SUMMER IS NEAR, TIME TO CLEAR CIS PTA Uniform Swap June 11, 2013

The CIS PTA is organizing a Uniform swap to give families a chance to replace outgrown uniforms. Gently used and clean uniforms may be donated and placed in the labeled box outside the Administration Building until June 10. (Please check and ensure your do-nated items do not have stains, buttons miss-ing or holes). Funds raised will go to-wards school library books. More details to follow.

No Summer School at CIS

CIS will not be offering a summer school program this year. The reason for this is two-fold. Sever-al months ago we expected that there would be major construction on the campus during the summer, particularly due to expansion plans. After consultation with Camana Bay, we have all decided to postpone construction work until next summer. Staff availability and classroom and building maintenance necessitate that classes cannot be held at CIS this summer. Thank you for your understanding.

To make things easier, we have added a link to the Scholastic Summer Challenge Web site on the CIS library homepage. You will find it on the right-hand side of the library site. Keep up the

Soccer Celebration

To change things around a bit this year our sports day will be a

Soccer Celebration, on Monday, June 3rd. It will be a friendly

competition between classes in grades 4 and 5. In the kindergar-

ten to grade 3 classes, grade teams will be made up by me. Kin-

dergarten will be made into 2 teams, grade one- 2

teams, grade 2- two teams, and grade- 3 two

teams. Students should have hats, sun screen, and

water bottles.

STAND UP

DAY Today the Early Child-

hood students observed

“Being Friends Day” and Ele-

mentary School Students all partic-

ipated in “Stand Up Day.” This was

our way of taking part in International

Stand Up to Bullying Day and in the Anti-

Bullying Initiative in the Cayman Islands.

During the morning Early Childhood students in

some classes made friendship bracelets for friends in

another class. Children sang friendship songs and read

books such as Fox Makes Friends, Best Best Friends and

Rainbow Fish. Children talked about how to solve problems if

someone is doing something they don’t like or if they don’t want

to play the same thing, etc. They also gave compliments to each

other and talked about what they liked about their classmates.

Elementary students did activities and discussions related to the

Pledges they recited at the afternoon assembly. Many classes did

an activity with crumpled heart cutouts to illustrate how unkind

words and actions can hurt our feelings. There were Kindness

Notes and Compliment activities, viewing Brain Pop videos about

bullying, reading and discussing books and stories, singing buddy

songs and many other imaginative and creative lessons.

Dear Parents,

Today was International Stand Up to Bullying Day. CIS participated across all

age levels with age appropriate activities and teacher/counselor led discussions. We

hope that this programming encouraged students to treat each other with respect, be

kind, think about the words they use, and know the steps to take if they witness bullying or

are being bullied.

On Wednesday, two of our seniors, Moses E. and

Juliana W., went with Ms. Sarah to watch the

swearing in of the new Legislative Assembly of

the Cayman Islands. The students witnessed each

member of the Assembly making their affirma-

tions and oaths, and heard a speech by His Excel-

lency the Governor before the elected members

and other honoured guests moved inside to begin

the first meeting of the new Legislature. This was

an important event for the Cayman Islands and we are thrilled that some

of our students were able to witness this moment.
