Under fierce attack from theOpposition, the Madhya PradeshGovernment today ordered a judi-cial probe into the stampede inDatia district and recommendedsuspension of top district officialsincluding the Collector and policechief over the tragedy thatclaimed 115 lives.

Chief Minister Shivraj SinghChouhan, facing attack from theCongress party, which is seekinghis resignation for the "man-made" tragedy, announced a judi-cial Commission of Inquiry to gointo the incident and recommend-ed suspension of Datia districtCollector, Superintendent ofPolice, Sub-DivisionalMagistrate, Subdivisional Officerof Police and the entire staff ofSevdha police station.

The decision to recommend thesuspension to the ElectionCommission was taken at reviewmeeting chaired by Chouhan atDatia which found the officialsguilty of major lapses that led to the

disaster in the election-bound State.The death of 115 persons and

injury to 100 odd devotees in thestampede near a Durga temple atRatangarh during Navratri fes-tivities last morning has prompt-ed demands for the Chief

Minister's resignation.Lakhs of devotees had con-

verged at Ratangarh, 60 kmfrom the district headquartersand around 320 km from Statecapital Bhopal, to offer prayersat a Durga temple.(PTI)

India, US to jointly target LeT, JuDWASHINGTON, Oct 14:

India and the US have agreed to work together to target thefinancial network and fund raising activities of Pakistan-based ter-ror outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba, Jamaat-ud-Dawa, the Haqqaninetwork and individual terrorists associated with these organisa-tions.

The decision by the two countries, in this regard, was takenduring a meeting between Finance Minister P Chidambaram andUS Treasury Secretary Jack Lew yesterday.

The two leaders jointly chaired the fourth annual meeting ofIndia-US Economic and Financial Partnership held at the IMFheadquarters here.

Chidambaram and Lew also agreed on commitment to deepen-ing dialogue on implementation of international anti-money laun-dering, combating the financing of terrorism and expanding coop-eration on countering illicit financing.

This will include targeting the financial networks and fundrais-ing activities of terror organisations such as Lashkar-e-Toiba(LeT), Jamaat-ud Dawa (JuD), the Haqqani Network and individ-ual terrorists associated with these organisations, India said in astatement after the meeting.

These commitments were also reflected in a joint statementissued after Chidambaram’s meeting with Lew.

Jamaat-ud-Dawa is the parent body of banned terror groupLashkar-e-Toiba that carried out the 2008 Mumbai attacks whichclaimed 166 lives.

“They also agreed to enhance cooperation between our agen-cies in fighting against counterfeiting currency and illicit financialflows,” the statement said. (PTI)
