America's Deadly Silence! Abortion is the most common, least regulated medical procedure and the number one killer in America. More lives are lost each year through abortion than all deaths due to cancer, heart attacks, accidents, AIDS, natural disasters, wars, illness and diseases combined. The savagery of war, the atrocities of the Nazi holocaust, graphic violence, natural disasters and critical and bloody medical procedures are routinely shown on the media. But never an abortion! Women are denied critical information on the risks of an abortion, including increased risk of Breast Cancer, Post Abortion Syndrome, the sale of body parts etc. The truth about abortion has been censored by the media, silenced by our courts, politicized by our politicians and even silenced in our churches and schools. Babies in the womb have no voice except yours and mine. We cannot remain silent any longer! Pro-Life Articles Author

Pro-Life Articles Author

Come Lord Jesus! Turning Towards the Lord: Part 2 In this second installment, we continue our examination of the history and theology regarding the Mass and how Holy Mother Church – in her Tradition and current instructions on how the Mass is to be celebrated – calls us all to turn toward the Lord not only in our hearts, but in the direction we all face when worshiping God.

Liturgical Reform of Vatican II The Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) was convoked for the renewal of the Church’s great commission from Christ to evangelize the world. It was a pastoral Council primarily concerned with more effectively living the Gospel and bringing this Good News to the world. No dogma was changed and the liturgy as celebrated in 1962 was not abolished. In his address to open the Council Saint John XXIII said: “The greatest concern of the Ecumenical Council is this: that the sacred deposit of Christian doctrine should be guarded and taught more efficaciously.”

The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium (1963) was one of the 16 documents produced by the Council. In that Constitution the Council fathers set forth several principles for the renewal of the Church through its liturgy including the “full, conscious, and active participation” (14) of all the faithful in the Mass: “To promote active participation, the people should be encouraged to take part by means of acclamations, responses, psalmody, antiphons, and songs, as well as by actions, gestures, and bodily attitudes. And at the proper times all should observe a reverent silence” (30). The Council said nothing about the priest facing “towards the people” (versus populum) during Mass.

In light of principles enunciated in the Constitution on the Liturgy, Blessed Paul VI promulgated a revised Order of the Mass in 1969. In the following year he promulgated the Roman Missal (the large book for the priest containing prayers and basic instructions for the celebration of Mass) with its accompanying General Instruction (containing more detailed instructions and explanations with regard to the celebration of Mass). In the 1970 Roman Missal the default posture of priest and people during Mass is facing the same direction (ad orientem) as it had been from at least the fourth century. However, the 1970 General Instruction (262) does permit the priest to face the people (versus populum).

It must be noted that the current version (2002) of the Roman Missal and General Instruction promulgated by Saint John Paul II retains the default posture of priest and people facing together the same direction while permitting Mass to be celebrated with the priest facing the people (299).
