New allegations from at least two actresses came out over the weekend accusing Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of sex-ual abuse. Actress Annabella Sciorra claims that Weinstein “violently raped” her, and actress Daryl Hannah says her career suffered after encounters with Weinstein. Leaders at Christ Church (Episcopal) Alexandria, Virginia, have decided to remove a plaque marking the pew where a mem-ber, President George Washington, sat and worshipped with his family. The church leaders say the plaque of a former slave owner makes some worshipers uncomfortable.

EMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS AGAIN Tennessee’s unemployment rate has dropped to a new historic
low, 3 percent. Tennessee had the lowest unemployment in the
Southeast in September. In the Athens area, McMinn County’s
jobless rate was 3.4% in September, down from 4.1% in August.
Meigs County reported a jobless rate of 3.9% in September, down
from 4.9% in August. In Monroe County, the unemployment rate
in September was 3.1%, down from 3.9% in August. Polk
County’s jobless rate in September was 3.3%, down from 4.1% in
August. Bradley County recorded an unemployment rate of 2.8%
in September down from 3.5% in August. Rhea County continued
to have the highest rate of unemployed workers in the state, with an employment rate of 4.9%.
POWER RATES TO GO UP IN NOVEMBER The local power rate for Athens Utilities customers will edge up
in November compared to October as a result of a higher monthly
fuel charge from TVA. For the average home use of 1225 kilo-
watt hours, the change will mean about $2.00 more for power for
the month. AUB suggests some steps you can take to keep the heat inside your home. Those steps include ensuring adequate
insulation in your attic, putting an insulating blanket on your wa-
ter heater, keeping doors and windows shut at all times, taking
advantage of the sun’s heat by opening curtains on the sunny side
of the house, and cleaning heating system filters every month.
