Sri G Mohan Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, GOI made his maidenvisit to the state-of-the-art new Blast Furnace-3 on 1st Dec. Hecomplimented all furnace staff and engineers on this occasion. Sri MohanKumar visited Model Room & Awards Gallery, major production units likeRaw Material Handling Plant, Coke Ovens, BF-1, SMS-1, WRM-1 and expansionunits Blast Furnace-3, Steel Melt Shop-2, Wire Rod Mill-2 etc. Earlier, theSteel Secretary witnessed a Corporate Presentation of RINL and interactedwith the top management and made several suggestions forimprovements in techno-economic parameters and for achieving moreinternational bench marks in its operations. Sri Mohan Kumar whilereviewing the performance of RINL, deeply interacted on currentexpansion, on-going modernization projects, new facilities for

increasing the yieldof liquid steel etc.S/Sri P Madhusudan, CMD, Umesh Chandra, D(O), TK Chand, D(C),YR Reddy, D(P), PK Mohapatra, D(Proj.), B Siddhartha Kumar, IFS, CVO,Rohitashwa Kumar, Senior Commandant, CISF, EDs, GMs and other seniorofficials participated in the interaction. Sri Mohan Kumar also visited Kanithi Balancing Reservoir(KBR) against the backdrop of insufficient water supply from Yeleru to theplant and township.

Create New Manufacturing Facilities: Steel Secretary

Sri P Madhusudan, assumed charge as the 9th Chairman-cum-Managing Directorof Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam SteelPlant on 1st January. Sri Madhusudan joined RINL as Director (Finance) in 2009and played a significant role in financial performance of the Company andpioneered in introduction of e-payments to the customers/suppliers which waswidely acknowledged in the entire Indian Steel Industry. Sri Madhusudan will beat the helm of affairs at RINL for the next five years, as the Company is planningto expand the capacity to reach to 11-12 mtpa and aspiring to become a"Maharatna" Company soon. The new CMD visualized a very bright future for theplant and said utmost priority shall be given for adopting cost control measuresacross the plant. Sri Madhusudan, a top class Chartered Accountant in profession,played an effective treasury management including obtaining low cost funds toRINL both in working capital as well as long-term funds required for capital expenditure during the expansion of the NavratnaCompany. He was instrumental in hedging the FOREX risks and ensured minimum impact of rupee/dollar fluctuations.

Sri P Madhusudan assumes charge as New CMD of RINL

India's largest Forged Wheel Plant projects 'Agreement' was signed betweenRINL and Indian Railways in the presence of Hon'ble Union Minister of Steel,Shri Beni Prasad Verma and Hon'ble Union Minister of Railways, ShriMallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi. Sri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Minister ofState for Railways was also present on this occasion. Hon'ble Railway Minister,complimented Sri Beni Prasad Verma , Hon'ble Minister of Steel ,for theinitiatives of Ministry of Steel for development of steel industry in India andfor strengthening the cooperation between both the Ministries. The ForgedWheel Plant at Lalganj, Raebareli will be set up near Rail Coach Factory inUttar Pradesh and will produce 1 lakh Forged Wheels per annum in the Firstphase for 'Locos and High speed trains' with an investment of about Rs. 1100

crores. The capacity of the plant will be doubled in the Second phase for a production of over 2 lakh wheels per annum.

The Factory will become operational in 36 months from order placement date and will provide employment to about 500 to 600people. The unit will have an added locational advantage due to its proximity with the Rail Coach Factory, Raebareli. RINL willsupply Steel Cast Rounds to the Wheel Plant from its state of the art new Caster being installed with German technology at itsunit at Visakhapatnam. S/Sri G Mohan Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Steel) and Arunendra Kumar, Chairman, Railway Board alsospoke on the national significance of import substitution project. Members of the Railway Board, senior officials of Ministry ofSteel & Ministry of Railways, Directors of RINL were also present during the signing of the Agreements.

Global Honours for Vizag Steel QC TeamsVizag Steel Plant Quality Circle (QC) teams once again camewith flying colours at International Convention on Quality ControlCircles (ICQCC-2013) held at Taipei, Taiwan. The three teamsparticipated at the convention annexed "Excellence" awards,the highest recognition at the international convention.Thewinning teams were congratulated for bringing global laurels tothe organization and mentioned that the awards truly reflectedthe commitment of the teams to take forward the QC movementinternationally. S/Sri DS Sastry, ED (Maint), V Narayanan, GM(MS) and N Sundaram, Sr.Mgr (MS) participated in the

International Convention. VSP's QC team "Prerana" of Wire Rod Mill dept consisting of S/Sri Somijit Mishra, S SrinivasasRao, AV Suryanarayana Rao, T Appa Rao, D Hari Babu, BV Mallikarjana Rao and Md Madina Basha presented their QCcase study on "Avoiding bending of Hook conveyor structure".

QC team "Abhilasha" of Raw Material Handling Plant dept consisting of S/Sri TV Ramana, KV Rao, E Srinivasa Rao,N Atcha Rao, K Appa Rao, K Sebastian, M Geetanjali, presented their QC case study on "Increasing the reliability ofWagon Tippler".

QC team "Lakshya" of Coke Ovens & Coal Chemical Plant dept consisting of S/Sri Susanta Patnaik, SM Katole, ASrinivasa Varma, KVG Patro, NS Bharani, KA Naidu, GRV Soma Raju presented their QC case study on "Roller typeCatenary Power Collectors.". Quality Circle (QC) teams and delegates from various organizations from 15 countries viz.India, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Korea, Philippines, Japan, Thailand, USA, SouthAfrica, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka participated in the International Convention. A total number of about 400 delegatesparticipated from India, and presented 72 QC Case Studies.

Sri Syedain Abbasi, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel observed thatRINL is a modern, well run plant and most environment-friendly superiorplant in the entire Indian Steel Industry. He made this observation afterwitnessing a Corporate presentation & interaction with senior managementof RINL during his maiden visit to Visakhapatnam on 21st Oct. Sri Abbasiheaped all praise for RINL for maintaining "Clean & Green" environmentnot only in the plant but also in the township. He expressed confidencethat RINL would soon get its raw material securitization and the Ministryof Steel is doing its best to achieve it.

Sri Abbasi visited the Model Room and Awards Gallery and was taken around the new units in the expansion. During theplant visit, S/Sri Umesh Chandra,D(O), NS Rao, Former D(Proj.) explained the latest know-how incorporated in the plantand production from the new units to the visiting dignitary. He advised the officials of RINL to work hard to stabilize thenews units to enhance the production levels. Sri P Madhusudan, CMD while briefing the prudent financial managementbeing implemented in the company, said RINL has carried out the expansion with total internal accruals and he has alsomentioned that the Company has got the capability to meet the expenditure for the on-going modernization of theexisting units from its own resources. "RINL - An Environment-friendly Plant in the Country"

"Significant Achievement Award" for RINLRINL bagged the "Significant Achievement" Award of CII-EXIM Bankfor Business Excellence 2013. The honours were presented by SriTCA Ranganathan, CMD, Export & Import Bank of India at the CIINational Quality Summit at Bangalore. Sri PC Mohapatra,D(Proj.),Leader of Core Team for Excellence of RINL, received theaward on behalf of RINL. The award demonstrates RINL's capabilityto deliver excellence, through engagement of employees at everylevel towards continuous improvement and creation of a supportingenvironment. Rejuvenated efforts towards business excellence wereinitiated in the company through a time bound programme forinculcating and driving a culture of Business Excellence "ProjectUtkarsh" launched in 2011. The company after putting in around 18 months of concerted efforts in improving the maturitylevel of its processes had entered the competition. The team of CII assessors visited the company during the first week ofOctober for onsite assessment for the award. The team had interacted with senior leaders to assess the degree of strategicalignment and constancy of purpose in the organization. The team had appreciated RINL on various role modelling practiceslike annual sustainability planning process, rigour on micro level analysis of costs and contribution, optimum utilization ofraw materials and recycling of waste, focus on energy efficiency, Knowledge Management System - GNANA etc.

Sri P C Mohapatra, assumed charge as D(Proj.) of RINL, VisakhapatnamSteel Plant. He has 34 years of rich experience in Projects, Operation andMaintenance in Steel and Power sectors. Sri Mohapatra is a MechanicalEngineering graduate of 1980 batch from REC, Rourkela, presently an NIT.Before assuming the charge as D(Proj), Sri Mohapatra served as ED(Proj).After graduation, Sri P C Mohapatra joined BHEL in the year 1980 as GraduateEngineer Trainee and worked in M/s BHEL for 8 years in various capacities.During his service at M/s BHEL, he was involved in Power Project Erection &Commissioning of different BHEL Power Plants in India varying from 22 MWto 500 MW units and earned rich knowledge in Erection & Commissioning ofThermal Power Plants. In December 1988, he joined VSP and served in variouspositions right from Deputy Manager to Executive Director. He looked afterOperation & Maintenance of Thermal Power Plant, state-of-the-art Rolling

Mills at VSP. Later for four years, he spearheaded the maintenance of the total Plant. As ED (Projects), Sri PCMohapatra was in-charge for 6.3 mtpa expansion units Erection and Commissioning along with major Modernisation/Upgradation projects.

The Assessment team for Prime Minister's Trophy 2012-13 headed bySri JC Aylawadi, an industry expert visited VSP from 26th to 28th Nov toassess the performance of RINL on different parameters. The othermembers the team include Prof ML Saikumar, Dean (Academics), Instituteof Public Enterprises (IPE), S/Sri S Satish Kumar, Senior Faculty, (IPE) andRanbhir Singh, JSW.

The team witnessed a corporate presentation of RINL by Corporate StrategicManagement (CSM) Department highlighting the performance of theCompany for the year 2012-13. The team interacted with top management& HODs on various aspects like leadership, ethics, policy & strategy,suggestions, QCs, competency development, issues related to employeewelfare, CSR, energy, water & cost reduction, supply chain issues,modernization & capital repairs, IT management etc. The team criticallyevaluated various enabling parameters stipulated for assessment of PM's Trophy during the interactions. RINL has baggedthe PM's Trophy twice during 2002-03 & 2005-06 and Steel Minister's Trophy for 2006-07 & 2009-10 for excellent performanceamongst the integrated steel plants in the country.

PM's Trophy 2012-13: Team visits RINL

"VIGIL"- an application for Vigilance Department was launchedon the occasion of "Vigilance Awareness Week" at a function heldin VSP on 28th Oct. Sri B Siddhartha Kumar, IFS, CVO in his welcomeaddress said that the objective of the "Vigil" was to monitor thecomplaints in a systematic, transparent and electronic way forbetter handling, archival, retrieval and reporting. S\Sri Sri PMadhusudan, CMD, Umesh Chandra, D(O), TK Chand, D(C),YR Reddy, D(P), Sri NS Rao, Former D(Proj.), P Ramulu,ED(Automation) and senior officials of IT and Vigilance departmentwere present on the occasion. Sri RKL Bhatia, GM (Vigilance)proposed vote of thanks.

The Vigilance Awareness Week was observed in RINL as per thedirectives of Central Vigilance Commission. The week long

programme started with administering the "Vigilance Pledge" in all the departments of RINL. The theme "Promoting GoodGovernance - Positive Contribution of Vigilance" was promoted through elocution and skit competitions for the schoolchildren and slogan and quiz competitions for the employees of RINL . Sri Girish Bhatnagar, Retd GM, East Central Railway,delivered a guest lecture on the concluding day on 31st Oct.

Sri Vasudeva Rao was the Chief Guest at the valedictory function of Vigilance Awareness Week. S\Sri Umesh Chandra,D(O), TK Chand, D(C), YR Reddy, D(P), PC Mohapatra, D(Proj.), B Siddhartha Kumar, IFS, CVO, RINL graced the occasion.Messages of Hon'ble President of India, Prime Minister of India, Chief Vigilance Commissioner were read out on theoccasion. Cultural programme, skit by school children highlighting ethical values and curbing of corruption in the societyattracted the audience. Later, the dignitaries distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions organized duringthe Vigilance Awareness week. Senior officials of RINL, union leaders, members of Visteel Mahila Samiti participated inthe function.

Phailin Cyclone: RINL's Gesture to OdishaA three member team from RINL was sent with 125 KV Capacity mobile generator set to Chhatrapur, the headquarters of

Ganjam district to help Phailin victims in Odisha. RINL team's initiative of operation and maintenance of the generator

helped restore power in Chhatrapur. The district administration of Ganjam expressed gratitude to RINL for timely help in

restoring power in cyclone stricken areas of Ganjam.

Need to adopt Best Practices in Coke MakingSri AP Choudhary, Former CMD, expressed confidence that the "45th Operating Committee

meeting on Coal, Coke & Chemicals" would provide useful inputs to improve the health

and life of Coke Oven batteries in Indian Steel Industries. He complimented the organizers

for choosing relevant topics like "Recent innovations in Coke Ovens & Coals Chemicals"

and "Operation and maintenance of Zero leak doors of Coke Oven Batteries" during the

technical sessions. Inaugurating the meet, Sri Umesh Chandra, D(O), highlighted the

need to adopt best practices in Coke making since coke is a backbone of steel industry.

Sri PC Mohapatra, D(Proj.) said that coke making is extremely technical and labour oriented

process and mentioned that coke making industry has to comply with government standards as the effluents are harmful to the

society. Sri R Ranjan, ED(Works) I/c said that coke making is the costliest component in steel industry and faced challenges in

protecting the environment.Sri Ashutosh Gupta, Secretary of the meeting said that there is every need to safeguard the health and

life of coke oven batteries against the backdrop of several innovation emerging in coke making. Sri Hukhum Singh, GM (CO&CCP)

I/c welcomed the gathering. Sri R Nagarajan, GM (Coke Ovens) proposed vote of thanks. Delegates from public and private sector

steel plants across the country participated in the two day meet.

Blast Furnace 3 achieves Rated CapacityRINL crossed another significant milestone as the state-of-the-art Blast Furnace-3

achieved the rated capacity. It is a major step forwards expansion project of

6.3 mtpa capacity of RINL. The 3800 cum volume Blast Furnace produced 7155 tons

of Hot Metal against the rated capacity of 7150 tons/day with a BF productivity of

2.2 tons/per/cum/day. Sri Beni Prasad Verma, Hon'ble Union Minster of Steel,

Sri G Mohan Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Steel congratulated the RINL collective

for the stupendous performance achieved in the 6.3 mtpa capacity.

World AIDS Day observedVisakha Steel General Hospital (VSGH) organized AIDS Rally with School Children of Ukkunagaram on 30th Nov on the

occasion of World AIDS Day. The rally was flagged off by Sri G N Murthy, ED(Finance) and presided over by Dr. M.K.Tripathy,

GM (M&HS). About 200 children from various schools located in Ukkunagaram, Master Trainers from VSP, Doctors and Staff

of VSGH and OHS&RC, participated in the rally in the township. Dr.G.Shanti, SDMO welcomed the gathering on the occasion.Dr.

D.V.N.Sharma, DGM (M&HS), Dr.G.Srihari, CS (Derm), Dr.S.Jyothi, AGM (Med), Dr.Purnima Tiru, AGM (Med), Dr. S.Rajasekhar,

DCS (Paeds), Dr.A Ravishankar Rao, SDMO, Dr. K.Srikanth, DMO, etc. were present at the programme. Dr MK Tripathy, GM

(M&HS) explained the school children about the World AIDS Day Theme for 2013 i.e. "Zero Incidence of Infection; Zero

Discrimination; Zero AIDS Related Death" and steps taken by VSGH to achieve the goal. Dr M Sravan Kumar, AGM (Med)

VSGH Foundation Day CelebratedThe 22nd Foundation Day of VSGH has been

celebrated on the 27th Dec. On this occasion Shri

Y.R.Reddy, D(P) was the Chief Guest and Dr. P. Vijay

Anand Reddy, Director, Apollo Cancer Hospital

Hyderabad was the Guest of Honor delivered a

lecture on "What is new in cancer?".

A book entitled "Blood Line" containing the details

of willing blood donors of VSP employees, compiled

by Dr. SanthiPriya, I/C VSGH Blood bank, has been released. While addressing on

this occasion, Shri Y. R. Reddy said, that the doctors need to continuously update their knowledge by attending training

programmes and other academic activities. Dr. M.K.Tripathy, GM, also spoke on this occasion and elaborated the facilities

available to VSGH in recent times. On this occasion Dr. Koppachi Krishna Murthy Gold Medal for Best Medical Officer2013 is awarded to the Dr. E. Sri Ngesh and Smt Y. Lakshmi Prabhakar Gold Medal for Best Nurse 2013 is awarded to the

sister K. Jhancy Mary. Doctors and paramedical staff attended the function

Vidyalaya Diwas CelebratedVizag Steel celebrated "Vidyalaya Diwas" at Ukkunagaram with great enthusiasm evinced by the children of Ukkunagaram

schools. Prof Jayanta Mahapatra, the renowned English Poet was the Chief Guest and Sri YR Reddy, D(P) was the guest of

honour on the occasion. Prof Mahapatra expressed delight at the massive greenery in and around the plant and complimented

the management for creating an excellent environment for the education of Ukkunagaram children. Prof Mahapatra and Sri

Reddy presented "Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Merit Cash award" and "Col CK Naidu Sports Merit cash awards" to the children

of Ukkunagaram for excellence in education and sports arena. Principals of Ukkunagaram schools were felicitated on the

occasion. The school children of Ukkunagaram staged a cultural programme that cheered the audience. Personnel Department

and Principals of Ukkunagaram schools organized the event successfully. Senior officers, SEA representatives, union leaders,

SC&ST association members and a large number of employees participated.

Adopt Clean Steel Making Technologies: Former CMDThe 46th Steel Making Operating Committee (SMOC) 2013 was hosted

by RINL on 13th Dec. The increase in usage of steel for a variety of

applications is exerting demand for steel with better mechanical

properties, thereby urging the steel producers to improve the cleanliness

of the products.S/Sri PC Mohapatra, D(Proj.) and PN Rao, GM (Steel) I/

c, hoped that the meet would deliberate and come out with useful

suggestions in improving clean steel making technologies.Sri YV

making aims towards production of high end steel products.Sri Amitava

Sri T Amrutha Rao rememberedSri T Amrutha Rao's 93rd Jayanthi was celebrated in Ukkunagaram

. The chief guest, Sri NS Rao, Former D(Proj.) garlanded the statue

of Sri Amrutha Rao and paid rich tributes to the great freedom

fighter. Speaking on the occasion, Sri Rao observed that Sri Amrutha

Rao played a vital role in the establishment of Vizag Steel Plant

and recalled his services to the society. Senior officials,

representatives of SEA, union leaders S\Sri D Adinarayana, N Rama

Rao, Balireddy Satyanaranaya, Mastanappa, representatives of

SC&ST Association and a large number of employees offered tributes

to Sri Amrutha Rao.

Bal Mela Enthrals Special KidsFormer CMD Sri AP Choudhary inaugurated "Bal Mela" at "Arunodaya Special

School" organised on17th Nov. S/Sri P Madhusudan, CMD, Umesh Chandra, D(O),

YR Reddy, D(P) and Sri PC Mohapatra, D(Proj) grace the occasion. Bal Mela is

the first major event of Arunodaya to create awareness/sensitize about disability

in the society. 'Friends of Arunodaya' an initiative of young brigade of VSP

organised this meaningful event in association with CSR department of VSP to

increase public participation in all activities associated with educating the

differently abled children. Schools in and around of Ukkunagarm participated in

large scale in this mela by putting up of stalls and by participating the various

competitions, thereby ,increasing awareness about the need for social inclusion

of these special children. Dance, Stage Play, Story Writing, Painting, Quiz, fashion

walk Competitions were conducted during this day long mela. Smt Lata Choudhary, Former President & Smt Sushma Chauhan,

Smt Annapurna Gowri, Smt Preeti Roy, Prof C Sasikala, Smt Bindu Mohapatra, Vice Presidents of VMS participated in the

concluding celebrations and distributed prizes to winners of various competitions. Around 250 children participated in various

competitions. To make the Bal Mela more eventful, 'Lunch with Special Guests" - a fund raising function was organised.

Sri R Shankar, ED(BD&A) interacted with the guests during lunch and photos were taken with individuals. Later CMD, Directors,

other dignitaries, children penned their best wishes and compliments to 'Friends of Arunodaya' group on the "Mela Wall".

AP Formation Day CelebratedRINL celebrated the Andhra Pradesh Formation Day with enthusiasm inUkkunagaram on 1st Nov. The Chief Guest Sri YR Reddy, D(P) garlandedthe statue of "Telugu Talli" situated at KBR Junction.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri Reddy recalled the sacrifices of greatleaders for the formation of the first linguistic state in the country andurged the employees to strive hard for the growth of the company.

Senior officials, representatives of SEA, union leaders S/Sri D Adinarayana,N Rama Rao, Mantri Rajsekhar, Padi Trinadha Rao, Mastanappa,B Pydiraju, Appala Raju and a large number of employees participated.

Proud Winners of Tata Crucible Quiz 2013Vizag Steel, represented by Mr J Rahul, AGM (HRD) & Mr AGK Murthy, AGM (Mech)won the prestigious "Tata Crucible Corporate Quiz 2013" National finals at the TajMahal Palace hotel, Mumbai. Over 2000 corporate teams participated in this year'scompetition, which incidentally was the 10th year of the quiz.

The "winning duo" were congratulated for bringing name and fame to theorganization. The achievement truly reflects the capability and ability of RINLemployees. S/Sri Umesh Chandra, D(O), YR Reddy, D(P) RINL also complimented theduo.

The quiz was held in three stages - regional, zonal and national levels. The VizagSteel team won the regional round at Visakhapatnam, the Eastern Zone final at

Kolkata and the national final at Mumbai. Vizag Steel battled with seven other teams in the National final and triumphedover them. The other teams were Oracle, IBM, Infosys, Chennai Silks, Savoi Faire, Reckitt Benckiser and Genpact.

Need to Strengthen R & DThe first Research Council meeting for R&D was held at VSPon 16th Oct. Members of Research Council - Prof V Ramaswamy,Professor of Department of Metallurgical Engineering, PSGCollege of Technology, Coimbatore; Dr S Srikanth, Director,National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur; Sri UmeshChandra, Director (Operations), RINL and Sri A K Mukherjee,GM (T&R) attended the meeting. S/Sri Ravindra Ranjan,ED(Works) I/c and Dr A. Syam Sundar, DGM (R&D) I/c alsoattended as special invitees.

The Research Council shall provide strategic directions forR&D and define its long term priorities. The Council would also facilitate collaborative research in strategic areas whereR&D would need expert support for achieving desired goals.

An Intranet Portal for Research & Development Department was launched during the meeting of Research Council for R&D.The portal serves as an information tool within RINL regarding the initiatives, facilities, research output details and allother activities of R&D Department.

RINL inks MOU with ABB India LtdRINL entered into an MOU with M/s ABB India Ltd, Bangalore on 18th Oct.The MOU aims to impart training programmes to RINL employees in theareas of automation, Process Control Automation etc.

The MOU was signed by Sri A Radhakrishna, GM(HRD) and Sri VemuriMadhav, country's Service Manager, ABB India Ltd in the presence ofS/Sri YR Reddy, D(P) and R Ranjan, ED(Works) I/c .

RINL has adopted latest state-of-the-art technologies in the areas ofautomation and other areas in the expansion. ABB India Ltd has advancetechnology and is a global leader in power and automation technology andsupplied major equipments to RINL in the expansion.

A seminar on "Companies Act 2013: Overview and DraftRules" was held at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant under theaegis of Ukkunagaram Continuous professional Education(CPE) Study Circle of ICAI.

Inaugurating the session Shri P.Madhusudan, CMD saidthat the Companies Act 1956 that lived about 60 Yearsneeded revision. Doing business has undergone a seachange in recent times specially due to advent ofInformation and Communication Technology andGlobalisation which requires simplification, clarity andbrevity of Companies Act. The new Companies Act wasrevised considering the entire gamut of CompanyIncorporation, Issue of Capital, Administration of companies, Structure regarding Independent Directors etc. While advisingthe gathering to take the maximum benefit out of the seminar, he exhorted the young professionals present to take activerole in the formation of various legislations by offering their valued suggestions to the Govt through Industry fora andother professional bodies.

Dr. CMA P.V.S. Jagan Mohan Rao, past president of Institute of Company Secretaries of India and Central Council Memberof Institute of Cost Accountants of India gave a lucid presentation on the topic. He extensively covered various issuesstarting from delegation of powers to Government, provisions relating to One Man Companies, sweeping changes thatbrought in Audit and Auditors including empowerment/responsibility to report occurrence of fraud to Government,e-provisions relating to share capital, e-accounts, directors qualifications, special code including eligibility/non-eligibilityof independent directors, Corporate Social Responsibility etc.

The program was well attended by the professional members including GMs S/Sri TVS Krishna Kumar, M.V. Rao, P. MohanRao, Sri G.N.Murty, ED(F&A) & Convener of the Study Circle, proposed vote of thanks.

While reposing confidence in RINL Collective, Govt. of India accorded approval for extending "Navratna" status to RINL forfurther one more year. RINL performance on all fronts, investment of major amount in expansion and modernization ofplant and completing all necessary formalities even for IPO were considered by Govt. of India in extending the "Navratna"status for another year.

The newly built Pump House 6A in the Blast Furnace -1 premises wasinaugurated on 27th Dec. by Sri AP Choudhary, Former CMD. This isa major milestone achieved in the modernization and Capital Repairsof Godavari (BF 1) which is being upgraded to increase the productioncapacity from the present 2 mtpa to 2.5 mtpa of Hot Metal. Thetechnologically upgraded Godavari uses Copper Staves and requiressoft water for better cooling efficiency and the newly constructedPump House supplies pressurized soft water to the copper coolingplates. S/Sri YR Reddy, D(P), PC Mohapatra, D(Proj), B SiddharthaKumar, IFS, CVO, R Ranjan, ED(Works) I/C, Executive Directors,senior officers participated. New Water System Facility for Godavari

RINL signed MOU with King George Hospital, Visakhapatnam on 29th Nov fordevelopment of infrastructure in KGH by establishing a multistoried hospital complexat old ENT building, KGH premises with a financial assistance of Rs. 2 Cr. duringthe current financial year and further financing annually in subsequent years. Withthis MOU, RINL-VSP joined along with other organizations in the city for developmentof the city's prestigious Hospital. S/Sri G.Madhava Rao, DGM(CSR) and Dr.P.Madhusudan Babu, Superintendent, KGH signed the MOU in the presence of SriP.M.M.G. Krishna, GM (CSR) and Dr. K.S.L.G. Sastry, C.S.R.M.O. and Dr. B. Move to Eradicate illiteracy With a noble aim and prime concern to empower the womenfolk of the surrounding villages of RINL/VSP and the tribalareas of Visakhapatnam i.e., Chepalapalem, Gangavaram colony, Durganagar, Islampeta, Devada, Duvvada, RasalammaColony, Dallivanipalem, Ramachandra Nagar (Rickshaw Colony-1), Rickshaw Colony-2, Minumuluru (Paderu mandal),Adult Literacy classes were organized in these villages through Pratham Education Foundation. 200 participants of eightcentres were awarded Certificates on successful completion of the one year course.

Medical Camp conductedA Medical Camp was organized on 27th Oct at Chepalapalem through Visakha Steel General Hospital (VSGH). Around 320patients attended the Medical Camp and utilized the services like screening for Blood Sugar, detection of Malaria infever cases, etc. During this Medical Camp, patients were also given required medicines. Special services extended inthis Camp included Paediatrics, Skin, Eye, Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Orthopaedics.10 numbers of Cataract caseswere also identified during the Camp.

Support to the deafRINL/VSP extended financial support to Deaf Enabled Foundation, a NGO, for organizing "A Friendship evening" on 16thNov, on the occasion of 56th International Day of the Deaf. There was a huge gathering of Deaf and Dumb childrenhailing from different special schools in Visakhapatnam and neighbouring districts on this occasion.To make thesechildren brim with confidence and to give an opportunity to showcase their talent, various competitions like Painting,Dancing, etc. were organized amongst them and Prizes were distributed to winners. VSP was the main sponsorer for thisevent and received appreciation from the public.

Training Programme for Security ForcesA Training Programme for facilitating employment opportunities in Security forces was conducted for 20 unemployedyouth of Nammidoddi and Islampeta, the surrounding villages of VSP on 12 Nov. This Training Programme was conductedthrough Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Visakhapatnam.

Cancer Detection CampCancer Detection Camp through "Sanjeevan" Mobile Van was organized by Lions Cancer Hospital on 27th Nov atDesapatrunipalem, Parawada Mandal, Visakhapatnam. This Mobile Van was provided by RINL/VSP as a CSR initiativetowards the People Care. During this Camp 107 patients were tested. Another Medical Camp was organized on 15thDecember through "Sanjeevan" Mobile Cancer Detection Van in association with Lions Cancer Hospital at Lankelapalem,Vizag district. Total 116 patients were screened and 2 positive cases were referred to Lions Cancer Hospital.

Helping Hand to KGHTo give a healing hand to the patients of North Coastal Andhra as well as neighbouring states, RINL-CSR signed a MOUwith King George Hospital on 29th Nov, for extending support to establish a Multi Storied Hospital complex in thepremises of KGH along with other PSEs.

Vocational Training ProgrammesVocational Training Programmes in LMV Driving, Dress Making, Fabric Painting and Beautician course were conducted atthe RH Colonies of Aganampudi, Vadlapudi, Pedagantyada and at the surrounding villages T. Devada and RickshawColony. 225 unemployed women and 200 unemployed youth were benefited from these courses.

Steel Secretary Praises CSR InitiativesSri G.Mohan Kumar, IAS, Secretary to Ministry of Steel, Govt. of India visited theArunodaya Special School, Ukkunagaram on 2nd December. He was accompanied bySri A.P.Choudhary, Former CMD, Sri Y.R.Reddy, Director (Personnel), Sri T.K.Chand,Director (Commercial), Smt.Lata Choudhary, Former President, Arunodaya Special School.

During the visit, Sri G.Mohan Kumar was appraised of various CSR activities andArunodaya School in particular. Sri Mohan Kumar was moved by the special focusbeing put by RINL CSR collective and the School staff in imparting training and makingthe differently abled children self-reliant with a variety of subjects and vocationaltraining programmes. Sri Mohan Kumar also distributed Uniforms to the School childrenon this occasion.

CSR activities through VMSVisteel Mahila Samithi (VMS), the ladies arm of CSR, RINL/VSP performed the following CSR activities for the benefitof the poor and needy:

On 1st Oct, 11 nos. of Desk-cum-Benches, 5 nos. of Round tables, 20 nos. of Plastic chairs were provided to MandalParishad Upper Primary School, E Marripalem, Vizag district by VMS members.

Merit Scholarships were given to 5 students of KGBV Residential School for girls, Achutapuram, Vizag, on 18th Nov, foracquiring highest marks in their classes from 6th to 10th classes

On 19th Nov, VMS members distributed College Uniforms to 79 girl students and 58 boys in the Government Junior Collegeat Parawada Mandal, Vizag district.

One Steel Almirah, 20 nos. of Desk-cum-Benches, 100 Plates, glasses, plastic buckets, utensils and play items were providedto Mandal Parishad Upper Primary School, Kurmannapalem on 20th November, 2013.

On 16th Dec, 2013, at MPP School, Drivers Colony, 10 nos. of Desk-cum-benches, 40 nos. of Tumblers, 2 nos. of Fans,2 nos.of Tube lights and one Steel almirah were distributed. A total no. of 40 students were benefited by this CSR initiative.

VMS distributed 23 nos. of Desk-cum-Benches, one steel stove and a few play items to MPP School, Pedamushidivada,Lankelapalem. A total no. of 69 students benefited from this CSR initiative.

Smt. Bindu Mohapatra, Vice President, VMS distributed 2 nos.almirahs, uniforms for students at Govt.Junior College,Islampeta and one no.generator, some utensils, one no. steel almirah to Govt.B.C.Hostel, Islampeta, on 18th November.

On 20th Dec,15 nos. of Desk-cum-Benches, 3 Tables and 3 Chairs, one no.Steel Stove, 2 nos. of fans were distributed MPPSchool, Makavarapalem mandal. 69 students were benefited from this CSR activity.

Visteel Mahila Samiti (VMS) established a 500 lt/hr Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Purifying Plant to Kendriya Vidyalaya in thepresence of Smt Preethi Roy, Smt Bindu Mohapatra, Vice Presidents and executive committee members of VMS at a simplefunction held in Ukkunagaram. The RO system consists of a 2000 litres andthe waste water is directed to the garden plants. This is a joint initiative ofVMS and KV.Sri Wilson David, Chairman of Vidyalaya Management Committee.Teachers and a large number of students participated.

In another function, the VMS distributed dual desks, almirah, steel plates,fans, steel glasses etc to the MPE school in Autonagar. VMS also distributeduniform material for both boys and girls studying in Govt Junior College,Islampeta. The executive members of VMS also distributed one inverter,UPS, fans, tube lights with fittings, steel plates, glass, water jugs, wiremess for windows, etc to the BC Hostel in Islampeta.

The school management appreciated the fine gestures of VMS for providingthe facilities to the school children.

VSP lifts Shuttle Badminton ChampionshipVSP annexed the Inter-Steel (SPSB) Shuttle Badminton Championship 2013-14held at Rourkela Steel Plant. Eight teams participated in the Championship. Inthe semi-finals, VSP beat Bhilai Steel Plant by 2-1, while in the finals, VSP beatTata Steel 2-0. The team was congratulated for bringing laurels to theorganization. The team members are: S/Sri K.P.Naik Naidu, Ch.Sanyasi Rao,M. Mohan Rao, R.Simhachalam, K.Y.Ratnam (Coach), P.Appa Rao (Manager),G.L.N.Murthy (Technical Official). Seminar on “Product Promotion”A seminar on "Good Construction Practices with Long Steel Products" wasorganized at Patna on 22nd Nov in association with Institute of SteelDevelopment & Growth (INSDAG) for promotion of RINL/VSP steel inConstruction Sectors. This was attended by Architects, Developers, Builders,Fabricators, Dealers and Construction Engineers. While inaugurating thisone day seminar, Sri T K Chand, D(C), RINL elaborated global and domesticsteel scenario and how steel majors are gearing up to meet the present andfuture challenges. S/ Sri S Mandal, DGM (Marketing), PQP and Y Sudhakar,GM (Mktg.), RS also attended the seminar. Quality aspects of RINL/VSPproducts and steel market scenario was presented by Sri Lalan Kumar,AGM(Mktg) - PP. Sri Shiladitya Chanda, INSDAG, Kolkata in his presentation elaborated Mandatory Certification, TMTusages and Good Construction Practices. Entire presentation was made in Hindi for the benefit of local participants.During interaction, various queries of participants were clarified by senior officials. The seminar ended with vote ofthanks proposed by S/Sri P Eswaraiah, RM (East), Gautam Das, Sr. BM (Patna) and his team coordinated effectively forthe success of this seminar.

Workshop for Local Enterprepneurs organisedWith an aim to encourage local entrepreneurs, RINL conducted one day workshop on 11th Dec focusing on the expansionunits and correspondingly to gear up the local industries to meet the enhanced requirement of spares, refractory andconsumable items with close coordination with Works Department of VSP.Sri DS Satry, ED (Maintenance) inaugurated theworkshop. S/Sri SK Gupta, ED(MM) welcomed the gathering. DN Rao, ED(Operations) and other Senior officials of RINLparticipated. Sri PC Padhi, DGM (SMD) proposed vote of thanks. The entrepreneurs of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram,Visakhapatnam, East & West Godavari Districts along with District Industries Department officials actively participated inthe workshop conducted by the Vendor department of Material Management. Around 80 local entrepreneurs of variousproducts like fly ash, refractory, mechanical and electrical items took part in the workshop.

Arogyavanam adds charm to UkkunagaramSri AP Choudhary, Former CMD, RINL inaugurated a unique"Arogyavanam-cum-Medicinal Park" at a glittering function inUkkunagaram on 21st Dec. The Arogyavanam with 50 varieties ofmedicinal plants is developed in a sprawling 5 acres of land on thefoothills of Hill Top Guest House by the Agro Forestry Department within-house talent. Layout design for Arogyavanam has been made insuch a way that it reflects like a human body. RINL has potential to grow as a “Multi Unit Company”Sri AP Choudhary superannuated on 31st December. Sri Choudhary served theSteel sector for more than three decades in various capacities. While sharing hisexperiences in the farewell function, Sri Choudhary said that RINL has great potentialto grow as a multi-unit company in the entire Indian industry and added that RINLmanagement way of working is highly appreciated amongst the Indian Steelindustries both in private and public sectors. While expressing his impressions onSri Choudhary, Sri P Madhusudan, CMD hailed Sri Choudhary as a very strong teamleader and observed that because of his conviction, passion, energy and confidence,RINL completed the expansion of 6.3 mtpa capacity. S/Sri Umesh Chandra, D(O),TK Chand, D(C), YR Reddy, D(P), Mohapatra, D(Proj.), B Siddhartha Kumar, IFS,CVO spoke at length about the contributions of Sri Choudhary for the steelindustry, particularly for RINL's growth and success. Executive Directors, GeneralManagers of RINL participated during the function.

IDEALMS department conceptualised "IDEAL" (Intra-Departmental Employee Activity Log), for logging the daily activities of varioussections in the department, through an electronic module based on Oracle database. The respective Section I/cs or the HoDcan view this report at the end of the day and record their observations/instructions. This will serve as a daily feedbackmechanism and on clearance of the HoD the logged activities of different sections can be viewed by other officers of thedepartment, which will help in improving their decision making in their section and overall functioning in many ways.Moreover, this can be used as an input for various daily/weekly/monthly reports, and can also be customised to individualdepartmental needs. The concept was engineered and implemented with the help of I.T. department in Dec 2011 and issuccessfully working without any problem. The effort was recognised under SPAS.
