A Gate valve is a valve that is used to block or release the flow of liquids or gases through a pipeline. The valve lifts a round, rectangular or wedge shaped gate into or out of the path of the fluid in the pipeline. Gate valves are designed to minimize pressure drop across the valve in the fully opened position and stop the flow of fluid completely. The direction of fluid flow does not change, and the diameter through which the process fluid passes is essentially equal to that of the pipe. Hence, they tend to have minimal pressure drop when opened fully. Due to the gate valve’s ability to cut through liquids, gate valves are often used in the oil and gas industry.

The Spindle mandrel is a bar, a shaft or a spindle around which other components are arranged and assembled in a pipeline. The term has been extended in oil and gas well terminology to include specialized tubular components that are key parts of an assembly or system, such as gas-lift mandrel or packer mandrel.

The Drill pipe makes up the majority of the drill string leading back up to the surface. Each drill pipe includes a long tubular section with a specified outside diameter. At each end of the drill pipe are large diameter sections called tool joints; one end has a male connection while the other end has a female connection. Both ends are threaded to allow the tubular sections to be connected together.

Ball valves are quarter-turn valves and straight-through valves that have a round closure element with matching rounded seats that permit uniform sealing stress and, as such, are valued within the oil and gas industry. It is a type of valve which uses a hollow, perforated and pivoting ball designed for efficient opening and closing due to the ball that rotates to open and close the valve. Ball valves are used in situations where tight shut-off is required. Ball valves are wide duty type valves able to transfer gases, liquids and liquids with suspended solids (slurries).
