Durga Pooja and Vijaya Dashami festival
Vijaya Dashami festival was celebrated in
DLW Township on 18th October at DLW Stadium,
which was attended by huge crowd. The programme
started on that day with the offering of Poojan & Arti
to Bhagavan Shri Ram, Sita & Laxman by chief
guest Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, other
officers and office bearers of Vijaya Dashami Samiti.
On this occasion depicting the various characters of Ramleela, children of DLW family
enacted the excerpts from the epic Ramayan as well as beautiful & attractive fireworks and burning
of effigies of Ravan, Kumbhakaran & Meghnad were also displayed.
On this occasion officers, employees, their
families, friends as well as civil authorities of
Varanasi including distinguished persons of the city
were present in a large number.
Durga Pooja was also celebrated in Community
Hall and Shiva Kali Mandir at DLW Township with
traditional gaiety and religious fervour. On this
occasion, Maa Durga idols were installed in tastefully decorated Pandals. During the Navaratri,
Maha-Sasthi, Maha-Saptami, Maha-Astami and Maha-Navami puja and other rituals were
performed with great enthusiasm. The festival
concluded with the immersion of Maa Durga idols in
Ganga Sarovar. On this occasion different colourful
cultural programmes were also organised at
Community Hall and Shiva Kali Mandir. During the
Vijaya Dashami and Durga Pooja festival DLW R.P.F.,
Civil Defence, St. Johan's Ambulance Brigade, Scouts
& Guides and other social service organisations also
extended their co-operation in seating arrangement, tracing out and handing over of the missing
children to their parents and control the gathering.
Meeting of Town Official Language Implementation Committee
Half yearly meeting of Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC) was heldon 11th October at Technical Training Centre Auditorium. It was presided over by Smt. RashmiGoel, General Manager & President, Town Official Language Implementation Committee, Varanasi.
Heads/representatives of various central govt. departments and autonomous organisationsattended this meeting. Discussing the guidelines of Parliamentary Official Language Committee,Smt. Goel suggested the members to study the prescribed questionnaire carefully and identifyingthe lapses to remove them.
On this occasion, GM Smt. Goelhonoured the TOLIC member offices by givingthem shields and certificates for theircommendable performance in promotingRajbhasha in official works. In which, DieselLocomotive Works got first place, followed byDivisional Railway Manager, North EasternRailway and Textile Testing Laboratory(Central Silk Board) on second and thirdplaces respectively. In Central Govt.Undertakings/Corporations category, LifeInsurance Corporation of India got first place,followed by All India Radio and Doordarshanon second and third places respectively. Whereas, Banaras Hindu University, Cantonment Boardand Directorate general of mine security bagged Inspiration award in Central Govt. officescategory.
Earlier, Mukhya Rajbhasha Adhikari & Vice-President TOLIC welcomed the Heads andRepresentatives of member offices and threw light upon the activities of TOLIC and DLW in the fieldof Rajbhasha promotion. On this occasion, representative of Hindi Council Shri J.N.Roy as well asother Heads/Representatives of various central govt. departments and autonomous organizationsexpressed their views and put valuable suggestions for the promotion Rajbhasha. VaristhaRajbhasha Adhikari and Member Secy./TOLIC conducted the whole programme efficiently.
Various programme organized at DLW on the occasion of 150 th Birth Anniversary ofMahatma Gandhi
150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was
celebrated as the National Cleanliness Day at Diesel
Locomotive Works by all officers, employees and their
family members on 02nd October, 2018. On this
occasion, Smt. Rashmi Goel, General Manager along
with all HODs, officers, Staff Council members and
employees took part in Special Cleanliness Drive at
Cinema Hall premises.
To mark the occasion, General Manager Smt. Rashmi Goel along with all HODs, officers,
Staff Council members and employees sapling plants
on the premises of Cinema Hall.
On the occasion of National Cleanliness Day,
massive cleanliness drive was launched at whole DLW
premises by DLW officers & employees. Railway
Protection Force as well as the volunteers of Civil
Defence, St. John’s Ambulance Brigade and Bharat
Scouts & Guides also took active part in this drive.
In this addition, People were made aware through street plays and puppet shows at the
places of Gumti Market, Sabzi Market, Surya Sarovar etc presented by the artists of DLW Cultural
Association. As well as, Shramdan work was done by
official, artists, employees and local citizens at
defferent places.
It is mentionable here that, under the directive
of Ministry of Railways, Government of India,
“Swachhata Hi Seva-Pakhwada” was organized on the
entire Indian Railways from 15th September to 02nd
October. In this scenario ‘Swachhata Awareness’ on
15th September, ‘Swachh Samwad’ on 16th & 18th September, ‘Swachh Station’ on 18th & 19th
September, ‘Swachh Railgadi’ on 20th & 21st September, ‘Seva Diwas’ on 22nd September, ‘Swachh
Parisar’ on 23rd & 24th September, ‘Swachh Ahar’ on 25th & 26th September, ‘Swachh Neer’ on 27th &
28th September, ‘Swachh Prasadhan’ on 29th September, ‘Swachh Competition’ on 30th September
and ‘Review/Briefing’ on 01st October were organized at DLW.

Vishwakarma Puja
As in past, the poojanotsav of the god of the craft, art and creation Lord Vishwakarma was
celebrated this year too at Diesel Locomotive
Works on 17th September. On this holy occasion,
decorating their shops and workplaces tastefully
with flowers and colourful paper clippings, DLW
employees installed beautiful and attractive
portraits of Lord Vishwakarma there. They offered
pooja and aarti to Lord Vishwakarma with
performing proper rituals.
On this occasion, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer along with other HODs, officers, their
family members and friends visited various shops in the workshop area and other workplaces in the
township, where employees welcomed them with enthusiasm. Offering poojan and aarti to Lord
Vishwakarma, they actively participated in Pujanotsav
and received Prasad.
It is remarkable that to contribute at a
large in the clean ganga campaign, this year also
DLW family installed the portraits of Lord
Viswakarma in place of clay idols at
Vishwakarma Poojanotsav as per previous year.
On this occasion, a large fair was visible at DLW premises and workshop, where DLW
officers, employees, their families & friends enjoyed the fair as well as witnessed and offered
poojan to the beautifully decorated attractive tableau of Lord Vishwakarma in various shops at
workshop and township.
Rajbhasha Pakhwada Samaroh
Under the auspices of Diesel Locomotive Works Rajbhasha Department, RajbhashaPakhwada Samaroh was organised from 01st to 14th September with variety of programmes. TheMain function of the fortnight long programmes was a seminar on "Hindi Bhasha Aur HumaraSamaaj" held on 14th September at Technical Training Centre auditorium. On this occasion, theguest speaker Dr. Ram Kirti Shukla, Ex. Professor,English Department, Banaras Hindu University saidthat Hindi is the language of our soul. The voice ofIndian soul is expressed in Indian languages only.We have to try that Indian languages do not forget
its tone by becoming over influenced with English.
Lauding the use of Hindi in the Railways he saidthat do the administrative and office work in theconceivable language with assimilating the wordsof all languages, So that interaction with the publicmay be feasible.
On this occasion, presiding over the seminar, Principal Chief Material Manager said thatHindi is our language. We are committed to ensure the cent-percent compliance of Rajbhasha Hindi
in administrative work. Today's requirement is thisthat we include the Official Language Hindi in ourdaily routine and fully assimilate it. We have toemphasize writing simple and convincing Hindi andshould not depend on translation.
Earlier, Principal Chief Material Manager alsoawarded to officers and employees for winningvarious Hindi competitions, as well as for doingexcellent and maximum work in Hindi.
Earlier, welcoming the guests and speakers in seminar Mukhya Rajbhasha Adhikari focussedupon the fortnight long programmes and said that in the era of globalisation, not only in India butthroughout the world our Rajbhasha Hindi has been hoisting its flag, which assure us that thefuture of Hindi is safe.
The programme started with the lighting of lamp by Principal Chief Material Manager alongwith guest speaker Dr. Shukla and Mukhya Rajbhasha Adhikari Shri Pandey jointly. On thisoccasion, HODs, officers and employees were present in a large number. Citing the messages ofMinister of Home Affairs and Minister of Railways on the occasion of Hindi Diwas VarishthaRajbhasha Adhikari conducted the whole programme efficiently and also proposed the vote ofthanks at the end.
The fortnight long programme were included Symposiums for supervisors and nodal officers,Quiz Competitions of officers and employees, Technical Seminar on Safety, Indian LanguageSeminar, Hindi poetry-story reciting seminar, Inspection, desk training and inspiration etc.

Communal Harmony Day was observed on 20th August at DLW. On this occasion, Shri Bimal

16th August, 2018. In the review/coordination
meeting, he discussed in detail about the
steps to be taken for increasing in the
production of electric locomotives.
On this occasion, Member/Traction emphasised on sharing of material and the technical
information related to the production of electric locomotives.
In the meeting officers of DLW viz S/Shri, Suneet Sharma, PMCE, Bimal Rautji, PCMM,
J.N.Pandey, PFA, Sudhir Ranjan, PCEE, Anupam Sharma, EDME/Traction, Railway Board, Ramesh
Kumar, Chief Administrative Officer/R, DMW, Rajnish Bansal, Chief Planning Officer, DMW, Ram
Prakash, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer/D&D, CLW and Shri A.K.Goswami, Director, Electrical
Engineering/RS, Railway Board were present.
Earlier, Member/Traction Shri Singh
went round the workshop along with PCME
Shri Sharma and other officers. During the
visit of workshop, he took keen interest in the
progress of conversion of HHP diesel
locomotives to Electric Locomotives and
inspected the under manufacturing 2 X 6000
HP WAG-11 locomotive and expressed
satisfaction over the progress.
Independence Day Celebration at DLW
72nd Independence Day was celebrated on 15th August,
2018 at DLW Stadium with the presentation of colourful cultural
programme by the children of DLW based schools. The
programme started with the hoisting of National Flag by Principal
Chief Mechanical Engineer Shri Suneet Sharma, followed by the
inspection of parade of Railway Protection Force, St. John’s
Ambulance Brigade, Civil Defence, Bharat Scouts, Guide, Cubs,
Bulbuls and Inter College Scouts & Guides. On this occasion,
focussing upon the contribution and sacrifices of freedom fighters
for the independence of the country Shri Sharma highlighted the
production and other activities of DLW including achievements of
all the departments of DLW.
In this function, chief guest Shri Sharma distributed the prizes to the meritorious students
of DLW Inter College. Shri Sharma also distributed the needed equipments to the DIVYANG
employees and their DIVYANG dependents. Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, PRO proposed the vote of
thanks at the end of the programme and Shri Amlesh Srivastava conducted the whole programme.
The programme concluded with the distribution of fruit packets to the indoor patients of
DLW Central Hospital by chief guest Shri Sharma, members of DLW Women's Welfare
Organisation, principal officers and members of Staff Council.

All India Railway Protection Force Badminton Championship
Under the auspices of DLW Railway
Protection Force All India RPF (Gazetted and Non-
Gazetted) Badminton Championship was organised
from 24th to 28th July at Badminton Hall of DLW
Officer's Club. It was inaugurated by Shri Pradeep
Kumar Singh, Principal Chief Personnel Officer by
introducing with the participating players and
announcing the opening of the championship.
The championship concluded on 28th July with
the announcing of closure of tournament by Shri
Suneet Sharma, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer.
Shri Sharma also gave away prizes to the winner &
runner team as well as individual participants. In this
Championship, on the basis of maximum points South Western Railway was declared Champion
and Central Railway got runner-up.
At the end of the championship, Shri
Kamleshwar Singh, Assistant Security Commissioner
proposed the vote of thanks and Shri Amlesh
Srivastav conducted the programme.
57 Officials & Jawans of Host NER (DLW, RPF Affiliated) including SWR, NWR, WR, EcoR,
SCR, NR, NCR, CR and RPSF participated in this championship.
Renewal of "Quality", "Environment", "Health and Safety" certificates of DLW
Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi has got renewal, with the newer version, of the three
important certificates. After been audited by auditors of M/s LMS Certification Pvt., Lucknow from
26th to 28th June, DLW has received the new version along with renewal of Quality Management
System - ISO 9001:2015, Environment Management System - ISO 14001:2015 and Health &
Safety Management System - OHSAS 18001:
2007. The above three certificates will remain
valid till June-2021. These certificates will help
establish confidence of customers in the
quality of products of DLW and will also be
helpful to DLW for export of its locomotives.
General Manager Smt. Rashmi Goel made all the three certificates public in a simple
ceremony on 04th July. Expressing her views she described this it as a reward for the collective
efforts of officers and employees. On this occasion, all HODs and officers were present in this
meeting.
