Normal Productivity : 2,340 Kg/ha
Groundnut, Gingelly, Sunflower & Castor are Major Oilseed
crops.
Groundnut contribute 84 % area and 96 % production of
Oilseeds.
Gingelly is next important one which contributes 12 % area &
3% of production.
In Productivity, Tamil Nadu stands first at National level,since
2011-12.

1. Groundnut
The varieties namely Dharani, VRI 8, TMV 14, CO7, BSR 2 and ICGV 00350 may be promoted forless than 10 year old varieties.
All the above varieties are Bunch type and suitablefor all seasons.
Gujarath varieties namely GJG 9,GJG 31 and GJG 32are high yielding and prefered by farmers ofCuddalore, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai and Trichy districts.
Gujarath varieties may be introduced to otherdistricts on trial basis. Those varieties are highyielding and high oil content.

The varieties namely TMV 7, VRI 2, K 6, K 9 and JL 24are Popular varieties may be promoted for more than 10year old varieties.
TMV 7 is the farmers prefered variety , withstandintermittent drought, high yielding and high oil content &suitable for table purpose .
VRI 2 variety is also famous for table purpose & Burfypreparation. Bunch type & drought resistant.
JL 24 is bold seeded, prefered for Burfy.
K 6 & K 9 are less than 15 year varieties, suitable forrainfed and high yielding.
2. Gingelly
The varieties namely TMV (SV) 7 and VRI 3 may bepromoted for less than 10 year old varieties.
TMV (SV) 7 is high yielding ,suitable for all seasons andall districts.
VRI 3 is white seeded and suitable for irrigated condition.
The varieties namely TMV 3, TMV 4, VRI 2, VRI 1 andSVPR 1 are popular varieties among farmers and may bepromoted for more than 10 year old varieties.
TMV 3 is high yielding , tolerant to drought and suitablefor all seasons.
SVPR 1 prefered for white seeds and high oil contentalso.
Sunflower- The variety CO SFV 5 and hybrid COH 3 maybe promoted.
Castor- YRCH 1 & YRCH 2 varieties may be promoted.

Last 10 years, Oilseeds area has decreased from 4.95lakh ha to 3.93 lakh ha.
Production trend:
Production of Oilseeds are maintained in the sametrend of 9 lakh Mt. The main reason is enhancingthe productivity.
Last 10 years, Productivity is increased from1911 Kg/ ha to 2312 Kg/ha. (21%)
