Oh! by Kopenhagen FurTM uses Danish design traditions to produce natural, understated pieces.

Our products show fur as a material with infinite amount of possibilities in terms of techniques and design; factors at the essence of Oh! by Kopenhagen FurTM. Fur is a natural, sustainable and unique material with a third dimension – it builds a bridge between what you see and what you feel, creating an emotional connection to the product.

For the Autumn/Winter 2012 –13 collection we invite you to explore nature as we see it. Our inspiration was the forest and details in the collection draw upon the different surfaces, structures and levels that can be found in the forest. The natural expression of fur is further emphasised by its use in combination with other natural materials such as leather.

Kopenhagen Fur is the world’s largest fur auction house and the leading supplier of mink skins. Each year, Kopenhagen Fur offers around 20 million mink skins as well as fox, swakara, chinchilla and sable skins. The company is a co-operative owned by Danish fur farmers. At five annual auctions, brokers and buyers from the international fur industry define the current market value of fur skins. Kopenhagen Fur has some of the highest standards in the fur industry, with a unique sorting and grading system which ensures the best fur quality in the world. Kopenhagen Fur is the first auction house in the world that is ISO 9001 certified. This certification ensures that customers always get the product they expect, the sorting process is razor sharp and quality of the work is constantly secured. The certification not only affects the sorting process, but the entire company. Kopenhagen Fur’s approach to fur farming is extremely respectful of the environment and an excellent example of a natural, renewable and sustainable resource. The Association of Danish Fur Farmers has developed an industrial classification code to secure consistent understanding of the rules and guidelines for the farming of mink.

Openness and transparency are key issues for Kopenhagen Fur. An essen-tial part of this transparency is providing information on the welfare status of fur-farmed animals. As a leading member of the European Fur Breeders Association, Kopenhagen Fur strongly supports the WelFur Project on fur-farmed species, a new addition to the EU-funded Welfare Quality® Project. From 2004 to 2009, the Welfare Quality® Project developed general princi-ples and criteria for animal welfare assessment at farm level: good feeding, good housing, good health and appropriate behaviour.

As an extra step to formalise its CSR efforts, Kopenhagen Fur has joined UN's Global Compact Program. Through membership in this scheme, Kopenhagen Fur has committed to operate within Global Compact’s ten principles, which fall under four headings: human rights, labour rights, environment and anti-corruption.

FUR TYPES

The three fur types used in this collection are: mink, fox, and swakara. The fur is supplied by Kopenhagen Fur and sold with Kopenhagen Fur

quality guarantee.

MINK

The mink is a predator belonging to the marten family. The male mink is about 45 centimetres long with a tail of an additional 20 centimetres. The female is somewhat smaller. Quality mink skins are soft and glossy with full and thick fur.Mink is composed of two types of fur: guard hairs and under wool. The under wool is the shorter hairs at the base of the fur, while the guard hairs are the longer hairs which cover the under wool. A high-quality mink fur has lush, thick under wool and equally lustrous guard hair.Mink skins are available in a wide range of colours. There are more than 25 different natural colours, varying from the clearest white to the darkest black. In addition, new techniques have given tanners the opportunity to dye fur all colours imaginable.

FOX

Fox farmers raise blue and silver foxes. The blue fox occurs naturally in a blue and a white variant, and originates from the countries around the Arctic Ocean. The silver fox is a descendant of the common red fox. It occurs in many colour variations from almost black to very light grey/white and from brown hues to red. Fox is known for its lush, thick fur. The hairs are longer and more easily recognisable than on any other type of fur, and fox fur is therefore a treasured material for trimmings and accessories.

SWAKARA

The fur of the Namibian Karakul sheep is known as swakara, an abbreviation for South West African Karakul. Karakul sheep have been bred in Namibia since 1907, when the first sheep were imported from Central Asia.Swakara has earned its rightful place as a favourite among designers and fashion houses for its exclusive appeal, lustrous sheen and truly distinctive pattern of compact curves and swirls. While the natural colours of Karakul sheep are black, grey, white and brown, you will find over 200 different tone variations. Even one grey coloured Karakul features over five natural tones. Swakara is sold exclusively through Kopenhagen Fur.

FUR PLATES

Fur is a precious material and the fur trade has always used all parts of the skin. Fur plates are parts of skin that are cut off during the different furrier processes for the fur coat production. These small pieces are then sewn together into a plate, which can then be used natural or sheared, plucked and dyed. This technique ensures the whole skin is used and nothing is wasted.

In this collection we are using mink plates.
