Ready, Set, Go!

The last meet for Cross Country took place at Ray-Pec. The boys’ teams finished 12th overall. The girls’ team came in 2nd place, ending the season on a high

note. “The meets are my favorite part,” says Jaycie Call. “That’s

why I’m excited for track to start up.” All members in Cross

Country did outstanding with trying their best to take the win.

Kudos to them who ran their hearts out!

Killer Ending

The Pirate Girls’ Volleyball teams had mixed emotions as their season came to a close. They all worked hard throughout the season and proved how good they were. The B Team had a satisfying season with a few tough losses. In their last few games, they played against Liberty and lost both sets. They came back with an amazing match against Liberty North, winning both sets. The Smithville Tournament provided a long day of great volleyball. The B team took first in bracket play but ended up losing in the championship game. The B Team took a hard loss in their final game against Kearney. The B Volleyball Team ended the season with a record of 6-4. The A Team had a great season as well. Their only two losses were against Liberty and Kearney. They put on an exciting show against the teams at the Smithville Tournament. They won their bracket and the championship game. The A Volleyball Team finished their season with a record of 8-2. Both teams did a terrific job this season and were sad to see it end.

The End to a Hail Mary

Season

It has come to the end of the

Pirate football season. With the

last three games being against

Liberty North, Pioneer Ridge,

and Kearney.

The third game was away at

Liberty North. “A Team” had

some luck winning a close battle

6-0 with a trick play called the

fumblerooski. “B Team” worked

energetically, but ended up

losing 20-0.

The fourth game was at

home against Pioneer Ridge. “A”

and “B” teams tried their hardest,

but both teams ended up losing

by 22 points.

The last game of the season

was against arch rivals Kearney

Bulldogs. “A Team” put their

hearts and souls into the game

but ended up losing 12-22. “B

Team” won with a proud smile

20-6.

Both “A” and “B” teams did a

fantastic job all season, ending

with records of “A Team” being

(2-4), and “B Team” finishing

(1-4-1).

Royals Swing Their Way to the World Series

With a winning record and a division title in their back pocket, the Royals look to finish what they started in 2014. As they faced elimination in game four of the ALDS, the boys

in blue never gave up. Scoring seven runs in the last two innings of game four, they swung their way to a victory, forcing an all or nothing game five. The Royals clinched

their second straight ALCS appearance, silencing the Astros in the concluding game at the K. Meanwhile, The Toronto Blue Jays conquered the Texas Rangers, weaving

themselves into the ALCS alongside their toughest competition. Last time these two powerhouse teams went head to head, it was not pretty. Hit batters and pitching inside

led to a cleared bench brawl on August 2nd during the regular season. The Blue Jays carried an entire country’s hopes on their shoulders, but the team from KC took the

series in six games. The Royals are the American League Champions. Now they will try and reclaim the gold they fell ninety feet short of last fall. No matter the outcome of the 2015 World Series, you can bet that both teams will be fighting for their lives in the best

of seven series.

Glow After Blackout Victory

When the forms go out, the shirts come in! Everyone gears up with this year’s

Blackout shirts. For the last home game of the season, the Platte County Pirates

went against Raytown. The marching band performed at the beginning of the

game to get the crowd pumped! The score was 3 to 0 Pirates at halftime. The

parents of the 2015 graduating class lined the edge of the football field as their kids

marched onto the field with the band. Once the seniors had taken pictures with

their families, the band played. After a hard-fought second half, the Pirates came out on top! Pirates won by a score of 26

to 15. Then, the lights went out. The marching band filled the field with glow

sticks taped on their arms and legs. After the exciting performance, everyone exited the stands with amazement in their eyes

and a memory they’ll have forever.

Mentors Lead the Way

“Mentoring is helping the sixth graders transition to the middle school,” explains Mrs.

Wheeler. Mentoring is a way of helping sixth graders be confident in themselves and to

make new friends. The eighth graders do a mini - lesson with the sixth graders. They play

games and give helpful tips about different topics every week. This week’s lesson was,

“Play it safe and cool at school events.”

Mentoring is every non-PLC Wednesday through February.

Movie Goers Get Goosebumps Most of the Goosebumps novels are featured in the new Goosebumps movie. The movie is a combination of books written by R.L. Stine. Director Rob Letterman brings various monsters from the Goosebumps library to life in this 2015 American 3D live-action, computer-animated horror comedy film. The movie features characters from at least 25 of Stine's books.

Zach Conner, played by Dylan Minnette, teams up with his new neighbor, Hannah, played by Odeya Rush and new friend Champ, played by Ryan Lee. They are joined by Hannah’s dad, R.L. Stine, who is played by Jack Black. Together, they fight the monsters from the Goosebumps books when they are released into the world of the small town of Greenland, Maryland. The human characters’ job is to capture the monsters and use techniques from the novels to maneuver the monsters back into their correct book. This is a good movie to see with family and friends and a great representation of the Goosebumps novels written by R.L. Stine.

Boo! Does Halloween Scare You?

October 31, the night where the dead come alive, and kids run around getting candy, is the day we all know as Halloween. Here in America, Halloween is best known for jack-o-lanterns, haunted houses, and as the night where kids dress up in costumes and go door to door getting treats. However, this holiday was originally named All Hallows’ Eve originating when ancient Celt, Christian and Roman cultures would light bonfires and wear costumes to scare off roaming ghosts and spirits. Students at PCMS, celebrate Halloween in different ways, doing different things. Nine out of 15 kids surveyed go trick or treating. Three out of 15 kids like watching scary movies. Others do an abundance of things. Other choices are going to horrifying haunted houses where there’s something new around every corner or maybe just staying home handing out candy or jumping out of the bushes to scare people. Stay safe this Halloween and most of all, have fun!
