100% Syrah grapes are grown on the high altitude slopes of Montes’ Finca de Apalta estate in the Apalta Valley, where the considerable incline exceeds 45 degrees. At less than 1.6 tons per acre, yields are low and berries are small and thus more concentrated than those from the vineyard's lower slopes. e grapes deliver incredible color, tannins, and avor, giving Montes Folly a richly complex and powerful prole. Harvesting on the steep vineyards requires a degree of gymnastics from agile pickers. Grapes are hand-selected and sorted on a special selection table, and once in tank, a bleeding of 20% further concen-trates avor, tannins and color. To remain true to terroir, fermentation takes place with the grapes' natural wild yeasts. e wine is aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels. ere is no ning and only one very light ltration before bottling. Production is limited to just 9,000 bottles.

A beautiful blend consisting of 92% Carmenère and 8% Petit Verdot aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels. Fruit is harvested from extremely low yields of 1.9 tons per acre and the Carmenère is hand-selected from the best Montes estates (50% Apalta and 50% Marchigue). Elegant and powerful, Purple Angel showcases rich red berries, dark chocolate and mouth-watering plum avors that give way to soft, supple tannins and a very long nish with a touch of oak.
