Hello Pirate Penguins--welcome back to school! Nearly all of September has gone by in the blink of an eye which means the second quarter of the Key Club term is just about over. Please pay careful attention to the number of important dates mentioned in this email. This is quite a long message, so I apologize in advance, but bear with me!

September DCM: Thank you to everyone who came out and brought along the members. I'm really happy to say that 8 out of our 9 clubs attended and we had roughly 60 attendees! For the officers who missed the meeting, please message me for more information on RTC, Dues, Fall Rally, and AIDS Walk.

But for the ones who did attend, please take a few moments to fill out the DCM Feedback. The link is included below and as usual, any constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated.

This is to help me improve my performance as your Lieutenant Governor and also run future meetings smoothly and more efficiently.

REGION TRAINING CONFERENCE (RTC): RTC is an annual event put on by the LTGs of the region;our region is consisted of Divisions 01, 13 North, 13 South, 19 North, and 19 South. It's a great opportunity to for new members to LEARN MORE ABOUT KEY CLUB, for officers to GAIN LEADERSHIP SKILLS, and for you to MEET OTHER KEY CLUBBERS from all Los Angeles to Palos Verdes to Cerritos to Long Beach.

So mark your calendars! Save the date! SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15TH is the day of this event. It will take place from 3:00PM to 9:00PM on the campus of CAMS (1000 E. Victoria St. Carson, CA 90747).

Not only will there be fun workshops, there will also be FOOD, GAMES, AND ENTERTAINMENT! Don't worry, it gets better--the FIRST 50 people to register get a FREE SHIRT.

What's the catch? There is a REGISTRATION FEE and a DRESS CODE: You have the option of wearing Blue/Turquoise, Pink, Green, Black, or a neutral color of White.

However, I highly recommend wearing either Blue or Turquoise. If you do not own a Blue/Turquoise shirt, you also have the option of just wearing blue/turquoise tie with a white shirt. Attire is Key Club Casual (jeans are okay), but if you CAN dress up one (button up shirt/tie, jeans are still okay), that would be a great way to just represent the division as well.

Registration is $5 BUT this comes with meal and other Key Club novelty items. So how do you register? If you register ONLINE using the link listed below, there is a 20% DISCOUNT--so your fee is only $4. AND, this gives you the chance to win one of those free shirts I mentioned.

What if you register and can't attend? No worries, the registration fee is going to be paid at the registration table on the day of the event. If you are one of the lucky 50, an LTG will contact you and ask for your shirt size.

Also, because the event will take place on one of our club's campus this year, our division will be hosting. What does this mean? It means that I will send out a timetable of shifts soon--which also means this is a good volunteer opportunity for you and your members! This also means, I am expecting MAXIMUM ATTENDANCE from our division!

**My CHALLENGE to EACH CLUB: Bring 20+ MEMBERS (in addition to officers) to RTC**

AIDS WALK LA 2011: The 27th Annual Aids Walk, Los Angeles is a 10-kilometer walk (roughly 6 miles) that begins and ends in West Hollywood; it will take place on Sunday, October 16, 2011. The goal of this event is to raise funds to help people living with HIV, and to end AIDS in the Southland.

If you haven't already, register using the link below and join the division walking team named "KEY CLUB DIVISION 19 NORTH" and promote this opportunity to your respective clubs as well.

OFFICER EVALUATIONS I: Many of you may or may not recall filling out evaluations on your fellow club board members. Roughly 70% of the officers completed the first round of evaluations. I have attached the results in this email.

This is organized by the order of schools, so the pages are CAMS, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, etc. If you do not see your name on the list, this means that your officers did not evaluate you (this might be the case for the clubs who did not really complete this).

On the other hand, in each column, you can see the average of your results for each category. At the end of the row, you can see the overall average, or your overall performance evaluation.

The boxes highlighted in turquoise mean you really went above and beyond and exceeded expectations. The boxes highlighted in yellow on the other hand show areas that could use some improvement.

Also, at the bottom of your evaluation, there might or might not be comments. These are written to you by your fellow officers. Regardless of the score, remember that this is just a form of feedback--a checkpoint for yourself to see how you are doing. If there's any further questions, please feel free to ask me.

FALL RALLY 2011: Fall Rally is one of the most anticipated Key Club events of the year, taking place at Six Flags Magic Mountain where thousands of Key Clubbers gather to raise funds for Pediatric Trauma. This year, it will be on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19th.

Tickets are $27 (over 50% less than the regular ticket price) and the park will be open from 10:30AM to 6:00PM. But remember, tickets MUST be purchased in advanced or they are $31 on the day of the event.

Start working with your Faculty and/or Kiwanis Advisors NOW about bus details--do not put this off. You must order your tickets by October 28th and pay only with check or money order. Please note: NO CASH.

If you have questions, you can contact me or Bruce Hennings at (877) 597 1770 ext. 105 and [email protected].

UPCOMING DATES AND DEADLINES: First, OCTOBER DCM will be the week after RTC, so SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22ND with a tentative time of 11:00AM - 2:30PM (this includes a preparation session for Fall Rally).

It is not confirmed, but the location is [very] tentatively set at the Nakaoka Community Center (1670 W. 162nd St. Gardena, CA 90247). I will keep you all posted on this and update you when details are confirmed and finalized.

Second, your OFFICER REFLECTION for the SECOND quarter of your term (July - End of September/Early October) will be due on NOVEMBER 5TH by 6:00PM.

I did not receive one from everyone during the first round of reflections, so I am giving you a lot more time to work on this one. I hope that after receiving your respective feedback, you can improve on your reflections.

Remember, this is just a couple paragraphs of self assessment on your role as an officer i.e. your goals, achievements, strengths, weakness, things you can improve on, etc. I will continue to remind you as the deadline draws closer. I just wanted to throw it out there so you are all aware that it's coming up.

DUES, DUES, DUES: I know I have already mentioned this in the previous email, but I cannot stress the importance of paying your dues on time!

Once again, I have attached a crash course powerpoint presentation to this email created by the District Treasurer, CJ Van.

DO NOT PROCRASTINATE on this--I highly recommend submitting your first round of dues before November.

The DEADLINE is DECEMBER 1--which means the dues need to be received AND processed by Key Club International at that time. In other words, be sure to submit it at least 3 WEEKS before the deadline!

And you've reached the end of the message. Yay! I hope you actually read through everything. Quick question to see if you're paying attention: Do you prefer two shorter updates a month, or one bulk update a month? Anyway, here are the informal shout outs for this update.

MAYKYN CARILLO from Lawndale: Happy Birthday! Jason Sato from CAMS: Thank you for being the first to submit your VP Article. Agamoni Bhattacharyya from El Segundo: Thank you for taking to initiative to contact me

about the MRF Gardena Board: Thank you for inviting me to your board meeting
