OFF-LOADINGOffloading means purging of non critical

tasks from your daily schedule so you canwork with focus on things that are high onyour priority list

In simple words this means to get rid of things that waste your time so that youhave more time to do things that are on ahigh priority for you.

When you offload the main points to keepin mind are that.

You don’t have to do everything everybody

tells you to do.

You don’t have to do everything the way otherpeople tell you to do it.

You don’t have to do everything according tothe other person’s time frame.

You don’t have to do everything yourself.

Being busy does not make u successful.

Getting things done does. You have to please others but first you have to

please yourself.

PICK AND CHOOSE WISELY When people start to complain that they

don’t have enough time to do everythingthey want to do, it is when they just havetoo much to do.

The number of things that a person wants todo is infinite but our time is limited. Wecan only accomplish so much in a givenday

To do this we have to pick and choose wiselythe tasks that are more important to us.

Is this task something that you want to do?

Will doing the task help you to achieve yourbusiness or personal goals?

Is it something that you have to do or is itsomething someone else can do?

Do you have the time to do it?

Are you willing to sacrifice the time toaccomplish the task?

Will doing it make u bored, unhappy or evenmiserable?

Is the task better suited for another person? Will the benefits of doing the task i.e. customer

satisfaction, fee, commission, goodwilloutweigh the cost i.e. time and effort?

If you had only a year to live and could select

ELIMINATE USELESS OR TIMECONSUMING ACTIVITIES

Part of being a productive worker is avoidinginterruptions and putting in the necessarytime to complete tasks.

Sometimes when we have multiple

responsibilities, the solution is to get otherpeople to do as many of the non-criticalactivities that you are able to afford to giveup.

To maximize your productivity, income andoutput, important and meaningful workmust be a priority

Once time is gone it cannot be regained so

it’s best to utilize our time efficiently.

IF YOU WANT IT, ASK FORIT This principle – if you want it, ask for it – is

true in virtually every facet of life –marriage, childhood, parenting and timemanagement.

Ask for what you want. Demand for whatyou want. Insist on what you want. Notevery time and every situation. The pointis that unless you ask you will never know

whether you will get it.

A few points to keep in mind are:-If you need more time for a project, ask. You

 just might get it.

If you don’t want to take on an activity, tell

the other person you don’t want to do it. That person might find someone else to doit or do it himself.

If a deadline, working arrangement, or

situation is not right for you, tell the otherperson so. That person often adjusts his orher needs to fit your preferences.

Need a break? Ask for one. You just might

get it.

ACT AS IF YOU HAVE ONLY ONE LIFE TO LIVE

If you don’t think that your time is limitedthen you have no reason to offloadirrelevant tasks and stick to priorities.

This mainly happens in our youth when we

feel no urgency in life. There was also thenotion of tomorrow.

All of that changes when we reach the ageof 40

Page 11: Off-loading and Priority Management

We realize that we have another 10 to 20years to achieve our professional goals.

You concentrate more on what’s good foryou and less on what everybody else

wants you to do.If you can adapt this over 40 mindset even if

you are fewer than 40 then you can gaintremendous leverage in negotiating the

use of your time

The over 40 mindset helps you to realizethat you not have to please other peopleall the time

Use phone calls, faxes, teleconferences orvideoconferences more often instead of travelling. These not only save time but also save

money. If your family life is a priority have a family meeting

to discuss how much travel is acceptable. Discussthe results with your supervisor.

To avoid travelling on weekends, schedulemeetings only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, or even late Monday or early Friday.

Tell your boss in advance when you can’t travel. Forexample, anniversaries, birthdays, specialfunctions, etc.

When you’re away take an hour each day foryourself. Relax or do something fun so you don’tfeel that you are working around the clock.

Bring family members along once a while. Turning

Many people put in an effort although at theend they get no benefit out of it.

They do a lot and waste a lot of time andeffort when there is an easier and less time

consuming way.

something that you continually strivetowards.

For some people their priorities are to havea good marriage, to be an engaged parent,
