AWARD WINNERS

Ohio Bar MedalH. Ritchey Hollenbaugh, Columbus, and Barbara J. Howard, Cincinnati, have been selected as dual recipients of the 2013 Ohio Bar Medal, which is the highest honor bestowed by the Ohio State Bar Association. Each year, the Ohio Bar Medal is given to an individual who exemplifies unusually meritorious service to the legal profession, to the community and to humanity. Hollenbaugh is a partner in the Columbus firm of Carlile Patchen & Murphy where he heads the Business Litigation Practice Group. He received his law degree from Capital University. His commitments to the legal profession include serving on the board of governors of the American Bar Association, and as president of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association and the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation. Among his many honors, Hollenbaugh was named 2013 Lawyer of the Year for ethics and professional responsibility by Best Lawyers in America published by Business First. Howard is an OSBA board-certified family relations law specialist in Cincinnati and a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Law. She served as president of the Ohio State Bar Association, and is a member of its Council of Delegates. Howard served on the Ohio State Bar Foundation board of trustees, and currently serves on the board of directors of the Ohio Bar Liability Insurance Company and as president of the Ohio Lawyers Assistance Program. The Ohio Bar Medal will be presented during the OSBA Annual Luncheon on Thursday, May 9. Nettie Cronise Lutes AwardChagrin Falls attorney Kathleen Balthrop Havener has been selected to receive the OSBA’s 2013 Nettie Cronise Lutes Award. Havener maintains The Havener Law Firm, which also includes her husband as partner. Havener has a long history of developing tools and networks to help women succeed in the legal profession, including her work with the ABA and having successfully launched woman2womanlawref.com, a free referral network for women lawyers to find each other. She lives by the words of Madeleine Albright who said, “There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” The Nettie Cronise Lutes Award will be presented at the Council of Delegates Meeting on Wednesday, May 8.

Eugene R. Weir Award for Ethics and ProfessionalismAkron attorney Frank E. Quirk has been selected to receive the OSBA’s Eugene R. For generations, it was an enclave to immigrants from Eastern Europe; their influence can still be seen and felt to this day. In recent years, the neighborhood has seen serious growth and development, as it has become a food lover destination. Its architecture and culture remain. This 3.5 hour walking tour will highlight this neighborhood’s cuisine, from its ethnic working class roots to the high-end gastronomic experiences available today. Guests will stop at three of the neighborhood’s best restaurants to enjoy a variety of specially created dishes: The South Side, Parallax and Prosperity Social Club.Transportation will be provided to and from the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.
