Design Review is an independent assessmentof the project engineering phase that can besupplemented with independent analyses,performed by specialist engineers.

The safe design of all types of equipment, offshorefacilities (structures and topsides), onshore plants(from reneries to LNG terminals) and pipelines, instandard or extreme conditions (from desert to arcticenvironment), can be assessed through certication orverication schemes to suit client requirements.

Design Review

Classication is the appraisal of the level of complianceof a vessel to the rules set up by the class society.

Classication rules are developed to contribute to thestructural strength and integrity of essential parts of thehull, the safety and the reliability of the propulsion andsteering systems, and the effectiveness of essentialauxiliary systems of the ship. Bureau Veritas classes alltypes of ships and offshore oating units: oil tankers,bulk carriers, passenger ships, containerships, gascarriers, offshore supply vessels, tugs, and many others.

Verication is a scheme through which Bureau Veritas,as an Independent Verication Body (IVB), providesIndependent Competent Persons (ICP) to verifythroughout the life of an installation that theperformance standards dened by the client foreach Safety Critical Element (SCE) are achieved.

Dened originally within UK North Sea regulations,the implementation of such schemes has becomecommon industry practice in key areas of the Oil andGas world, such as the Middle East, Russia, Asia, andnow the U.S. Bureau Veritas’ ICP workforce is deployedand operates on large verication projects in allthese areas.

Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) is a process that identies,

assesses, and maps industrial risks (due to corrosionand stress cracking).

During the RBI process, Bureau Veritas engineersdesign inspection strategies (what, when, how toinspect) that match forecasted or observeddegradation mechanisms.

Fugitive emissions are generated by leaks from process
