THE CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERATIONAS MODIFIED BY THE CONSTITUTION (SUSPENSION AND. MODIFICATION) Decree 1966

By His Excellency Major-General Yakusu Gowon, Head ofthe Federal Military Government, Commander-in-Chiefof the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Wuerzas by section 111 (2) ofthe Constitution ofthe Federation as modified by the Constitution (Suspen-sion and Modification} Decree 1966 it is provided that the Judges of the Supreme Court of Nigeria shall bethe Chief Justice of Nigeria and such numberof Justices of the Supreme Court (not being less than five) asmay be prescribed by law:

AND WHEREAS by section 112 (4) of the Constitution of the Federation as modified by the Constitution(Suspension and Modification) Decree 1966 it is provided that if the office of any Justice of the SupremeCourt is vacant or if the person holding the office is for any reason unable to perform the functions of theoffice, the Supreme Military Council, acting after consultation with the Advisory Judicial Committee, mayappoint a person qualified to hold the office of a Justice of the Supreme Court to actin the office of a Justiceof the Supreme Court.

Now THEREFORE, THE SUPREME Mititary Council, acting after consultation with the Advisory JudicialCommittee, do hereby appoint Mr Jusriczk Gzorce SopEINDE SowEgMIMoto act as a Justice of the SupremeCourt with effect from 25th January 1971.

Wuereas a Trade Dispute between the Association of Aircraft Technicians of Nigeria Airways Limitedand the Nigeria Airways Limited has been apprehended by mein accordance with the powers conferred upon‘me by section 5 (2) of the Trade Disputes (Emergency Provisions) Decree No. 21 of 1968 and 2 trade disputenow exists between the aforesaid parties ; :

AND WHEREAS both parties have been informed of my apprehension and of the steps which I propose totake for the purposeof resolving the dispute ;

Now THEREFORE, I, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 4 (2) of the Trade Disputes(Emergency Provisions) (Amendment) Decree No. 53 of 1969 hereby refer the matters in dispute to theINDUSTRIAL ARBITRATION TRIBUNAL with the following terms of reference :—

Applicants for non-graduate and technical coursesmust possess at least the West African SchoolCertificate Grade I or Grade II or ite equivalent(with credits in English and Science subjects fortechnical courses) or the relevant professionalqualification for entry into the proposed course ofstudy.

6. Post-Graduate.—Applicants for post-graduatedegrees must have obtained first or second classhonours in their first degrees except in such courseswhere examination results are not graded, forexample, Medicine.

7. Admission.—In addition to submitting applica-tion forms, candidates are expected to apply foradmission direct to institutions of their choice.Where applicants for courses tenable overseasfail to secure admission, they will be assisted by theMinistry provided they gain awards. In the casesof successful candidates who produce evidence ofadmission to overseas institutions, the ScholarshipBoard would confirm such admission through theNigeria High Commission, London, or the appro-priate Embassy in the country concerned. |

8. Photostat copies ofcertificates must be attachedto the application forms and these may be retainedfor the use of the Scholarship Selection Board.
