Why are these characters lonely?George - only company is Lennie, so even though he can talk to him it is not someone on his level or who can understand him. Lennie – is isolated from everyone because he is still very childlike, so gets left out of a lot of things. Candy – because he is getting old and cannot join in with the men any more, and work with them.Curley – he is not liked by the other men on the ranch and does not have a good relationship with his wife. Crooks – is black, not allowed into the bunkhouse, very badly treated by the other men.Curley’s wife – none of the men on the ranch dare talk to her, does not have a good relationship with her husband.Slim – is respected by all the men, but not really mates with them, being so well thought of and in charge could leave him isolated.
