TIP TO TEEN-AGERS HI Teen-agers! Have you tried horseback

riding? If you haven't you've missed a lot of fun.

You don't have to go way off to the Sierras to enjoy the beauty of nature, the woods, the views . . you can get it all right here in the Oakland hills.

While riding along the trails on your faithful horse, you get a feeling of free-dom. There's nothing better than a horse to give you an understanding of animals, too.

So-why don't you come on the MHA trail rides and find out for yourself how much fun there really is in riding. It's a sport that no teen-ager should pass up. (Written by Gene Rocha).

AT THE STABLES MOUNTAIN RIDING CLUB:

Boarders ar:id guests enjoyed an early Sunday morning breakfast and trail ride on May ~7. The excellent menu consisted of a choice of several fruit juices bacon eggs, pancakes, rolls, and coffee, ahtv pre'. pared_ and. served ~Y Chef Johnny ·owen a_n~ hi? assistant, Bill Barnard. Those par-t1cipatmg _were Lou and Ruth Conner, Ted and Caroline Bechtel and children Evelyn Kerr, John Preston, De~l Owen, P~ggy and Warren Cramer and children, Ed and Bet-ty Lou Marquardt and children, Mr. and Mrs. Seely and children, Bob and Lynn Carroll, Mr. and Mrs. Devlin, Mrs. Bar-nard, Don Swan, Don Flanigan, Lew Schaackey, and hosts Burl and Lillian Tatum. A series of such breakfasts are being planned for the summer months.

Peggy and Warren Cramer's daughter Kathy recently acquired a Palomino geld-ing, Thunder. Lillian Tatum had a vaca-tion in Pasadena.

PIEDMONT'S prominent visitors re-cently were Mr. and Mrs. Buster Ivory of rodeo fame. Kathy Ann and Linda Pat-ten had a wonderful time playing with the three Ivory youngsters ... Kathy Ann is already looking forward to joining the ranks of the mounted group along with Linda. .

Arriving recently at Piedmont: Mrs. Spaich, Shell Laston, Don Huber; a colt, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shelton.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Beverly Adams, following an operation.

HIGHLAND STABLES folk are mighty proud of tiny Carol Armtrout, aged 4, who made two runs of the hippodrome stand in front of an audience after only two weeks of practice . . "In My Merry Olds-mobile" is passe now that Ray Trimble has the hay rack working. King and Colonel, the matched team, are all excited over the hay rides too, or could it be that second prize · they took at the Hayward parade?

In the strictest of training is Janet Stone's Cricket. "Patience," says Janet, "is all it takes". Gordon Lo,wry is walk-ing around with that "gotta get a horse" look.

THANK YOlJ - 278 TIMES! The two hundred and seventy eight who

accepted the hospitality of George and Helen Daniels on May 30 all say "Thank You." It was the biggest turnout on the Daniels Day Trail Ride and Field Day to date.

Meeting at Sequoia Arena, the group witnessed the presentation of a tractor to .the Oakland Park Depar tment. Thanks to George Daniels and Joe Stern who made this gift possible, trail work will start in earnest according to William Penn Mott, J r., Superintendent of Parks.

The trail ride, planned by Sidney Chown, was wonderful, and thanks to Richard Walpole, Manager, and the staff of Red-wood Regional Park, and Wes Adams, the trails were in excellent condition. Many improvements had been completed at the race track area, too. While photograph-ers, George Daniels and Robbie Robinson, Eastman Kodak and Federal Drug, waited at a scenic spot to photograph the riders, Alicia Coffey took a wrong turn. Cross-country rushed the photographers and caught the group later.

What a lunch! Such huge portions of chicken that melted in your mouth! r

Miss Cornelia Cress planned the field events and secured the good-looking rib-bons. Bill Patten and Jimmy Black act-ed as judges for western events; Lorraine Harris, for English. Bob Lorimer and Phyllis Hill acted as clerks.

Collecting memberships and registering riders were Gus and Elsa · Himmelman, Bud and Vi Vogel, Mary Gale, Mabel Smith, Jack and Jerry Kerr, Kay Bennett, Martin Murray, Dutch and Harold Cum-mings. Dispensing liquid refreshments, was Sidney Chown.

John Macdonald, Director, East Bay Re-gional Parks, joined the horsemen for the first time and had a fine time.

Thanks to our good .friend the Sun Elec-tric Company for the sound equipment, to Ed Wise acting as disc jockey, and to Stan Cosca for his fine announcing.

Thanks again, Helen and George, for the best horsemen's event yet.

DID YOU FORGET? If you forgot to attend the Open Meet-

ing on June 7, you missed one of the most beautiful horse films ever shown. "Free and Easy," the sound-color film about Tennessee Walkers was a treat and we are indebted to Mr. and Mrs .. Hedges for securing the film.

William Penn Mott. Jr., Superintendent of the Oak!land Park Department IS a horseman. . for some years he worked in the Nationa1l Park Service going out for weeks at a time on a horse and leading a pack animal. He's probably spent more hours on a horse than many of us can boast about . . that's why he has a genuine good feeling for horses and horseback riders. At the Open Meeting he stated that trails solely for equestrian purposes the building of stables near the arena and the clubhouse ori the hill, WILL be reality. "Have faith and patience," he said "this will all blossom forth some day." '

Our thanks to Gus and Elsa Himmelman who served refreshments and to Robbie Robinson your Eastman Kodak dealer on Grand A-venue, who brought the sound equipment and showed the films.

Among those present at the meeting were: Messrs. and Mesdames Stern, Kerr, Crass, Himmelman, Collins, Hedges, Cof-fey; Mary Gale, Mabel Smith, Bonny Hooper, Noni and Joan Nichols, Nancy Hill, Laverne and Mrs. Gabrielson, Bur ton Thomas, Herb Lombardi, Mrs. Wandes-
