    COMMUNICATIONS AND OUTREACH INTERN

    The Organic Food Council of Manitoba is seeking a Communications and Outreach Intern. This seven

    month term position is 40 hours per week, $14/hr starting September 1, 2010-March 31, 2011.

    Job Description

    1. Assist with Outreach and Communications2. Staffing displays (up to 3 per month)3. Assist with developing bi-weekly e-newsletters and website updates4. Event logistics for Organic Week (October 9-16th) and other events (Farmer training, Growing

    Local conference )

    5. Assistance with farmer trainee recruitment6. Newcomer and First Nations farmer consultations regarding farm training7. Consultations with institutions, camps, youth programs, and community clubs for local and organic

    food procurement and direct marketing with farmers

    8. Assisting with Manitoba Cooking up Change contest for local high schools9. Other duties as assigned

    The successful applicant will have/be:

    Strong written and oral communication skills Strong organizational skills with proven attention to detail Strong time management and able to multitask and meet deadlines Strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with the public Able to exercise independent judgment The ability to travel and stand at public displays or make public presentations High level of computer knowledge, Internet, Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint Be self motivated and a team player

    Knowledge of food security, rural issues, and sustainable agriculture Proven web and social networking capabilities Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends for displays and events Access to a vehicle is considered an asset

    unemployed)

    can demonstrate that working in the field of communications is a career goal has not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience placement
