipline. Sacrifice is important, too

"I have lots of memorable experiences. One is traveling. In my line of work, I usually travel to different countries for inspiration or ideas for new designs. I attend different kinds of training and meetings with clients and investors.

“I learned to sacrifice a lot of things; I hardly have time for anything else. Even on weekends, I’m in the office. Start with what you know, and remove the unknown. Simply put, begin at the beginning and then work on how to solve the problems one at a time.”—Karla Motol, 21, Multimedia Arts, Asia Pacific College

“I learned it’s best to do and show your best. Ask your boss if they have some work for you to do. You never know; they might hire you after the internship or in the future. I think studying is harder than working, though; the real world is easier than college.”—Karen Edina O. Espiritu, 20, Advertising Arts, Far Eastern University

Being diplomatic

“I learned through experience how to interact and communicate with people. Knowing how to handle and tackle different issues and still be diplomatic in both action and words is important. The whole experience of going to another country and facing issues that need to be addressed was quite memorable. Also, I was able to get a glimpse of how the United Nations works when I met new people during the trip.

“It will be so exciting in the ‘real’ world, being independent and figuring things out on your own. This also means having to deal with different people more often, so it is really good to know what you’re doing, and to love it. All we can do as students is to learn whatever we can in school, be inspired, love the path we take, and finally do our best in everything we do, with a positive outlook in mind.” —Randy Ailemi Valdez, 19, International Studies under the track of International Politics, with a Minor of Peace Studies, Miriam College

THINGS I LEARNED FROM THE OJT EXPERIENCE

During my On the Job Training I learned a lot. I learned how to communicate and understand customer service especially in food and beverage department. I have many chances of applying all I've learn in my Alma matter, Bulacan State University. I became more responsible about regulations and follow every standard they have. I reminded myself that I'm not here to be lazy, but I'm here to prove myself I have an edge in this industry. I have realized that being punctual is more important than being industrious. For showing that you have that eagerness in the job you’re in, is being like you owned it.

I have been a food attendant in both Hotels I've been into, The CAVA Bar and Restaurant and The Escolta. Waking up early is just so hard to do; changing schedules from AM shift to PM shift too. I learned to boost my confidence and pay attention to attend guest needs for they are the reason why a hotel is operating.

Your experiences with the people you worked with.

In the beginning, working with people you have just first met is something different and something that is hard inside. Hard inside that you can't say anything or do anything that you are usually saying because the near fact that you might offend them or they may think you’re rude. On my experience I have become an observant and a listener to the people I worked with. As days goes on, friendship and understanding with each other is built. I have worked with different people with different kinds of attitude and behavior. One of the most kinds I encounter is those who are jolly and friendly. They are the ones that will help you give your who you are. They will ask you many questions - personal, biodata, past experiences and they will also share some of theirs. As a trainee you will never avoid those who are strict and what they popularly called kill joys. Sometimes you may handle them but sometimes you'll just want to avoid them. They are those co-workers that is more of standard operations. But though they are like that I assure you'll learn more from them.

The most memorable event during OJT

It happened at the CAVA Bar and Restaurant. The most memorable event is the week until Christmas Party. All staffs are in their like no once operating the hotel. Everyone prepare something as a production number but with a prize and we won the first place. It is quite enjoying though I'm not that good in dancing. All the staffs are happy and cooperate in every game organizers have held. After the program we have the raffle. We as trainees didn't expect we're included. But after they announced we have something. That's why I choose this event.

What to recommend in improving OJT program

I have only one thing to suggest in this training program. Because as I can see and encountered from fellow trainees from different schools especially in Manila. They have this partnership with different hotels that they only allow their students to have their duties because some students have done their OJT in some not that in standard hotels or restaurants. Also for the sake of the University we have to

Page 5: OJT Learnings

provide these students the good standards that may improve all they have learned in school. This will be a big factor not only in each students but the whole State University.

Possible advice to future OJT trainees

First of all welcome to the Hospitality Industry fellow Hoteliers. Being a HRM student you must know how to be naturally happy person because sometimes guests don't only seek for the food you serve but the service you provide. Be an observant of what your environment have and don't tolerate bad deeds inside the hotel. Be productive and don't complain at some point that you are commanded by your supervisors because they know how to reward you as you work hard. Show enthusiasm enough at work to boost all your co-workers eagerness. Because they will get embarrass that you as a trainee is more energetic than them who work for income. Lastly be graceful.

Having my OJT at UPITTC (UP Information Technology Training Center) is really good.With this OJT *I've learned a lot of things such as;

*I gain more knowledge about troubleshooting

*I learned more on how to reformat PC

*I learned how to clone using CLONEZILLA and how does it work

*I learned something also in UBUNTU (how to remove password using terminal, how to connect printer through networking), I learned how to remove password of the router and many more.

*I learned how to install OS in Virtual Box

*I gain more knowledge about Google calendar, docs and form

*I learned how to fix internet connection (if there are problems that might encounter)

*I learned how to use SOFT PHONE(X-LITE)

*I learned how to use SMARTBOARD

*I learned how to do dual booting and many more. :)

UPITTC is a big help to us OJT's, because of them we've learned a lot of things not only in software but also in hardware (technical support). I enjoyed my OJT in UPITTC, because all our supervisors are kind, they are patient, mapagbiro, but one thing is for sure they are the best supervisors that we've met and "nakasama" for almost four months, they trained us to provide the essential skills that we need to perform our job in the future. Thanks a lot to our supervisors because of them I've learned a lot.

I experienced a lot of things in my OJT such as being an independent, being responsible to do our task that our supervisors give to us, to be able to learned and gain new things and new knowledge, to be able to mingle and know more about our supervisors, and to be able to improve my skills.

Page 7: OJT Learnings

During my OJT I've learned and experienced how hard and difficult it was being a Registrar in school. So many paper works and can't finish in one day. Parents and students are asking and inquiring about some academics question and the status of their son/daughters. Registrar is not that easy as we thought. He only gave me a work that I can easily finished and understand. Luckily, I have my OJT here in STI because all the staff and employees here are friendly and very nice to be with. Despite of the many efforts, trials and hardships exerted during my training, I would like to dedicate all my accomplishments and success to our Almighty God for His many blessings showered upon me, to my loving parents for their moral and financial supports, to STI College-Tacloban Family. for giving me the chance to share and dedicate my ideas and learning I earned in school, to the STI College-Tacloban as my very foundation in molding my abilities and knowledge in relation to office and computer works, to my co-trainees who became part of my daily activities in my on-the-job training, to my board mates and friends who were always there to give me their comforting words and advises to work hard and better, training the interns, employers are in fact also teach their employees to guide the trainees by stretching their patience, develop teaching skills and make them more sensitive to the needs and mind set of the younger generation. The course of supervision also teaches them how to share what they know and be receptive to questions. Hence, the internship also becomes an avenue in training for future being successful someday.

ONE OF A KIND

In my 150 hours of OJT in ABS-CBN, I saw different creatures, with different faces and different personalities. I can say that all of them are really head turner. With their nice clothes, fine make-ups, and expensive shoes plus the fact that they are employee of a prestigious network station, everyone will surely notice them. I got the chance to know some of them and to work with them.

But there is this simple woman, with simple face, clothes, shoes, bags, umbrella and cellphone. Everything is simple. You will barely notice her for her simplicity. Even her dreams and happiness are also simple. Maybe she doesn’t even know the word lavish, extravagant etc. what will make you draw near to her is her kindness and beliefs in life. I am talking of no other than my immediate head, Ms. Jovy Lacusong.

Ms. Jovy is one of a kind woman though simple; she is very kind, a good mother and a faithful and sweet wife to her seaman husband. She has a pure heart. She is a very god fearing person. She is generous and very slow to anger. Sometimes I get amazed of how is she able to be like that.

In my stay in abscbn, Ms. Jovy became my constant companion. We talked a lot. We share stories about our lives. We exchange opinions about some issues. She is almost a mother to me. Onetime, she told me about her grievances about her department. She wants another media placer like her to share some of her loads in the office. She has point. She does so many things. She even sleeps in the office just to finish her tasks. She voiced it out once but she was never heard. I can feel that she is not enjoying her job. I asked her why I can’t see any anger in her towards her boss in their department and she will always tell me that her works might be unnoticed here, but she knows that God never sleeps. Ms. Jovy will tell me that she always prays for them and that her request will one day be granted. What a nice person she is.

Before I forget, Ms jovy is my church mate. We see each other every Sunday. I was lucky to have the chance to be trained by her. I was happy to meet someone as good and as nice as Ms. Jovy.

How I wish, you can meet her too.

Page 9: OJT Learnings

SERIOUS IS BORING

Boring is defined as something that is uninteresting, dull, monotonous, and that is how I define the department where I was assigned, if ask. There is no other trainee there. I am the only one, but that idea doesn’t make me happy. No one to talk to, no one to share some comments or what I was going through in that place. When my head is not yet there, all I do is to work, work, and work!

I’m a jolly person. I am fond of talking. I am a very opinionated person.I can’t shut my mouth for a minute. It fills like dying for me if I don’t talk. Something is not right if I stay quiet. It’s never normal when I don’t give comments into something whether they are big or small issue. That’s why when I was assigned in CCM and I am in the situation wherein seriousness is a necessity. It is a requirement. I find it boring! I hate it. And I found myself not enjoying there.

Enjoyment is a must for me when I am faced with tasks. My energy is immediately drained when I am not enjoying something. I can’t work properly. I can’t stay for long. But because I am obliged to have an OJT and that is ABSCBN. Is there any reason for me to be choosy and leave the place?

But I know God will sustain my energy. He will be the one who will give me happiness and reasons to enjoy this work. With him, I know I can do all things. With God by my side, is there any reason for me to give up?

Page 10: OJT Learnings

Saying goodbye..

At last, my 150 hour OJT at ABS CBN is over! I really hate the feeling of having to fight my sleepiness. I hate it when I take the MRT that is crowded of people; we almost have an exchange of faces. And the feeling of having to get along with those different creatures in our department is finally over!!!!

But don't get me wrong, having my on the job training at ABS CBN is really a privilege to me. It is one of the most prestigious station here in the Philippines. Being trained there for my future job is really one of a kind and it is something to be proud of. And the kindness and generosity of my head added to this lucky experience.

Ms. Jovy taught me almost everything she knows. Let me mention some of those:

I learned to place plugs in Tambayan (ABS - CBN's FM radio station.)

I know now that placing plugs in DZMM, ABS - CBN's AM radio Station is complicated.

I have experienced to have a recording of one of the plugs.

I learned how to cross plugs, or how to put radio plugs in their TV programs.

I learned to use the microwave oven. :)

I learned to be patient especially when it comes to uwian time!

i have realized that food helps you when you feel sleepy, just be ready for a heavier you, :)

Well everything i learned is really cool. I wished that my experience with this OJT will help me cope up with the new and real world that is approaching in just few months. I'm really excited! The thought of graduation and having a job makes me really thrilled but at the same time afraid and nervous just as the bible say:

"I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." So help me God.

Page 11: OJT Learnings

MEET THE CCM FAMILY.

“Why be normal when you can be spectacular?”

That is the tagline of the CCM family. Creative Communication Management, CCM, is a department of ABS-CBN wherein the promotion of all their programs, whether in movie, in television or in radio, starts. The employees there are the one responsible of how a certain program will be promoted. They think of taglines that will make appeal to the Filipino viewers and listeners.

Creativity and playfulness is a must quality there if you want to be a part of their family. Your mind should be full of imagination and you should be an observer. You should be sensitive of what the people want to hear or see so it will retain to their minds and be curious with the upcoming programs.

Here are some of the samples of taglines being produced by CCM:

“Star ng pasko, Run run run for Pasig, Ako ang simula ng pagbabago, AKO mismo, One big fight, and a lot more.

CCM’s ambition is to become the hottest media branding idea shop in Asia.

GOODLUCK CCM! I will miss you!

Page 12: OJT Learnings

My first week.

My OJT started March 5, 2011 and ended March 25, 2011. For 3 weeks that I’ve been working, I can say that I have learned a lot of new things, not just in the field of Broadcast Communication but also what the “real life” really is. My first week in OJT was a bit nerve-wracking but then again exciting. I miss the feeling that I was going to have this kind of activity. Luckily, I had my OJT again at ABS-CBN.

On the early part of my OJT, I was assigned at the News and Current Affairs Division, Patrol ng Pilipino. I am under the supervision of Ms. Dona Cueto and her researchers. It was all new experience for me and I was truly astonished. I also met Ms. Rachel, Ms. Charmaine, Ms. Denise, Ms. Lea, Kuya Jet, Sir Jay, Kuya Rowwel, Kuya Egay, Kuya Onyok, Kuya Antony and Sir Don. All of them have different personality. They are warm and willing to share their knowledge. At first, I felt awkward but lately I learned how to mingle with these people. I was immediately able to cope up to the new environment I have.

There I got some experience which I will treasure in my entire life.

I saw a building being demolished and I got some pictures with it. I saw big machineries crashing down into pieces a building. By the way, the building that I am pertaining to is the building that is inside the area of ABS-CBN. It was fun for me because I am the kind of lady who is enjoying such adventurous things. I was also forced to have 12 hours of OJT everyday but sometimes it took me 14 hours on my OJT. I must make things on rush because the deadline for the submission of papers for our OJT is at hand and if I’m going to be relaxed, I will not be able to make it till the end. By then, I woke up 6 in the morning just to catch up my schedule at 8 and will be going home at 9 in the evening. It is really tiring but then again I am enjoying what I am doing. It is a combination of rhythm and melody. Rhythm because I must manage my time in order to cope up some instances that might occur. Melody because I must manage my energy and money for my OJT is a great challenge that I must have in order to grow as a professional.

Page 13: OJT Learnings

My 10th day

My 2nd week on my OJT was still a haggard one for me. The things happen again and again but I am not frustrated about it. I still love to go to my OJT because it is an everyday experience of mine. Every single day is a new expectation, experimentation and exploration. I enjoyed what I am doing and I will never get mad doing these things.

I was able to experience how to cover news about a building in a fire. It was too dangerous for me but then again I was too excited how it will end. It was my first time to be too close in that situation. We ran here, we ran there. I got wet and my shoes too but that doesn’t matter. I just bought new slippers in order for me to have foot garment.

After that, we went to a house of a survivalist. I forgot his name. We interviewed him about the things you should do and you should have when a disaster arrived. He showed us some of his gadgets and five us some tips on how are we going to survive when there is a chaos.

I got amazed when he called his children and showed us well they trained in times of disaster. He has 4 children ages 11, 8, 6 and 4. Even his wife knows what to do when there is a catastrophe happened.

The interview with that man had been an eye opener not only to me but to the whole group.

I learned that we should value life and we should always be prepared especially now. We should always expect the unexpected.

Page 14: OJT Learnings

The last days.

My last days on my OJT were memorable for me. I have learned so many things. There includes the Transcription of Interviews, enhancement of my convincing power, etc. Also, I was able to budget my time, energy and money at the same time. I was bonded with different people of different kind and I admire most of them especially the stories of their lives. I learned how to act with speed and urgency with minimal errors, not missing any single details. I enjoyed so much the field where I was involved with and it has given me some of the best teachers in experience.

The first thing that comes to mind is the people. Broadcast Communication naturally deals with people. They work day and night, so many interviewers and interviewees, from different places and kind. They never seem to rest, and being an intern, I’m part of these influxes of people who work hard and can’t seem to rest.

In terms of the “real life” experience, I can say that the “happy-go-lucky-life” is so much easier and definitely a whole lot more fun. I really didn’t believe the principle that going to school is better than working. Now, I totally believe it. I’m not saying that I won’t be working in the future, but I guess I must be prepared enough to face the challenges of the “real life”. The “real life” is very routinely, and this “real life” that we’re living now involves riding the dreaded MRT every morning, which I experience most of the time that I will be going to my OJT. There is something about the “real life” that is very strenuous --- emotionally, mentally, and physically. I don’t know why but it just is. The good thing about work is the achievement, the payment, and of course, the better thing about it is that I got to meet new friends.

OJT’s have always been one of the most enjoyable and exciting moments of college days. I’ve been through to a lot of great experiences in my days. So OJT is over, but the learning experiences will continue.

Page 15: OJT Learnings

NATURE OF WORK

•Training on basic illustration.

•Training on basic design/layout and recreating advertisements for Valley Yellow Pages.

• Help in VYP and UFPB production as a vector artist.

OJT Observations on areas for improvement

I’ve learned a lot of things in just 200 hours of on the job training but I’ve noticed that there are still other things that I have to improve one of it is my verbal communication. Though I have this enough confidence yet there are times that I’m having a hard time on expressing myself , my thought with others because I don’t exactly know how am I going to say it in a way that the listener could easily understand it and get my point.

OJT learning experience

It was a fun learning experience. I’ve became more knowledgeable when it comes to creating professional looking and high standard design layouts for different advertisements. I have experienced how to work under pressure. Since ASEC ASIA INC. gave me the opportunity to show my talent in graphics designing everyday seems to be full of learning! I was exposed in different graphic editing programs .it enhances my skills in creating layouts. It was really awesome experience! I have also attended some meetings/seminar together with some of the best graphic artist in advertising industry. I also got the chance to work with some foreigners .I didn’t know how come I was able to adopted the lifestyle in corporate world. People that I worked with are really amazing! They’re so professional! And aside from that I’ve become more sociable with different kinds of people. I have met a lot of friends some are Indians, Australians, and Americans. While in the working area I was able to show my respect from high positioned personnel until the lowest one like security guards and utilities .I’m very careful about creating a good impression with others knowing that I’m not just using my name but also the name of my school. And there is one more that I am really proud of!!! I could say that now I became more punctual. I am no longer having a problem about time management. Now it’s easier for me to determine the task that needs prioritization. If I’m going to look back on what I am before I could say that now I am someone that is more competent. I’m more open minded .I accept critic’s opinions and consider it as a positive way of giving myself a motivation to become better. I have come to realized that being a versatile graphic artist was a huge challenge because of the fast moving design trends. I am pushing myself forward into someone that could be not just a vector artist but also to be someone that is really good in different forms of art.

This training experienced helped me to know and understand that Art is what I really love! This 200 hours of training experience was like a magic! It captured my interest in field of advertising! I am now ready to work and face the world of advertising!
