I’m thankful for a new season and an opportunity to hopefully start working back towards our new “normal”. This spring was an unprecedented time for all of us. It involved many changes to our personal and professional lives- including but not limited to how we were handling 4-H meetings, committee meetings, programs, camp and fair. This has been a frustrating and trying time for all, but it is nothing we cannot move past, take as a learning opportunity, and be better equipped for the future. I hope all of you received the good news on Monday, July 29 th ! 4-H club meetings and programs can begin to resume face-to-face, as long as the Ohio 4-H Planning Guide for Resuming In-Person Meetings is followed. You can find the guidelines, a tip sheet and resources at ohio4h.org/families/stay-connected. This information is also posted on our Trumbull OSUE website at https://trumbull.osu.edu/program-areas/4-h-youth-development/4-h-forms-and-applications. It is important that both families and advisors read through this material and understand the expectations prior to hosting an in-person meeting. The Trumbull OSU Extension Office is in the transition period of returning to the office the week of July 6 th . Our office is open to the public by appointment only. Please contact the Trumbull Office at 330-638-6783 to set up an appointment. We will continue to send information to you via email. Please let us know if you family’s primary email (used to access 4-H Online) has changed. Lastly, our virtual project judging and animal skillathon window is closing soon on Monday, July 6 th ! Please encourage your members/children to complete their animal skillathon test(s) and submit their general or clothing video submissions soon. I thank you for your continued patience through this time of transition and the past/present meetings and programs we have had to hold virtually. Our 4-H families’ health has always been a top priority. Continue to stay safe! I wish you and your families well. 4-H Youth Development

4-H PROJECT JUDGING/SKILLATHON Project judging for 2020 is 100% virtual this year. Guidelines and more specific details can be found for animal, clothing and general projects at: https://trumbull.osu.edu/program-areas/4-h-youth-development/4-h-forms-and-applications.

Animal Projects

Access Window: June 22-July 6th at 4:30 pm. The following species have a skill-a-thon link:

• Beef • Cat • Cavy • Dairy • Dairy Feeder • Goat

*Pocket pets, hedgehogs & reptiles will complete General Project Judging*

Each species has three age divisions in 2020: junior,

intermediate, and senior. Virtual project judging/skill-a-thon is required in order receive credit and completion status for that project for the year. Members will receive a

project completion ribbon at a later date.

* We are aware there were a few errors within the tests and we apologize. These errors have been corrected. If a

member's score was impacted by one of these errors, they will be notified of their correct score. If there is any other error(s) found, please notify me at [email protected].

Clothing Project Judging Video Submission Due Date: Monday, July 6 by 4:30 pm General Project Judging

Clothing and General Projects will submit videos (as outlined by the guidelines) for review by a judge. Both of these areas

will still receive a project grade (A, B, C) using a scoring rubric unique to 2020. Videos will be reviewed by the end of

July/early August.

CLOVERBUD OPPORTUNITIES Cloverbuds are encourage to participate in a ZOOM Show N’ Tell on Wednesday, July 8 at 6:00 pm (pre-registration is

required as we must have a minimum of five cloverbuds participate in order to hold the event) as well as a poster

display.

OHIO YOUTH SKILLATHON State level youth skillathons are occurring virtually due to the

cancellation of the Ohio State Fair. Youth must register by July 15, 2020. Please visit the link below for more details.

Each species has their own completion window. We encourage youth to participate!

CLUB INSURANCE REMINDER It is still encouraged for clubs to renew their annual

club accident insurance through American Income Life. Rates are $1.00 per member/advisor or $2.00 for

horse members/advisors.

2020 TRUMBULL COUNTY 4-H STEM DAYS We will be doing two STEM Days again this year

located at the OSUE Office for youth in grades K-5. Our theme is, “Dive into Ocean Discovery”. The first session will be held Tuesday, August 11th from 9:00

AM-1:00 PM. The second session will be Wednesday, August 12th from 9:00 AM. to 1:00 PM. These dates

are tentative depending on health guidelines after July 6th. Light refreshments will be provided. Youth will get

to do hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities throughout their time

with us. You registrations forms are posted on our website at www.trumbull.osu.edu 4-H Forms &

Applications and also available hard copy in our office. Cost is $10.00 per youth. You do not need to be a 4-H

member to attend. We are also looking for adult volunteers who may want to help. Whether you are a 4-H advisor or just have a background or interest in

science, technology, etc. and would like to help, please let us know!

4-H CLUB MINI GRANTS

The 4-H Advisory Committee provides opportunities for financial assistance regarding club educational activities, community service projects and other educational endeavors. Mini grants are offered

quarterly (April 1, July 1, September 1 and January 1). In order to receive a mini grant, clubs must fill out an

application and detailed budget. The mini grant maximum per quarter is $500.00. For more

information, please visit trumbull.osu.edu under the 4-H Forms & Applications Tab.

CARTEENS

Trumbull County 4-H partners with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Trumbull County Courts to help teens understand the importance of safe driving. We are on the search for teen volunteers to help lead our

program! As teen leaders, you will help assist with hands-on activities with our program participants. Our program is offered once per month for three hours. For

County 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the 4-H Advisory Committee! Each recipient will receive a $500.00 award towards post-high school education. Best of luck in your

2020 Trumbull 4-H Senior Spotlights:

Families with high school seniors were emailed a request to fill out a short questionnaire and

provide a few pictures so that we could highlight the end of a chapter and the start of a new

beginning for our older youth. Congratulations to all of our high school seniors! Best wishes!

A short video clip of each senior spotlight will be shared on our Trumbull 4-H Program Facebook

Page. Pictures will also be shared on our Trumbull Instagram: trumbull4h. I have been so impressed with the youth’s responses to some

of their questions. I encourage you to congratulate them on a job well done!

Congratulations to our two 2019 Trumbull County 4-H Volunteer Award recipients: Rich Owen & Laura Bond!

Typically, volunteers are recognized at the Trumbull County Fair during Opening Ceremonies. Although this year may look different, we do not want to take away from Rich &

Laura’s recognition. Thank you both for continuing to “make the best better” as both encouraging volunteers and

positive role models for our county.
