EVENT DESCRIPTIONS

MONDAY, OCTOBER 5th – THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8TH Decorating Contest The Homecoming Decorating Contest is an event designed to generate Titan Spirit. Each campus office, residence hall and chapter house is encouraged to participate in order to earn points for their homecoming team and have a chance to win a “traveling trophy” in their category. Each of the areas will have a winner, and from those a campus winner will be chosen. There will be a plaque in Hansen with the name of the overall campus winner displayed. Rules Some materials will be provided to each team (ex: banner and window paint). If a team chooses to purchase other materials, the items must not violate university/residence hall policy. All window paint should be the same brand as was originally given. All offices, windows, and banners should be cleaned up by Monday October 12th at 10:00 am by the team. Residence Halls will decorate a window in their building and Fraternities/sororities and RSOs will decorate a banner. Vulgarity and inappropriate images or statements will not be tolerated in this competition. The judges will have the authority to ask the team to remove any decoration that is deemed inappropriate. If you have a question about what might or might not be appropriate please contact Matthew Damschroder at [email protected]. All decorations should be ready for judging prior to Thursday, October 8th at 4:00 pm for lobbies and banners. For lobby decorating, access must be provided to judges between 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm. Banners must be displayed outside of living units, or for RSO, submitted to the Hansen Student Center Information desk by the judging deadline. There are 10 possible points in each of the five categories, totaling 50 possible points. The categories are:

• Titan pride • Inclusion of theme • Originality and creativity

• Arrangement of decorations and/or use of space • Sustainability of materials used

The judging will be based strictly on decorations of the office/hall/house space. Actors will not play a role in the scoring of the space. The theme is #TGOE Titan Green Over Everything. Winners will be announced at the Titanium event on October 9th.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8TH Lip Sync 8:30 p.m. Center Court, Hansen Student Center The Lip Sync competition is designed to display the creative skills of teams by having them create an original dance routine while lip syncing to music that ties into the year’s theme. Lip Sync consists of two rounds. The first round is a performance selected by the team. The second is a lip sync battle round in “Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” style. RULES

1. Failure to abide by the following rules may result in disqualification of that team.

2. Round 1 a. Each team may contain no more than 20 people. If you are paired with other organizations, members

from each organization must be involved in the performance. b. Your performance may not exceed five (5) minutes. Teams will have 2 minutes prior to and following their

performance to set up and tear down. Every minute exceeding the five minute limit will be penalized 10 points.

3. Round 2 a. Each team may have between 1 - 3 people who will lip sync to 45 seconds of 2 team selected songs. b. This follows a Battle format in that performances will alternate between teams. c. Scores for all team members will be combined to determine the total points for this round.

4. The Homecoming Committee has the right to refuse ANY song that is not appropriate for the activity (i.e. containing excess profanity, in bad taste, etc.). Any props, behavior, statements or apparel worn by participants that is deemed inappropriate by the Committee will also result in immediate disqualification. No dances, props and costumes may include any reference to drugs or alcohol. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in disqualification. Keep it clean—this event will have families in attendance!

5. Music for the team selected performance must be specified on the entry form. No two teams may use the same song. In case of duplicate entries, the entry received first will take precedence.

6. NO Mash-ups! You are being judged on your performance of one song. 7. Each team must turn in their final music selection by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7 on one CD per round

(one for Round 1, One for Round 2) with songs in order and starting at the correct time. Each CD MUST be labeled and be accompanied by a track list. You MUST check your CD to make sure it will play on a device other than the computer you burned it to.

JUDGING CRITERIA For each Round, the three judges will judge the teams on lip sync, appearance, performance, and audience reaction. JUDGES’ DECISIONS WILL BE FINAL!

• Lip Sync (0-30 points): Is the group performing in unison? Do they know the words? • Appearance (0-25 points): Does the appearance of the team resemble that of the musical group being imitated?

Are any of the following utilized: costumes, banners, instruments or stage props? • Performance (0-25 points): Are there choreographed movements and acting? Are there choreographed dance

moves? Throughout each performance judges will be taking obscene or distasteful dances into consideration. At their discretion, they may deduct points for distasteful actions.
