The ocular manifestations of thyroid eye disease can be divided into four clinical categories:
1. Eyelid disorders2. Eye surface disorders3. Ocular motility disorders4. Optic neuropathy
Retraction of upper and lower eyelids
Proptosis (protruding globe)
Widened palpebral fissure
Lagophthalmos
Lid lag on downward gaze
Corneal exposure , dry eye
Conjunctival injection and chemosis
Restricted ocular movements
Compressive optic neuropathy visual acuity , colour vision , + RAPD , visual field defects
No signs and symptoms Only signs Soft tissue involvement Proptosis Extraocular muscle involvement Corneal involvement Sight loss (optic nerve compression)
