Elements of the Law
• Position– Player is nearer to opponent’s goal line than
the ball
• Unless – Player is completely in own half of the field– Player is not nearer to opponent’s goal line
than at least two opponents

What is Even?
The position of any part of the player’s body that can legally play the ball is the deciding factor in determining
“offside position”

Serious Foul Play (Red Card) also includes:
NFHSDeliberately handling the ball to prevent it from going into the goal and the goal is not scored
Committing a foul against an opponent who is moving toward the goal with an obvious opportunity to score
However, if a player deliberately handles the ball to prevent it from going into the goal, but the ball continues into the goal and a goal is scored, the player shall only be cautioned (yellow card).
