Kindergarten Parent Orientation: Thursday, August 20th at 7:00 PM (Children do not attend)
Kindergarten Student Orientation: Friday, August 21st at 11:00 AM (Children and parents attend)
Open House on Friday, August 21st 2:00 - 3:00 pm for Grades 1-5 (optional for K)

Can your child….• Put on and take off coat, tie shoes,
wash hands, snap/button/zip/buckle?
• Listen and follow directions, cooperate with others, sit for short periods of time, follow 2-step directions?

Can your child….• Sit and listen to a story, hold a book
correctly, say first/last name clearly, tell and retell familiar stories, know colors, shapes, and sizes, count 1-10?

Can your child….• Say the ABCs, hold scissors & pencils
properly, recognize and write first name (Jordan), recognize letters in his/her name?
How to Start the Year “Jitter-Free”!
Smooth the transition for your child (and you!) by doing these things together:– Visit the school playground.
– Talk about “what to expect” in school.
– Work on the activities in the Countdown to Kindergarten packet. Select books from the Road to Kindergarten Booklist. This can be found on the Howard County Public School System website under Kindergarten Registration.

– Attend a “Kindergarten Here We Come” class at your local library in August. Dates are provided on the Howard
