FRIDAY ADORATIONAdoration of the Blessed Sacrament is available every Friday from 8:30

AM to 4:00 PM. We still have the following time slots for which we need people to commit their time: 10:00 - 11:00 am, 3:00 - 4:00 pm, and the 1:00 - 2:00 pm

every other week. The goal is to have at least three persons committed to a period of adoration so that if there are

occasions when someone can’t make it, there will always be someone present. All others are invited to

attend Adoration anytime throughout the day. If you foresee not being able

to attend during your committed hour, please contact the others who

have signed up for that period to ensure that someone is there.

Precautions during Flu Seaon:

We are in the midst of the flu season and here are a few things to remember to help us all stay healthy. Those who have weak or compro-mised immune systems (i.e., the elderly, the infirmed, infants and young children) should consider avoiding large gatherings, including attending services. Please be aware the obligation to attend Sunday Mass does not apply to those who are ill, especially those who suffer from contagious disease. It is a sign of consideration for others that those with a fever or flu-like symptoms remain at home. We pray for the health and recovery of all who are ill and not with us today. Those who are not able to join us are encouraged to join the community in a spiritual communion by praying the Sunday Scriptures, using the readings located at http://usccb.org/bible/readings, and perhaps praying the Rosary or the Divine Chaplet. We will continue to monitor things and may make some changes to our liturgical practice as added precautions. Thank you for your assistance.

Please extend a warm welcome to the following new families at

Leader Needed

The Worship Commission is searching for a leader for the

Ministry of Hospitality. The coordi-nator of the ministry of hospi-

tality recruits, trains and inspires parishioners to serve as ministers of hospitality so that all who visit our parish find a welcome place

to worship. This would be a great position for a couple to work

together as a team.

Page 5: Offsite Parking - ourladylake.diojeffcity.org · potato, cole slaw, hush puppies, cornbread, desserts, beverages and condiments. Everyone is welcome to attend and support the Knights

If you and your family would like to present the gifts for the offertory procession during the weekend Masses, please sign up in the blue binder located at the Welcome Center. This would be a wonderful way to commemorate a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion.

Hello Friends in Christ! There’s a lot of talk lately about

prayer, and for good reason! If you go a single day without a deliberate prayer, albeit a simple ‘thank you’ or ‘Lord, help me,’ you are missing out on the greatest blessing we have been given. That blessing is the ability to talk to God and ask for assistance from the Holy Spirit. I love to pray simply because it keeps the other stuff out. You don’t have to be kneeling and no one has to know you are praying. I used to tell my students all they had to say, or delib-erately think, was, “Lord Jesus, help me.” One second grader informed me that his mom told his dad that saying Jesus was a dirty way to talk. Trying to be diplomatic I asked him what his dad was doing at the time. Apparently, he hit himself with a board and said it really loud. It’s so hard not to laugh sometimes but they are so innocent and you have to tread lightly! We just discussed tone of voice when asking for help from Jesus. He was satisfied with my answer but I hope he didn’t go home and tell his mom about the conver-sation. Sometimes teachers hear way

Getting Closer to God

Can you say the Prayer of St Francis? This one keeps you humble and on track.

Why does God want us to ‘love our neighbor as ourselves’? There are at least two reasons!

NOTES FROM VICKItoo much home life again.

Here is another short prayer by Dorothea E. McHugh, also multi-purpose and easy to remember:

My heart is very heavy Lord,My burden is too hard to bear.Take my cross for a little while,And tell me that you care. Amen.

We are moving through Lent and into Easter, and prayer should be part of your morning, noon and night. Keep it simple, but talk to God always giving thanks. Keep it honest and deliberate. Pope John Paul II said, “Freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do what we ought.” Prayer is the starting place.

If you need a book of prayers, there are plenty in the office for the taking!

Blessings and Prayers to All! Vicki

too much about home life! Ha!So, here’s is the trick: The

Guardian Angel Prayer. It’s a short prayer. It rhymes. It’s easy to remember and covers all the bases.

• “Angel of God, My Guardian Dear.” Ok, now folks, we are talking to an ANGEL! What a blessing!

• “To whom His love commits me here.” A heavenly-made bodyguard. Whoa…

• “Ever this day be at my side.” Constant vigil just because God loves you so much. Wow….

• “To light and guard.” A flash-light for the darker parts of the path, as well as a lookout to steer you away from the cliffs.

• “To rule and guide.” That little voice, who tattles to the Holy Spirit, will question some of your moves and motives; steering you gently to another path if necessary.

For my grandkids I substitute their names with, “Angel of God, Anna’s guardian so dear, to her His love commits you here. Ever this day be at her side, to light and guard, to rule and guide.” She’s four so Angel earns his keep. Her brother requires two Angels, but that would be revealing

PRAYER FOR A STEWARDSHIP PARISH

My parish is composed of

people like me.I help make it what it is.

It will be friendly, if I am.

It will be holy, if I am.

Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them.

It will do great work, if I work.

It will be prayerful, if I pray.

It will make generous gifts to many causes,

if I am a generous giver. It will bring others into

worship,if I invite and bring them

in.It will be a parish of

loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, of compassion, charity

and mercy,if I,

who make it what it is,am filled with these

same things.

Therefore, with the help of God, I now dedicate myself to the task of being all things that I want my

parish to be.

Amen.

AROUND THE DIOCESE

Catholics Returning Home

Do you know someone who has left the Church? Most of us do not have to look very far to find non-practicing Catholics in our circle of family and friends. Many of us are concerned about these loved ones; however, we don’t know how to help them. Many of them are searching, but how can we help them find their way home?

As baptized, practicing Catholics, we have a precious gift of faith from the Lord, to share with our non-practicing brothers and sisters. We need to pray for them. We need to extend a personal invitation to them to come home to the Catholic Church. Many non-practicing Catholics are waiting for an invitation to return. Many mistakenly think they are excommunicated and, for a variety of reasons, are not welcome to return.

Non-practicing Catholics may carry much guilt and misinfor-mation about the Church; they may be afraid of approaching the Church for fear of being rejected. You can make a tremendous difference in someone’s life, simply by reaching out to them and telling them we miss them and want them to come back home to our Church family.

St. Anthony Catholic Church, Camdenton, will host a special program to help non-practicing Catholics return to the Church. “CATHOLICS RETURNING HOME” begins March 3, 2020. We will meet on the six Tuesdays of Lent, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in our Education Center, 1874 N Business Route 5, Camdenton. MO.

Be an evangelist! Share this information with your family, friends and neighbors! Offer to attend with them. Join us as we give them a warm welcome home!

Small Group Discernment Experience for ParishesHave you ever complained about something around our church?

Have you ever wondered how the diocese makes decisions?

Well, here is your chance to jump in and be part of the solutions! If you have not already heard, Bishop McKnight has asked all the parish in the diocese to assist him making some long range strategic decisions! This is not the norm for a diocese to collect concerted types of information in order to improve over all! Bishop really means, “Better Together.”

What a wonderful way to have a voice in issues and events that will be planned in the future.

“This Lenten study for parishes in the Diocese of Jefferson City focuses

on discerning how our parish communities, as centers of charity and mercy, practice stewardship and co-responsibility. This process will inform the pastoral plans of our parishes and diocese.” Go here for in-depth infor-mation: https://diojeffcity.org/better-together-pastoral-planning-process/

Here is a brief rundown of the program. PLEASE do not hesitate to call the office or me for more details. I can get you started quickly and even attend your first session to help out!

1. Four weeks of small group sessions: Keep them simple with a minimum of preparation or fuss.2. Hold sessions anywhere convenient for you! 3. Sessions to-date: a. Parent meetings on Wednesdays beginning Mar 11. Email Vicki: [email protected] to sign up. b. Knights of Columbus – Contact Gary Chaput c. Friday morning group– Contact Shirley Gross d. Brainstorming will be necessary in these groups sohere are some things to get you started! a. What do you do in a normal day? Can you transfer those skills to a purpose within our church? b. Who do you work with? Can you put those talents to use at Our

Lady of the Lake? c. Do you speak another language? d. Is there a project or event you would like to see within our church? e. How could you, or a group, establish something Jesus-like for

which our parish becomes famous?

Use your voice, contribute to something much larger than yourself, and do something Jesus would do if He was here!

parking has been a long custom for those who visit, times change. Traffic patterns have changed as have the needs of the community of which we are part. Last summer was particularly challenging for us to manage traffic. Some of our folks have even ignored the direction of law enforcement who are assisting us in traffic flow.

I encourage everyone to think about some fundamental values that we hold in common: health and safety, the rights of property owners, the responsibility of everyone to co-operate for the common good, and the Christian understanding of sacrifice. Lent is a good time to set aside behaviors and attitudes that reflect self-interest and mere personal convenience. Lent is a perfect time to give up something that we are accustomed to having, especially if it leads to the good of others and fosters a spirit of charity. Bishop McKnight has asked that every parish consider itself as a center of charity. What a profound gesture this can be of a spirit of humility and generosity on our part.

In the coming weeks, we will continue to make people aware of this situation and assist in promoting a safer and more respectful discipline when it comes to parking and traffic flow. I understand that this might entail a major change in custom for some. It will require a concerted effort, especially in assisting our visitors into our own parking lot. We must all give a good example regarding this issue. Thank you for your cooperation.
