Re: Standard Bridge Drawings

The following Standard Bridge Drawings are now available:

Noise Barrier Specifications for Ground Mounted Applications, NBS-1-09

Semi-Integral Construction Details for Steel Beam and Girder Bridges on Rigid Abutments, SICD-1-96

Semi-Integral Abutment Diaphragm Guide, SICD-2-14

The following Design Data Sheet is also now available:

Semi-Integral Abutment Diaphragm Details at Diaphragm Guide Location, SICDD-2-14

A brief summary of the release of each drawing follows:

NBS-1-09:

This revision to NBS-1-09 shall be referenced on all projects specifying precast concrete post and panel noise wall that enter Stage 3 design after July 18, 2014. Changes to the previous version of the NBS-1-09 standard drawing include:

Note 11, Shop Drawings, on sheet 1 of 13 has been revised to replace the double P.E. stamp requirement for structural modifications with one P.E. stamp and identification of designer and checker. The note further clarifies that modifications shall be in accordance with the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.

SICD-1-96:

This revision to SICD-1-96 shall be referenced on all projects specifying Semi-Integral Abutments that enter Stage 2 design after July 18, 2014. Changes to the previous version of the SICD-1-96 standard drawing include:

Recent changes to BR-1-13, SBR-1-13 and Type MGS railing have been incorporated.

Details for the TST-1-99 railing system have been revised to show the top mounted posts.

The distance between the bottom of the bottom flange and the bottom of the bearing load plate shown on Section D-D, sheet 3 of 7, has been increased to 9”. This change results from the change in bearing details described below.

The Bearing Detail on sheet 6 of 7 has been revised to show a top plate on the HP section. This plate allows the entire bearing assembly to be shop fabricated and eliminates the all-around field weld to the bottom flange of the beam/girder.

The Bearing Retainers and associated notes have been eliminated due to poor performance.

A General Note for painting the structural steel encased in the abutment diaphragm has been added on sheet 7 of 7.

SICD-2-14:

New Standard Bridge Drawing SICD-2-14 shall be referenced on all projects specifying Semi-Integral Abutments that enter Stage 2 design after July 18, 2014. This drawing replaces the Bearing Retainers previously specified in SICD-1-96 for steel beam and girder superstructures. For prestressed I-beam superstructures, revised details shall be provided in the plans to account for differing rebar and seat width dimension, and the item description shall be “As Per Plan”.

SICDD-2-14:

New Design Data Sheet, SICDD-2-14, shall be utilized to detail the semi-integral abutment diaphragm above the Diaphragm Guides specified in SICD-2-14.
