13 willing volunteers took to the sports hall on 24th April to try their hand atwalking football Walking canrsquot possibly give you a good workout can it Afterall you are just walking around How wrong was that During the session myfitbit recorded at least 5000 steps for just one hours exercise Thatrsquos half therecommended amount for the day

The rules were straightforward No running keep the ball below head heightand have some fun Although a few people thought they were Lionel Messi ()the session was generally light hearted and people were surprised what agood workout it was

The aim of walking football is to include all levels of fitness and skills It is a gamefor everyone and we did have 3 ladies take part although we could do with afew more next time

The next session is booked for Monday 8th May 1200 -1300 in the sports hallEveryone welcome Free to HASSRA members and pound300 to non HASSRA Pleasecontact Dawn if you want any more information

This will be followed by two separate Cup ampPlate tournaments both consisting of Semis ampFinals

I anticipate that up to ten teams will enterthough we can cope with more if there is thedemand If you want to take part but donrsquothave a team please let me know and I cansort something out

Goals will do the entire organisation for us andprovide the referees so we can concentrateon the football

The walkA fairly stretching 10 mile walk in spectacular Penninescenery along two sides of a deep valley that will entail somedescents and climbs

The walk starts from the Holmfirth Vineyard with the express purpose of sampling their breakfast menu(as it smelt really good back in August when we set out from there) From here we descend downinto the valley crossing the reservoir before ascending to Holme via a pretty forested valley andhidden house From here it is a steadyish climb through open country to Upperthong a descent intoHolmfirth and we finish with another steady climb back to the start point

ClothingWeather in the Pennines can be variable and much of the walk is in open countryside Please ensureyou bring additional warm layers and waterproofs good boots are essential as a number of thepaths are uneven and may be slippery if the weather is wet

Quarry House Angling Club Open DaySaturday 22nd July 2017

Fishing is one of the largest participative sports in the UK It is well documented that it canhelp youngsters to participate in activity in the open air away from the television and givethem a focus and interest

Why not find out what you have been missing Perhaps yoursquove dabbled before and wouldlike to get back into it

The Quarry House Angling Club has arranged its eleventh open day at Kippax Park Fisherynear Leeds for you to do just that You your partner or any member of your family arecordially invited to join club members and try your hand at the art of coarse fishing ndashaccompanied children are especially welcome

Members of the club will be in attendance between 10am to 300pm to advise you justcome down and spend as long as you like All licences tackle and bait will be supplied ndashplease wear suitable footwear if possible bring something to sit on and a towel might beuseful
