Oiltech developed the Tubular Management Systems for a desert application in 2009. Therig was fairly standard; the difference was the Well plan whereby wells where spaced at4 metres apart arranged in 2 straight lines (parallel) about 1 km in length. This was avery cost effective solution to service the field and, with horizontal drilling the field ofaround 15km in diameter could be serviced. The MPU (Mobile Pipehandler Unit) is arectangular frame in a ‘goalpost’ section to which enables the frame to travel over thetop of the BOP’s on active wells. The PTC (Pipe Transfer Conveyor) was mounted on topof the MPU and was inclined so that the front end sits on the Drillfloor. A Tailing Arm wasadded to the end of the PTC to provide safe handling onto Drillfloor.

Automation and Zone ManagementIn 2012 we received a repeat order for 4 similar systems, however these new systemsrequired semi-automation of functions and zonal management, effectively our PTC’sneeded to talk to the drillers ZMS and prevent any equipment clashes and prevent anypersonnel safety issues. This involved providing a bespoke Hydraulic Power Unit withcomputer and positional detection on all functions and dual controls (remote and station).

Racking boards

Oiltech Racking boards are all weldedconstruction, designed to suit the dynamic and environmental loadings.They can be supplied with manual latches, pneumatically controlled or spear type (fully restraint).

HTV arm (Horizontal to Vertical)

Oiltech HTV arms are used for transferring tubulars from the horizontal to vertical position, presenting thetubular to the mousehole.

The HTV assembly is freestanding and will fit intomost derricks. The HTVarm is an essential part ofstandbuilding off-line.

Catwalk Machine

Oiltech’s Catwalk Machine canhandle up to 36” tubular (orseveral smaller tubulars)and transports the tubularfrom the loading position tothe well centre.

Cellar Deck Handling (Semis and Drillships)

The most common handling system on a semisubmersible is the BOP transporter,with sideways skidding and baseplate/treetrolley.

This system has the advantage of beingable to test the BOP in one piece.

Oiltech offer a consultancy service whereby we specifythe most cost effective systemwithin the physical constraintsof the rig and the clients budget.

Bespoke Cranes

It is often the case that a transporter system (previous page) is not suitable for the moonpool layout, or it may be necessary to UPGRADE the existing system; in some cases the transporter system may need to be replacedwith an overhead Crane, or overhead Cranes working in tandem. Oiltechoffer a consultancy service to provide the most cost effective solution.

Splashzone guidance

Oiltech provide a robust splashzone guidanceunit which is mounted on the underside of themoonpool and is telescopic. This system restrains the BOP whilst in the splashzone.

BOP Handling on a Jack-up or Land

The BOP on a Jack-up is lighterand the handling is often simpler.Oiltech provide a range of chainhoists, elevators and transportercranes.

TEMS The Tems concept was developed by the Oiltech team in 2008.It is a means of supplying an offshore drilling vessel for milder climatesand gentler sea conditions, while at the same time focusing on fullmechanisation of tubular handling..... one for the future.
