General Meeting—August CANCELLED
Ogden Neighborhood Association
Minutes for April
The Board meeting dates were discussed and it
was determined Tuesdays would be better than Mondays. The Board meetings will be held on
Tuesdays beginning May 26th.
Tracy Weedman discussed the street mural
project for traffic calming and school safety.
The vision is to include kids from the schools.
It’s been proven to slow down traffic. The
Watershed Alliance has a grant to pay the costs.
The Board discussed the grant application and
answered questions that were needed before
next week’s meeting with the school groups.
Linda Wallers brought a newsletter draft
template. There was discussion on moving
articles around and what should be on the first
page to capture reader’s attention. It was
decided the Board meeting minutes would not
be in the newsletter since the neighborhood
meeting minutes will be.
The neighborhood cleanup was discussed.
Flyers are needed. We possibly will use the
newsletter and emails to get the word out. Next year
the hours will change for the cleanup to 9 AM to 3 PM.
We will reach out to Crossroads for their possible use.
The Board discussed possible speakers for upcoming
meetings. Animal control was recommended and will
see if they can be at the May or June meeting.
There was discussion on using NextDoor to take a
survey on speed bumps.
The Board discussed visiting local businesses in the
neighborhood for articles in our newsletter. We will
start with the local bubble tea ice cream shop.
Meeting adjourned at 7:30
PSO STREET MURAL
Traffic Calming Art
The Ogden Neighborhood Association Board is FULL
STEAM AHEAD on an early summer project, a street
mural, at the entrance to the Peter S Ogden Elementary
School to help slow traffic near the school. To fund the
project we have applied for a Grant through the
Vancouver Watersheds Alliance.
Street traffic murals are proven to slow traffic!
The Mural project consists of a street mural at the
intersection of 27th Street and 81st Avenue. Students
from Fort Vancouver High School will provide some of
the muscle and mentoring for participating PSO
students.

ONA Chair, Tracy Weedman has been meeting
the Fort Vancouver High School staff,
Presidents of the sophomore and senior classes,
and the AVID college prep class to pull
together the people and resources needed for
this project to happen.
If you would like to hear more or, better, if you
would like to participate, please come to the
ONA general meeting on 14 May. If this is
successful, another project in another priority
area can be put on the calendar for 2016. Your
support and enthusiasm is essential in this effort.
Spring Cleanup is Here!!!
It’s that time of year when we rid ourselves of
all those broken, unwanted or unused items
cluttering our homes and garage. Hooray!
The annual Ogden Neighborhood
cleanup day is June 6th at Peter S
Ogden Elementary between 8AM
and 3PM. ID’s will be checked at
the entrance, on 28th Street. There
will be separate bins for metal and
yard debris. In addition, someone will be
collecting items for resale.
Most items are accepted, but NO kitchen
garbage. TV’s and computers can be dropped
off for free at Goodwill.
A wonderful neighbor donates her truck for the
day so we can pick up from those who need.
Please call Tracy (360) 984-1808 or Carrie
(360) 771-3827 with questions or to schedule a
pick up.

NEIGHBORS ON WATCH –
Neighbors being Neighbors!
Neighbors On Watch (NOW) citizen volunteer
program. We are fortunate that Ogden currently
has three neighbors that are longtime members
of this cool community service group. Here is a
little about the NOW program:
Positive relationships between the police, the
community, and individual citizens are
important and vital to the success of Community
Oriented Policing. Consequently, citizen
volunteer programs are an integral part of the
community policing efforts of the Vancouver
Police Department. An especially important
aspect of such efforts
is the positive impact
individual citizens
can have on our
community’s crime
problems and quality
of life issues.

Clark College Opportunity Grant
Lora Jenkins, from the Clark College
Opportunity Grant office, spoke with to Jillena
Levine about this program. “The Opportunity
Grant is a state funded program that is designed
to help remove barriers and provide access to
education to low-income Clark College students
who are Washington state residents. This
program can provide support to students who are
seeking a vocational/professional degree or
certificate program in high wage, high demand
fields. The Opportunity Grant Program at Clark
College is administered through the Workforce
Education Services office. This program may
assist eligible students with tuition, books and
mandatory fees, as well as educational advising
and personal support.”
“The Opportunity Grant serves a diverse
population of students. During the 13-14
academic year, the program served 147 students;
73% were 25 and older, 79% were female, and
27% were students of color.”
