Part 2

Page 2: Of Guan Yin and Compassion (part 2)

2

One who is overwhelmed

with hate cannot know the good

and cannot see things as they are.

Page 3: Of Guan Yin and Compassion (part 2)

3

The past should not be followed after

and the future not desired.

What is past is dead and gone, and the future is yet to come.

4

Virtue is the foundation, the forerunner and

origin of all that is good

and beautiful. Therefore

one should purify virtue.

5

The flood is crossed by faith;

by vigilance the sea is crossed. Pain is overcome

with vigour; by wisdom

one is purified.

6

Those who apply themselves

day and night to the teachings of the Buddha will quench the

burning fire of lust by the perception

of the impure.

7

For the mindful one, there is always good;

for the mindful one, happiness increases;for the mindful one,

things become better.

and mind composed, thus one crosses the raging flood.

9

Just as a mother would protect her only child with her life,

let us cultivate a boundless love

towards all beings.

Page 10: Of Guan Yin and Compassion (part 2)

10

Just as a loving mother would guard

her only dearly beloved child,

so towards creatures everywhere

one should always wish for their good.

Page 11: Of Guan Yin and Compassion (part 2)

11

There are two people

whose love is not easy to repay.

Which two?Your mother and father.

Page 12: Of Guan Yin and Compassion (part 2)

12

To support one’s father and mother,

to cherish one’s wife and children, and to be engaged in

peaceful occupations – this is

the highest blessing.

13

Giving, a life of Dharma,

caring for relatives, and blameless deeds:

this is the greatest fortune

Page 14: Of Guan Yin and Compassion (part 2)

Gratitude and consideration

for others is noble.

Page 15: Of Guan Yin and Compassion (part 2)

15

Hatred does not cease

by hatred, but only by love. This is

the eternal law.

Page 16: Of Guan Yin and Compassion (part 2)

16

One with goodwill for all beings

has no hostility with anyone at all.

17

Speak only the speech that

neither torments oneself

nor does harm to others.

That speech is truly well spoken.
