OILSEEDS- VISION-2020-21 IN TAMILNADU.

In Tamil Nadu, Oilseed crops

Normal area : 3.86 lakh ha

Normal Production : 9.04 lakh MT

Normal Productivity : 2,340 Kg/ha

Groundnut, Gingelly, Sunflower & Castor are Major Oilseed

crops.

Groundnut contribute 84 % area and 96 % production of

Oilseeds.

Gingelly is next important one which contributes 12 % area &

3% of production.

In Productivity, Tamil Nadu stands first at National level, since

Trend of Area:

Last 10 years, Oilseeds area has decreased from 4.95lakh ha to 3.93 lakh ha.

Production trend:

Production of Oilseeds are maintained in the sametrend of 9 lakh Mt. The main reason is enhancingthe productivity.

Last 10 years, Productivity is increased from1911 Kg/ ha to 2312 Kg/ha. (21%)
