State Capital ● Columbus is Ohio’s state capital.● It is located almost directly in the middle of
the state. ● The nickname of Columbus is “The Discovery
City.” ● It is the capital of the largest city in Ohio. ● 15th largest city in the US.● Mayor is Michael B. Coleman.
❖ Evidence shows that the Ohio Valley was inhabited by native people as early as 13,000 BC.
❖ On February 19, 1803: US President Thomas Jefferson signed an act of Congress that approved Ohio's boundaries and constitution.
❖ The United States created the Northwest Territory under the Northwest Ordinance of 1787.
❖ During the 18th century the French set up a system of trading posts to control the fur trade in the region of Ohio.
